Our Story – Welcome to Our STFD State of Mind

Hola! I'm Tim, and I co-own this beachside gem with my wife Chelsea, and her awesome parents, Terry and Betsy. Together, we formed a little family business here in Costa Rica called STFD—which stands for “Slow The Frick Down” (you get the idea 😉).

This place is the embodiment of that mindset. When we first found this villa in Playa Ocotal, it wasn’t supposed to be a rental. It was our escape—a place where we could slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect. Over time, we realized how powerful that feeling was, and we wanted to share it with others.

Playa Ocotal is magic. It’s peaceful, laid-back, and steps away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. The water is warm, the sunsets are unreal, and the vibe is all about unplugging and enjoying the simple moments.

One of our favorite spots? Father Rooster, the legendary beachfront bar and grill is just down the road. It’s where we go for great food, cold drinks, and those unhurried, toes-in-the-sand kind of evenings that remind us why we started STFD in the first place.

We’ve poured a lot of heart into this home—from the lighting and tech (thanks to Tim the electrician), to the cozy interior touches (shoutout to Chelsea’s design magic). But more than anything, it’s a space that’s meant to help you slow things down, whether you’re sipping coffee on the patio or watching the stars after a beach day.

This unit has been thoughtfully updated and personalized to make your stay both comfortable and memorable. Chelsea’s design touch is felt throughout the space, starting with the bedrooms—each featuring a fun, colorful wallpaper accent wall that gives every room its own personality while still feeling relaxed and inviting.

Comfort was a top priority. Both king beds have been upgraded with brand-new mattresses and fresh, high-quality linens to ensure great sleep after long beach days. The living area has also been refreshed with a new sofa bed, making it easy to accommodate additional guests or kids without sacrificing comfort or space.

The entire space has been updated with modern LED lighting, creating a warm, clean atmosphere both day and night. Both TVs are new and equipped with smart technology, making it easy to stream your favorite shows and unwind in the evenings.

For connectivity and peace of mind, the property features a high-performance Netgear Orbi Wi-Fi system with UPS backup, providing strong, reliable internet throughout the home. Exterior security cameras and a Ring security system with a keypad outside the main bedroom door add an extra layer of safety for guests, and the unit includes a private safe for valuables.

Every update was made with intention—blending thoughtful design, modern upgrades, and practical comforts—so you can truly relax, unplug, and enjoy your time in Playa Ocotal.
