Your apartment is located in district Gripe, where I grew up and always like to pay back a visit. It is a very peaceful and green neighborhood located very close to every important attraction you must visit during your stay. Gripe is one of the districts of the city of Split, located northeast of Diocletian's Palace. The importance of the Gripe area for Split was observed even in the oldest times of the city. Ancient war equipment was found, and in the 17th century, the great Gripe fortress was built by the Venetian administration of the city because of the danger from the Turks. Today, the Croatian Maritime Museum and State Archives are located inside the fortress, and peacocks live around the fortress. With the expansion of Split, Gripe - until then the suburban part with fields and vineyards gradually became part of the city. At the end of the 60s of the 20th century, the Gripe rapidly changed its appearance. Private houses, buildings and roads were being built. Along with Poljud, Gripe is known as a part of the city with a very intense sports life, because many sports facilities are located there. At the beginning of the 1970s, the first indoor sports hall was built for the needs of basketball, i.e. the then Basketball club Jugoplastika, today Basketball club Split. At one time, the playground of the Nada football club was located on Gripe, which was replaced at the end of the 70s by a large sports hall built for the needs of the 8th Mediterranean Games. In addition to the two mentioned, there are also a number of small halls for other indoor sports, as well as a large hall for bocce, a popular local game you might see people playing in the open. In the immediate vicinity there is also a huge business center of the once successful shopping giant Koteks. In the middle - between the halls and PC Koteks there is a nice children's park called "Gripi" with trampolines, swings, little cars for kids etc. that you can see from the terrace of your apartment.
