Luxury Imerovigli villa in breathtaking setting

Dear Guest, The villa is in total 240 sqm of which some 185 sqm are on the ground floor. In order to move between the three levels, stairs are for natural reasons necessary as in any other large house. The steps are not very many (ca 10 in each staircase) nor particularly steep. Depending on your physical condition, any type of stairs may obviously present a challenge but a potential problem of this nature may easily be avoided by basic organisation of bed rooms. All stairs naturally also have handrails. Please let us know beforehand if any of the guests have any mobility impairment and we will make arrangements to alleviate the issue. In the third bedroom there is a Dyson state-of-the-art cooling unit which can easily be connected if our extensive instructions are read carefully. The light in the ground floor bathroom has been changed since the stay of this guest for more luminar effect. This could easily have been done during their stay if they only had let us know. As always, communication is key to a harmonious stay and we are always available via e-mail or telephone for any type of request or information.

There was indeed an exceptional heat wave (not only in Greece but in large parts of Europe) for a couple of days during the stay of this particular guest. Temperatures reached 42 degrees Celsius which had been unheard of in Santorini for several decades. However, had the guest complied with the special set of instructions we sent them with regards to the heat wave, most of the problems they experienced would have been completely neutralised. Instead of closing all windows and shutters during the daytime, the guests had them wide open for the entirety of the day!! If you close the windows and shutters during the day – and particularly when the AC and fans are on – you keep the cool air inside and the hot air outside!! As the guest did the complete opposite it was not a surprise that they experienced a certain discomfort. Our AC and Dyson units are the most efficient available in the market and the guest also acknowledged via e-mail that the problem had largely been resolved after complying with our instructions. Furthermore, the villa being built in the 1850’s, it has 65 centimetres thick walls and roofs and a ceiling height of 6 metres – all with a purpose to withstand the heat and the cold. The reason we chose this house to be our family home is very much because of the inner and outer climate! The villa faces east and south, which protects you from the humidity and the strong winds. Being at the very highest spot on the Caldera side (300 metres above sea level), you also get the cool summer breezes (the so called “meltemia”) in contradistinction to the cave houses on the cliffside. We actually stayed at the house immediately after the departure of this guest and even though temperatures admittedly had come down to more normal levels by then, we had to use duvet covers during the night! During the day, it’s very pleasant to sit in the sunny garden having complete privacy. We use the terraces in the afternoon when the sun is lower and when you have shade. On the Caldera side, where we also have a house, the sun really beats down on you incessantly and the heat can really be unbearable. On the Caldera side there is no privacy as everybody is on top of each other and you have steps to deal with up and down many times during the day.
