Summary:
Welcome to the Raven - Jax's most elegant boutique hotel. This property has 8x studios, 4x 1 BRs, and 1x 2 BR / 2 BA. Book the entire property for your party while hosting a wedding, corporate retreat, bachelor/bachelorette party, or holiday party! The property includes on-site paid parking, a heated 9-month (Mar-Nov) pool, a secluded courtyard, and stunning interior design. The property is near several wedding/event venues - Karpeles Grand, Brick & Beam, and the Glass Factory.
The Space:
The property's common areas include a heated 9-month (March - November) outdoor pool with chaise lounges, umbrellas, and tables/chairs, with gorgeous stained-glass windows as a backdrop; a courtyard with outdoor couches, a firepit, and an outdoor grilling area. It also includes on-site paid parking directly adjacent to the property.
The property's interior common area includes a stunning "main entry" lobby with a bookshelf and the property's original safe, which was preserved and retained on-site as a memento. We also preserved the mechanical "coffin" elevator, which you can see if you walk up to the 2nd-floor atrium area. There is also a secondary entrance on Beaver St., which is great for guests who want to walk around the area.
The property features 8x studio apartments, 4x 1 BR apartments, and 1x 2 BR / 2 BA apartment. Each one has slightly different features, but all share high ceilings, and most of them have original brick. Several have raftered ceilings and reclaimed features from the property - such as 100+ yr old metal barn doors, "chicken wire glass" windows, and 100+ year old tile. All of our apartments feature kitchenettes, with every apartment featuring a sink, microwave, and a full-sized refrigerator. 12 of the 14 apartments have built-in two-burner cooktops, and 13 of the 14 apartments have dishwashers. All of the apartments have either stacked apartment-sized washer / dryers or combination washer / dryers (3 of the apartments have these). Every apartment features a glass shower door, except for Apt 5, which is our ADA-accessible unit. Every apartment has a table and/or desk, so they are ideal for those wanting to cook/eat/work in their apartment. Every apartment is unique, although there are themes that run through each "Wing" of the property:
Reliquary Wing - Apts 1 & 2 (Sanctuary and Bessie) - this Wing consists of 2x connected (via a private passageway) 1 BR apts. Arguably the most stunning and intimate Wing, this part of the Raven contains the original funeral home sanctuary, which has stained-glass windows in the living room and bedroom of this apartment. Bessie - the adjacent apartment includes gorgeous wallpapered windows that used to open onto the hearse parking area (and, before this was built, onto the structure's exterior). This apartment includes a custom-built "California King" bed and is aviation-inspired, as it was designed in honor of Bessie Coleman, whose body was prepared at this property following her traffic crash in Jacksonville on April 30th, 1926.
The Blues Wing - Apts 3, 4, 5, & 6 (Billie, Ella, Ray, and Ma Rainey) - this Wing consists of 4x studio apts whose entrances face each other in a common atrium. This Wing hearkens back to LaVilla's heyday in the early 20th century and is named after Jazz / Blues legends who played or even lived in the neighborhood (like Ray Charles, who lived a block to the south on Church St). They are bright and beautiful with original brick / concrete block walls, and two of them have repaired/refurbished windows. This Wing also features our ADA accessible unit - Apartment 5.
Valhalla Wing - Apts 8, 9, 10, 11 (Thought, Memory, Ivy, Nocturnus) - this Wing consists of 2x studio apts and 2x 1 BR apts whose entrances face each other in a common atrium. This Wing is our most ethereal part of the Raven, featuring Scandinavian design, coupled with high, raftered ceilings and original industrial-style windows. Thought and Memory each have sleeper sofas in the common areas as well. Nocturnus may be our most stunning bathroom in the property, with wraparound windows with an amazing view of the rising mid and high-rise apartments at our neighbor, Pearl Square. Ivy is also a guest favorite, with dark green and brown hues. This is named after the ivy found growing through a broken (since repaired) window into this apartment when we purchased the building in 2021.
Decadence Wing - Apts 12, 13, 14 (Nephthys, O Fortuna, LaVilla) - this Wing consists of 2x studio apts and 1x 2R / 2 BA apt whose entrances face each other in a common atrium. This Wing is our most vibrant, elegant, and lively part of the Raven, featuring brash gold and deep black hues in LaVilla, original tilework in Nephythys (and cats!), and O Fortuna, as well as elegant, high-end design throughout all 3 apts. O Fortuna is also our "honeymoon suite" with a stunning bathroom in the primary bedroom featuring dual showerheads and a lavish king-sized bed.
The outdoor area is curated with a heated outdoor pool, a courtyard, and paid on-site parking. The outdoor pool area features chaise lounges, umbrellas, and tables with chairs - perfect for enjoying a snack while taking a dip.
The courtyard features an outdoor kitchen with a natural-gas-powered grill, a refrigerator, and a food preparation area. It also features a natural-gas-powered fire pit as well.
The paid parking lot has room for fourteen cars, including one ADA-accessible space. We have a motorized gate at the entrance to the parking area. Please note each lane into / out of the parking lot is 10 ft wide. Oversized trucks, vans, and motor homes will not be able to enter/exit the parking lot because of this width restriction.
Paid parking in our gated parking area is available on a first come / first served basis. As a result, we recommend making a parking reservation as soon as possible in order to guarantee a spot for the duration of your stay. A guest's first car costs $15/day. A guest's second car costs $30 / day. If a guest brings a third car, it costs $45 / day. We are not able to accommodate more than three cars for any reservation / single apartment.
We provide a unique 4 digit code which opens the gate to the parking area, the door to your apartment, and the Beaver St door (secondary entrance - the primary entrance is from the parking lot). We provide all guests with a common code which opens the "Raven Gate" (accessible from the parking area) and the "Blue Door" (the entrance to the building's 1st floor atrium).
We have separate codes for our pedestrian gate which opens onto Beaver St from the parking lot and the gates to the courtyard and pool deck.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to their apartments, all interior common areas, and the pool area from sunrise to sunset. We feature internet-connected smart locks at every common door and for the gates in the courtyard / pool area for added security. We have a team member on site during high occupancy periods and have a team member stop by every night to ensure the property is secure. On-site paid parking.
The Neighborhood:
This beautiful property is located in the up and coming LaVilla neighborhood within downtown Jacksonville. At the turn of the 20th century this area was a thriving mecca for African American jazz musicians, on par with New Orleans and Harlem. Famous 20th century musicians such as Ray Charles (who lived less than a quarter of a mile southwest of the property on Church St), Ma Rainey, the “mother of the blues,” often performed in LaVilla, as did “Jelly Roll” Morton, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others! The city of Jacksonville is building out a "LaVilla Heritage Trail" with signs all over the area (including on the southwest corner of our off street parking lot) bringing to life the area's storied history.
Nearby neighborhoods include historic Springfield (a few blocks to the north), Brooklyn (a mile to the southwest), historic San Marco (2-3 miles to the south - over the Main St bridge), and historic Riverside/5 Points (less than 2 miles to the southwest). All of these areas teem with local restaurants, boutiques, and bars. The core area of downtown Jacksonville and the stadium district are 1-2 miles to the east and walkable during stadium events to include Jacksonville Jaguars games, the Gator Bowl, the Florida-Georgia football game as well as concerts at Daily's Place.
The Prime Osborn convention center is a mile to the southwest and Everbank Stadium is 1.5 miles to the east.

-Karpeles Grand (10k+ sq ft) is half a mile to the northeast - perfect for 100-200 guest weddings / events.
-Brick & Bream (2.3k sq ft) is three quarters of a mile to the northeast - ideal for ~50 guest weddings / events.
-The Glass Factory (16k sq ft) is a mile to the west - perfect for 200+ guest weddings / events.
Getting Around:
While you can walk around downtown Jacksonville on foot, it is best to have a car or use a ride-sharing app (such as Uber or Lyft) to go from the less densely populated portion of downtown - LaVilla - to the other parts of downtown.
Interaction with Guests:
We have a team member on site during high occupancy period and our office is a few blocks to the north in Springfield. If you need something during the week (9am - 4pm; Mon-Fri) we can typically have someone assist you in an hour or two. Most weekends we will have someone on site during out standard check-in/check-out periods to assist, if needed.
We do have a team members who stops by the property overnight to ensure that the common areas are secure.
