Perfect getaway

The Honeymoon Suite was wonderful. The location is perfect: 10 minutes away from Cruz Bay and mere minutes from wonderful beaches, surrounded by lush vegetation and birds and tree frogs. Definitely a place to return to.

Excellent stay

The Honeymoon suite was very comfortable. The views are fantastic! We had a private chef come in and he found the kitchen to be adequate to provide the service. Tommy was an exceptional point of contact and helped out with any questions or concerns we had in a prompt manner. Richard the owner was very communicative as well. Would definitely again.

Our stay at the Gate House was perfection. The view was to die for. The location was perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all. Richard was a wonderful host. We’ve travelled all around the Caribbean, and this instantly became our favorite place.

What a view!

The Gatehouse Honeymoon property was perfect for my husband and I. The view was stunning from the deck and bedroom. The property manager was super friendly and accommodating to our needs. The location was perfect , located between Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay making it easy to get to the beach for the day. We didn't use the bedroom air conditioning because there was a lovely breeze every night.

Couldn’t have picked a better venue for my first stay on St John. Pictures are accurate - the views are amazing from the villa. Very clean. Communication was very effective during the stay. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful views but . . .

We were pleased with the excellent location, beautiful views from the spacious veranda and lovely private beach. The property manager and owner were very responsive, and we appreciated being met at the ferry. However, during a hard rain the first night, we had puddles in the bedroom and bathroom and the bathroom counter was soaked. Per the owner, this can happen occasionally with heavy rains, but we were not warned ahead of time. In addition, the indoor space would benefit from a refresh, including better/more inviting lighting and patching/painting a wall with cracks in the bedroom.

Beautiful

Peter Bay is a great location, and the Gatehouse is very nice for two people. My only suggestions would be for a map from Cruz Bay to the Peter Bay gate entrance, and for a resort map, particularly the path to the beach. It is a steep walk and not being sure we were headed the right way was a bit concerning on day one. Other than that, absolutely perfect location and accommodations. We will be back!

Great stay in Peter Bay

If you want a hilltop stay on St. John with incredible views and top notch accommodations then this is a great choice. Its pretty easy to find, only about 15 min from town and within a very short drive of a number of exquisite Caribbean beaches. The place itself is nicely furnished, has a great deck, serviceable, well stocked kitchen, beautiful bathroom, the bed is comfortable and parking is straightforward. It is expensive so make sure that walking to the beach is not a big factor for you, because in this place you are paying for a great view from high above the beach. The beach at Peter Bay is best reached by driving downhill to get as close as you as you can get and then there is a walk of 5 min or so on a pretty beat up path. We instead mostly opted to drive the 2 min to Trunk Bay as our go to beach. Yes its got an entry fee but it is flat out gorgeous, not crowded when we were there in October, and the snorkeling is pretty good as well.

WOW that VIEW!!!

The gatehouse is a unique and stunning property located in one of the best locations on St John (in our opinion). The spectacular views from the balcony and windows just can’t be emphasized enough. They are incredible and will not disappoint. If peace and tranquility is your goal, sipping coffee in the morning or cocktails in the evening on the balcony while gazing at the azure blue sea and the green of the mountain backdrop all while being serenaded by the birds and frogs and rustling leaves of the trees…..this is the place for you. There are no blinds or curtains on the 7 beautiful arched mahogany and glass windows and doors in the bedroom, and as the sun rises each morning it peaks over Tortola, and into your windows and awakens you to start your day! The sunrises are outstanding (but no sleeping in, lol).The private beach is amazing, and truly private… no one else was there! But you are so close (only minutes) to several other gorgeous public beaches, Trunk, Hawksnest, Maho and Cinnamon. Everything we needed was supplied, including washer/dryer, snorkeling equipment, and beach chairs to borrow. Tommy was a sheer delight to meet and a wealth of knowledge on the island. He’s a gem of a guy! The only thing we saw that could be improved upon is some refreshing of some of the decor and furnishings as a few things getting a little worn, but that comes with age and use. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the gatehouse and look forward to staying here again and again!

Peter Bay Gatehouse is Paradise

This was our first trip to St. John for our honeymoon and our stay was amazing. The listing will entice you, but the real thing is breathtaking and beyond our expectations. The Honeymoon Suite is well equipped, spacious, and you’ll be continuously mesmerized by the view of Peter Bay, Cinnamon Bay beach, and Maho Bay beach from your large, private porch. Tommy was a wonderful host and made everything so much easier when we arrived. He helped with orienting us to the property, but also provided helpful information on navigating our way around. The location is very private, but not far from any of the island you want to explore. We would recommend renting a jeep/car if staying here for convenience of getting around anytime you want, plus it’s fun to drive on the left side of the road. We would love to come back someday to celebrate an anniversary or just a getaway. Thank you Richard and Tommy for making our honeymoon incredible.

Great week on St John

My wife and I visit St John every year and this is by far the best property we have stayed at. Check in was smooth and welcoming and the property was simply amazing. Close to town and very close to our two favorite beaches - Trunk Bay and Maho. We will definitely be returning here in the future!

Hi Richard, We loved the first floor of the Gate House! The accommodations, the view, and the walk to the private beach. Not to mention that we were in a gated community that was lovely,and it was quiet. We drove around the island and determined that this was the best place on the island to be. Gatehouse Review

Our third trip to St. John. All three times my wife and I stayed at the gatehouse. Previous two trips we stayed in the upper unit. This most recent visit, my wife and I stayed in the lower unit and another couple in the upper. Very, very elegant house with spectacular views. Enjoyed the views, the tub, the décor. Walked down to Peter Bay for some pretty good snorkeling. Just a nice, well appointed house to get away from it all in comfort and privacy. Previous visits we were met on-time and escorted to the Gatehouse with a nice vehicle and small welcoming food/snack basket. This trip, there was a much more casual greeting with none of the niceties of previous visits. Our host that met us was not there when we arrived (about 10-minutes late). We also had to call several times and were left with a bit of uncertainty that someone was expecting us and would show up to meet us. Our comments for improvement would be to bring the previous high level of meeting and welcoming back again. Also, consider installing some mosquito zappers in the unit. Other than that, just fantastic.
