Situado en el centro, a pocos pasos del corazón de la vieja Charlottetown, nuestra legal triplex de lujo es una antigua casa de tejas tradicional centro-hall (originalmente construida alrededor del año 1880) ubicado en un terreno ajardinado recientemente diseñado profesionalmente sombreada suavemente por un siglo de edad, fresno blanco señorial .

Sustancialmente renovado recientemente y amueblado con muebles de diseño de calidad, nuestra última planta 'Attic Atelier' tiene un apartado 'escondido bajo el alero' encanto escondite que es algo difícil de encontrar en el centro de Charlottetown. Por dentro y por fuera, nuestra aireado, envuelto en ventanas perca planta superior cuenta con su propia entrada privada, lavadero con baño, suelos de madera clara, ajuste beadboard y seis electrodomésticos de calidad.

Esta suite cuenta con dos dormitorios soleadas (una reina, un completo, con, ropa frescos y de calidad) con ventanas que se abren y claraboyas a control remoto que abastecen a cada uno con el beneficio de la fresca brisa del verano de la isla. La sala de estar bien equipada (con televisión de pantalla plana y cómodo sofá ropa extra-largo) se convierte fácilmente para dar cabida a dormir adicional para uno simplemente cerrando las puertas francesas de bolsillo. La sala de estar tiene un par de puertas de vidrio que se abren a una amplia terraza con vista del cielo de estar y barbacoa situada debajo de la copa de un árbol viejo fresno 100 años. Es una percha copa de árbol mágico ideal para observar las estrellas por la noche. La cocina está equipada con electrodomésticos de acero inoxidable de calidad y cuenta con una acogedora banqueta integrada y mesa de comedor de la nave-capitán ronda. Es el lugar perfecto para cocinar, recoger y descansar. Y para los amantes de la indulgencia similar a un spa, nuestro cuatro piezas baño cuenta con una ducha de gran tamaño lluvia, bañera profunda, y sale a un balcón soleada con vistas a los jardines cercanos. Esta suite de bellas proporciones es ideal para aquellos que codician la luz, el aire y el espacio al aire libre.

LOVED this place! Upper class suites, priced right

From the welcoming treats to the attention to detail with decor and all the necessities for a comfortable stay, our family would rate this property more than 5 stars! The beds were super comfy - even the pull-out couch, according to our son :) Having not one, but TWO balconies to use was just awesome! Everything was spotless. We were within walking distance to downtown Charlottetown so sightseeing, dining and drinking were all so convenient! The neighbourhood was very beautiful, with many historic homes and churches everywhere - it was pretty cool to be staying in one of these historic buildings! We had the opportunity to see all three suites in the "Black House", and we would recommend any one of them. Would be great for a larger group to rent the whole building. The friendly property manager was just a phone call away if needed. We ALL want to come back!

Beautiful home with easy access to all that Charlottetown and PEI have to offer

My husband and I along with another couple stayed in the Attic Atelier in "The Black House" for a week in September. We were provided with detailed information in advance of our arrival, and the check-in process was simple. Upon arrival at the home, we were greeted by a lovely note from our hosts, along with some tasty PEI preserves, baked goods and wine. Within minutes we were feeling right at home! The apartment itself is beautiful, comfortable, and extremely clean. There was plenty of room for 4 adults. The kitchen is well-equipped should you wish to cook a meal at home, brew a cup of coffee, or just relax with a glass of wine on the lovely deck. We appreciated having the laundry facilities available to us, and the bathroom was large and spa-like. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spacious. As for the location, it really doesn't get much better than this in Charlottetown. We flew in and did not have a car for the majority of the trip, but were able to easily walk everywhere we needed to go (to the market, the grocery store, the waterfront, and to downtown restaurants and shops.) The neighbourhood is quaint and quiet and on the days we did rent a car we were able to park it at the house with no issues. Thank you James, Steven and April for a wonderful stay. We are already thinking about our next trip to beautiful Charlottetown and hope to be able to visit the Black House again!

Thank you for your kind words Kathy. James and I are delighted you enjoyed our 'Home Away From Home'. While we adore each of our three suites in The Black House, we have a special affection for the Attic Atelier as it was the first apartment we comprehensively renovated for our own use. Originally a warren of rooms with tiny windows, we gutted the space to create the open plan kitchen/diner, the spa-like washroom with its peak-a-boo deck, and the cozy sitting room with pocket doors which we close when one of us stays up late to watch a blockbuster movie, or when we need to convert the extra long sofa into an extra single bed (allowing the suite to then sleep five effortlessly). While installing the new steel roof, insulating the walls and ceiling, and reconditioning the vintage radiators, we replaced all the windows and added remote-controlled skylights in the bedrooms (with blinds) to elevate the air flow and flood the space with light. Along with all new fittings, flooring, and designer furnishings, we also built the three-storey deck tower with French doors on the rear giving this suite its own private sun-dappled alfresco terrace with gas barbecue. We especially adore the kick-up-your-feet 'English seaside' décor of our suite, which gently nods to our past when James and I first met as students in Victoria. Back then James made his home in a wee attic flat in a ramshackle Victorian, and whenever I visited we would squeeze through the dormer window to perch on the fire escape to drink tea and admire the view. While there's no shortage of space - or squeezing required - in The Black House, the insouciant charm of that attic apartment cultivated the foundation of a friendship which has been blooming for over 30 years. How fitting that - decades later - our collective memory of a cherished space from our youth would serve as the inspiration for our Attic Atelier transformation. Blending carefree comforts with a dash of 'tucked under the eaves' magic, our top floor aerie nurtures the spirit of friendship which we hope all our guests enjoy. We'd sincerely love to welcome you again!

Loved the treetop balcony

Impressed by overall attention to detail (i.e. park pass and beach towels provided). Immediate response to minor problem with screen door. We appreciated the items provided in the frig and the coffee fixings. The balcony was very enjoyable and private - a great spot to chill after a day of sightseeing. We'll be recommending this place to others travelling to pei and would definitely stay here again. A grab bar in the tub would be appreciated.

Enjoyable stay!

Within a short walking distance of downtown. Balcony was a nice place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed. The little extras, such as the cookies, wine and cheese were very much appreciated. A/C would have made it perfect!

Wonderful stay!

The attic was perfect for our stay. Comfortable, CLEAN and nicely decorated. James was a pleasure to deal with. Very kind and provided excellent suggestions on where to go/see while visiting PEI. We would absolutely stay at the black house again if we get the chance to return to beautiful PEI.

Beautiful and centrally located

What a delightful home away from home. We were in the ground floor suite, and so additionally enjoyed the use of the garden and patio at the back of the house. The quality of the renovations to the property is superb, everything has been thought of to make one feel welcome, and the home is spotlessly clean. All within an easy walk to the centre of town. April, the property manager, is immediately responsive to any concerns or questions and, being a local, has extensive knowledge of the area. The island itself is absolutely charming, and the Black House suits it perfectly.

Modern amenities with the most peaceful surroundings

This is our second stay in this historic home and we will come again. We stayed in a different suite this time and learned that the other suites are as beautifully done as the top floor. James and his assistant April are amazing to deal with and attempt to be so accomodating of your needs or questions. Best owner weve ever dealt with. Thanks James for all the thoughtful care you provide us from the welcome treats and wonderful art pieces right out to the most welcoming deck where you can look out over the garden and relax after your busy day. Can't wait to return here and to beautiful PEI.

Very well equipped and inviting property

Our first stay here was so wonderful we have already booked again for next year! Our first impression when we arrived was "Wow!" and nothing changed our mind during our stay. We felt right at home with the tastefully decorated furnishings, well equipped kitchen and all the lovely added "touches" (Wine, cheese, Milk/cream in the fridge, beach bag, lovely soaps, etc). This place was spotlessly clean and welcoming. The house is located in an older part of downtown and is within walking distance of everything downtown offers from restaurants to the waterfront boardwalk and historical buildings. This is a great walkers location and even on bad weather days we were happy to just laze around in this space without feeling we lost a vacation day. James and his team are right there if you have any issues or questions. We highly recommend this property owner and his team. All nice folks!!! Thanks so much James and see you next year.

Fall visit to PEI 2015

The Black house is the best airbnb we have stayed in so far for the following reason: Great location, easy to walk all around downtown Charlottetown Very tastefully decorated and immediately felt at home Exceptionally clean and attention to details: BBQ, espresso machine, well stocked kitchen with accessories, fresh flowers, welcome treats, beach towels and hands on contact for additional support!

Perfect PEI Vacation Home

The Black House Attic Atelier is the perfect vacation home for your stay in PEI. The Attic Atelier is beautifully decorated, with custom Island themed touches throughout, making for a wonderful beachy Island feel. The kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms have everything you'll need for your stay and were all extremely clean. Skylights in the bedrooms kept them well ventilated and provided beautiful lighting. The deck was a great, and included a propane grill that was often put to use during our stay. There is plenty of seating areas and nooks to hang out in. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in PEI. It is in walking distance for many restaurants and attractions in Charlottetown, and it's only a short 20 minute drive to some of PEI's most beautiful beaches. It exceeded my expectations on every front!

A Little Oasis

We had a wonderful stay at the "Black House"! James, Steve, and April are very friendly and went out of their way to provide lots of little extras to make our stay more enjoyable. We arrived to a welcome note with some complimentary wine, fresh scones, and more! The kitchen is very well equipped, better than home. The beds are very comfortable and there are electronic skylights to allow extra air flow into the bedrooms. The location is close enough to downtown that you can walk. There were a few party-goers walking down the street yelling late at night which can't be helped but other than that our stay was perfect. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to PEI.

PEI Vacation

We are a city-couple traveling with a toddler and were looking for an apartment-style accommodation with contemporary & fresh decor in Charlottetown. Thank goodness for the Black House! The listing description and pictures are exactly as is. The unit is well-maintained, super clean, private, and so comfortable and enjoyable, we didn't want to leave. It really felt like we were living in PEI, rather than just visiting for a week. The location is excellent, just a few blocks walking distance to downtown waterfront and/or main street for Cow's ice cream and shopping. Attention to detail is impeccable, both in design and hospitality. Upon arrival we were greeted with fresh baked biscuits and local jam on the counter, dimmed lights, fresh flowers, locally made soaps in the bath. We had the wonderful pleasure of meeting James (owner), who suggested some beach itinerary ideas, food shopping, things not to miss, etc that suited our travel goals perfectly. We made breakfast and dinner most days and used the grill on the balcony, stove and oven, all worked perfectly. The unit gets a nice breeze, thanks to the many well-placed windows on all sides and two large skylights. Beds are very comfortable. Great place to stay in PEI, would definitely recommend to a relative/friend.

Thank you, Peter and Donna, for your very kind words! James and I truly appreciate it! One of the aspects I love about The Black House is how comfortable it is. There is an insouciant charm – a sort of domestic bliss – within the property that is intangible yet very present. Just as you described, the more time I spend here, the more I enjoy it as a ‘home away from home’. Last year several members of my family traveled across the globe to join me at The Black House. The seven of us stayed in both The Garden Suite and The Attic Atelier. While we originally intended to dine out the majority of evenings, once we were collectively ensconced in the house we kept gravitating to it like bees to honey. Within short order, if we weren’t renting bikes to cycle the gentle island, or strolling through the Charlottetown art galleries (Dad is a painter), we were consistently gathering around the kitchen island cooking together, playing cards at the table, and sharing family stories lounging on the terrace. It was a genuine pleasure to be in each other’s company and – when we needed some alone time – we’d find respite in our bedrooms for leisurely languid naps. Given some of my family reside in Victoria and Whistler B.C., and others are in Zurich, Switzerland, and I'm from Toronto, Ontario), it was genuinely special to ‘live together leading an everyday life’ in Charlottetown. While it may seem strange to some, The Black House brought us together in a way a hotel simply can’t. And for that I am grateful. You have to stay here!!

From the moment we arrived we felt completely at home. The attic atelier is absolutely beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. James and Steven have thought of everything and left nothing to chance. There were plenty of personal touches that made our stay so wonderful! James welcomed us upon arrival, was very attentive to our needs, and was always ready to answer any of our questions. The Black House is very quiet, you never hear a peep from the other guests! The best part is that it's a 7-10 minute walk to downtown Charlottetown - you're very close to great restaurants, theatre, shopping, parks and the boardwalk. The deck is great for BBQs or a day of lazing around with a good book. We had a wonderful time at the Black House. It is an exceptional space great for a family of 4 or two couples travelling together. There's simply no other place to stay when visiting PEI. We'll definitely be back!

I own Upper Hillsborough with my long-time friend and business associate, Steven. We're both Realtors with Bosley Real Estate Brokerage in Toronto, Ontario. Steven, who operates his urbaneer division, has been with Bosley for many years, and myself, many fewer! We've been fast and fabulous friends since meeting while attending the University of Victoria. I'm originally from Summerland, British Columbia, having moved to Toronto in 1988 to pursue my education and my career as an orchestral musician. In the time since, I've performed with many of Canada's finest ensembles including the Toronto Symphony, the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company, and played music in places as far flung and varied as Charlottetown, Hong Kong, Edinburgh and New York City. Since 1999, I've been lucky enough to call Charlottetown home during the summer months thanks to my long involvement as a musician at the Charlottetown Festival.
