Good location but could use a makeover

The furniture would benefit from a makeover with most chairs having damaged backs, the shower lever missing it's cover.The view is mostly onto the back of other apartments. It's all functional but and we had a lovely time but for the price tag I would have expected a higher standard of maintenance.

Reviewer Comments: the linens/towels need to be updated. there was no pillow for the sofa bed, had to take one from the bedroom. The bath tub drain was plugged on day one , I had to use the plunger to unplug it. The pots/pans were very poor quality and sizes, I almost bought a better frying pan for the unit . Also, I had to repair the toaster, It was bent and didn't pop the toast up. The kitchen table was not wiped down, you could see and feel sticky areas, possibly juice of some sorts. The dishes had a white film on them, so we washed the dished before we used them. Location was good, check-in was easy.

Not An Easy Stay With Young Kids

We'll start with the good: The unit is on a nicer resort that has multiple pools, games, sports activities and a restaurant on site. There are fun activities organized for kids (bingo, ice cream, etc.) that went over well. Additionally, it's near a kid-friendly beach. Now for the bad: The unit lacked A/C, which wasn't mentioned on the listing. Only after we checked in did we learn about this. My parents own a unit in the property and were under the impression every unit had A/C. We ended up visiting Costco to buy two window units to use during our stay. Additional issues: - The host asked us to wash the sheets and towels before leaving but neglected to leave us detergent to do so. We had to buy our own detergent to accommodate their requirement. While that's not ideal we can accept having to buy detergent. The real issue is whether previous guests chose NOT to buy detergent, effectively "washing" the sheets in just water and then having the host present those as "clean" for us to use. Without asking the previous guests, there's no way to know for sure. - The "clean" dish ware in the cabinets had dead flies in a bowl and a coffee mug. - The bathroom soap dispenser had been watered down to make the hand soap last longer instead of being replaced. We had a challenging stay with our family of four, two of which were young children who couldn't get comfortable with the lack of A/C in the unit and being in the constant heat and humidity. Overall, we would not stay here again.

The blinds are rusted in place, the bathroom window screen is broken and the bath tub is treacherous to get in and out of. There were no directions on how to access the pool or amenities in the binder, but the kind fills at the check in desk helped out. But even with the above issues we would stay there again.

We gave it the benefit of the doubt after reading some reviews. Let me just start off with it smelled horrible even with all the window they left open for us. Was not the cleanest. No AC. Furniture and appliance’s are very outdated.Felt like no privacy.Blinds broken all over the condo. In the bedroom, I never changed since people can see inside. Don’t let me get started with the bathroom, blinds would not close in the shower neighbors from the top could see inside while showering had my spouse hold a towel up while I showered. Bathtub is almost impossible to get in and out of.Carpet is very dirty. Chairs cabinet broken. We were notified that during our stay a staff member will show up to fix a few thing I did mention a few things were broken we came back to blinds still not working kept falling apart. Washer not working when arrived.Only thing that got fix during our stay. They came in about 3 time to fix the washer inconvenient as we are getting dressed.We stayed for 7 days the condo was the worst part of our family vacation. Then we got pest control come in as we are getting ready to head out every morning it was something this is our 3 day they sprayed some pest chemical around the condo he sprayed our shoes by the door too and the carpet. Gross and very unprofessional of the person so I cleaned our shoes after he left, he could of asked us to move our belongings. Never used the dining, living, patio area after seeing the chemicals being sprayed our 3 day stay. We did not even stay in this place much because of how bad it was. We would leave right away as soon as we woke up and come back late at night. We were not comfortable at all. Bought air freshener-but that smell just wouldn’t go away. Like I said NO PRIVACY. People were just in and out. These things should of been handled before we arrived not during our stay.If I could share pictures and videos I would.

That being said, this condo needs a total renovation. It seems to be in original condition from when it was built, maybe the 70's.1. Oven thermostat seems to be broken and could not regulate baking. Burnt everything I tried to cook in it.2. Same with old stove. Cannot tell temp on handles and burnt food.3. Only one usable small skillet. the others burnt everything no matter how low I tried to turn the burners.4. The first night we were there, the sleeper sofa collapsed and we slept on the floor the entire week as our daughters had the bedroom.5. Washing machine shakes the entire condo when it spins, scaring us half to death.6. Dishwasher would not release soap so dishes had to be hand washed.7. Dishwasher would run non-stop unless you turned it off.8. Lanai fan is not working.9. Blinds are so old they cannot be opened or closed without fear they will disintegrate.

It's not what it appears in pictures

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The pictures we viewed of the resort and the condo do not give the full picture. First of all, it is difficult to find the condo, as we arrived after dark and Google maps took us to the resort but not the condo. No biggie, overall. No restaurants in area were open after 9PM. Just something to be aware of. We get inside, and there is a note on the fridge stating the fridge doesn't work. EEEK! Well, we explored further and there is a fridge downstairs in the dining room that works. The microwave is shoved into a cubby above the oven that was possibly a built in microwave at one time. We discovered the oven burns all the food within 5 minutes. The washer makes a horrible noise on the spin cycle, like it's unbalanced regardless of what is in it. The fold out sofa bed, is not comfortable, and the legs have to be manually moved to support the bed. The blinds in the bedroom and the lanai were not fully functional There was trash (other parties boarding passes) behind the dresser, which makes we wonder how cleaning was done. We did report the issues to the management, who stated they would send someone to look at the washer, and explained that they were having trouble updating or replacing items, and this location was on a "delayed maintenance schedule". Just beware of what you were getting, as the management stated to me you booked "on the cheap". That said, Hawaii was great! We booked a submarine trip, we went to the volcano park, we ziplined near Hilo, and visited an Octopus farm....all great adventures. The Indian food at Kamana kitchen was great. Burger at Island ona loa grill were fabulous. Good luck and have fun.

Hidden Gem In Kona

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Don’t let the pics scare you off, this property is a fantastic value. It’s very spacious and great for a small family. The pics are dark and grimy and do not do this place justice. The unit is dated but really that’s part of the charm. It’s straight out of the 70s but everything is in good condition and most importantly CLEAN! No dirt or dust bunnies (I checked). The decor is tropical and Hawaiian and very retro but well done, again all part of the charm. It has all the comforts of home - fully stocked and functional kitchen, basic pantry cooking items, washer and dryer, good linens, comfy bed and pillows etc. Nice extras include beach chairs and towels, boom box w cassette tapes, etc. Location is great, about 25 mins from the airport and 15 mins to downtown Kona. There are nice beaches within 5 mins drive. The resort itself is nice and quiet w two pools, a restaurant (great wings and fries) and grills. There is a shopping center right across the street as well. There is no AC, which is usually a deal breaker for me but there are multiple ceilings fans and standing fans and with the windows and doors open, it’s comfortable during the day and cool at night (at least during our visit in July). Only thing I would change would be the couch. It wasn’t super comfy.We paid $140 a night and it was worth every Penny, a great bang for your buck. Very comfy, spacious and clean. Wayne is the property manager and he was very kind and responsive. Great communication from booking to check out. I am very hard to please and I literally had no complaints! It was a great vacation, largely in part to great accommodations.

We made family memories that will last a life time

It is a beautiful spacious unit in a quite resort. The only downfall was no air conditioning. Which resulted in our having to keep all windows & doors open at all times for relief from the hot humid climate. This is something to consider especially with small children. The fold out bed could use a new mattress as the children complained that they could feel the bars in their backs..... but other than that it was very clean and quiet... we would recommend this rental

Reviewer Comments: This condo is perfectly located at the top of the complex to give easy access to the quiet pool, the tennis courts and the smaller fitness room. Also it is very easy to walk to several beaches as well as the nearby shopping center. After the first week we took our rental car back as everything we needed was so close.The condo is just as it is pictured, probably in need of some updates, but Im sure that would only increase the rental costs, so it is acceptable.We appreciated the little extras, like laundry soap, coffee filters, books and candles for the lanai.The property manager was very understanding when we needed to cut our vacation short due to the outbreak of the novel Covid-19 virus, and worked with us to minimize our financial loss.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My wife, Vivian, and I spent a week at this unit. We had a very nice time. The weather was terrific and the unit was clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed the spa and loafing on the lanai. The lanai furniture was really comfortable.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Condo was large and very comfortable. Needs a little updating as it was pretty dated but that was part of its charm. The bathroom was the main room that needs renovating especially the tub/shower combo as it was hard to access. The condo is in a great location and has great amenities near by. We spent 3 weeks there and would definitely rent again.
