Bienvenido a Purgatory Point Lodge, nuestra magnífica casa en las montañas.

Esta casa ofrece una ubicación excepcional y excepcional para su refugio de montaña con las vistas más extraordinarias del lago Electra, los acantilados de Hermosa y todo el valle de Animas. Relájese en la elegancia rústica mientras el sonido de una cascada precipitada, pinos susurrantes y colibríes llenan el aire. Explore el aire libre desde su terraza trasera o camine hacia el norte a lo largo del arroyo hasta el lago Columbine y hacia el sur hasta el lago Electra. Los peces de las orillas de Cascade Creek o nuestro hermoso lago Columbine, ambos no requieren permisos y sí, ¡tienen peces!

Disfrute viendo las puestas de sol sobre los espectaculares acantilados de Hermosa mientras se relaja en la bañera de hidromasaje privada o mientras disfruta de un cóctel escuchando la cascada desde la terraza trasera. Si tiene suerte, puede ver alces, ciervos, pavos salvajes, codornices, ratas almizcleras, castores, mapaches y otras criaturas lindas. Se han reportado avistamientos de alces cerca, pero aún no desde la cubierta trasera.

Acomódese junto al fuego en la estufa de leña en la espaciosa sala de estar principal mientras mira la televisión de pantalla plana o transmite películas a través de Internet WiFi. Los niños estarán contentos con su propio centro de TV y juegos en la sala de juegos / dormitorio. Nuestra casa puede dormir cómodamente hasta 10 personas con la siguiente configuración de cama:

Spent the holiday with several adults and some children. House was fantastic, even had a Christmas tree setup for us in the living room. Had everything we needed and view was phenomenal. Had great contact with host.

Beautiful view!

The view at this place was amazing and we spent hours on the back porch and hot tub enjoying it. Eric the owner was super helpful and gave us some hiking recommendations. The house was large and comfy and our two families of four loved that there were two master bedrooms and plenty of space for everyone!

Amazing Views!

We spent a lot of time on the back deck. In addition to the amazing view, they have a hummingbird feeder so we got to enjoy watching more hummingbirds than I have ever seen! We really enjoyed the house. House does need some minor maintenance done.

Spectacular views from a great house!

Beautiful well-equipped house less than ten minutes from Purgatory even when it's been snowing for a week. Very easy drive from the Durango airport. If you're staying a few days try out the Nugget across the street. Only drawback is it is 30/45 minute drive to the main town so make sure and shop for a few days. But the views alone are worth it.

Beautiful, spacious mountain get away

Dwelling as advertised, but pictures just don't do the view justice. Directions/instructions provided via VRBO site and onsite were prepared and laid out well- thank you! The location is close enough to town/service stations for goods, but off the beaten path/secluded enough to really enjoy fresh air/nature (and the stars are SO much brighter here!) We loved the bonus hummingbird visitors.

Beautiful cabin!

Beautiful clean and large cabin with plenty of space! Tucked away nicely with amazing views and the hummingbird visitors were amazing to watch out the big window! We enjoyed the fireplace and all the space to relax and conversate with each other. The beds were comfortable and master bathroom was plenty large to get ready for the day. The drive from the highway was not too long and we enjoyed all the critters we saw along the way. Would highly recommend and we would visit again if in the area without a second thought!

We couldn't have been more taken aback by the view when we walked up. The home is fully stocked with all comforts, the view is second to none, the hummingbirds are beautiful, and the owners are very kind, attentive and responsive. Breathtaking view, excellent property

View of the mountain is picturesque. Excellent property, well equipped, spacious room and bedrooms, game room, new hot tub to relax after day on the slopes. Owner's were so helpful and caring, we could not have found a better property. We do a lot of traveling, and this property rates at the top of our experiences. If staying in the winter, all-wheel drive vehicle and snow chains are needed, chains can be rented from an individual in the neighborhood who is overly helpful.

Just amazing

The pictures of the rental don’t do it justice, especially the view from the back patio. I can’t begin to describe how incredible it really is. The owners are just amazing as we had a potential issue but it turned out to be nothing but they were quick to respond and even came to the house. We enjoyed their company and had breakfast! We will definitely stay here in the summer to enjoy the Lake community but plan on returning for the winter as well. This was just an incredible house and you won’t regret staying here.

Outstanding Views and Perfect Getaway

My family (7 adults, 1 child, 1 baby, & 1 dog) stayed here for almost a week, and it was everything we wanted in mountain vacation. The stunning views can be viewed pretty much throughout the house which is amazing. We spent a majority of our time on the deck enjoying our meals, relaxing in the hot tub, and star gazing. Communication with Micaela was excellent and thorough. We had everything we needed to make majority of our meals at the house. I will note the game room with one of the fold out couches/bed is open the majority of the house. I only note this in case you have members of your party that would like some more privacy. Highly recommend staying here, and we would definitely come back!

Location - Private - Views!

This was the most beautiful, private mountain home with views that will make you want to stay forever. We watched storms roll in, eagles and hawks flying above us, and then star-gazed all night. We used a free app called SkyView which helped us all to become amateur astonomers! We didn't just stare out of the windows all day....we took advantage of the awesome hiking trails close by and we fished along the creek and in the lake. Purgatory Ski Resort is right across the highway so we rode the Alpine Slide, Bungee Jump, and rode the mechanical bull. We had the best pizza at the Old Schoolhouse which is only 10 minutes from the cabin and is probably the best pizza any of us have ever eaten. There are other wonderful restaurants just minutes away so you never feel like you are far from town. We are definitely coming back and staying in this wonderful home and highly recommend it to anyone who loves the mountains.

Wonderful family home

This home was terrific for our family of 8. The range of ages was 76 years to 15 years. I would have been a bit nervous if my 8 year old grandson had been with us as the terrain in front which has an incredible view was steep and very “natural”. We enjoyed the remote location but be aware you are 40 minutes from Durango even though it is only 25 miles. The two disappointments were that there is no easy way to hike to the waterfall listed in the description of the house, and the fishing wasn’t as easily accessed from the house as described. This is no fault of the owners it is more of an issue with changes in the regulations due to years of drought affecting the nearby lakes and the rough terrain to hike to stream nearest house. The true bonus about this property was the beautiful and spacious home away from all the city lights and noise. The ski resort is very close and has great activities for the young adults. Be sure you bring mosquito spray in the summer! Communication with the owners was pretty quick with lots of information about nearby activities.

Host not accommodating and house extremely dirty when we arrived. Awful experience.

When we arrived, no one had been there to clean the house. There were sheets and towels left in the washer and on the floor of the laundry room. The house was very dirty. Dead flies on the floor and in the tub. The toilets were disgusting. The hot tub smelled like fish and was murky. The previous guests had turned off the heat in the master bedroom and so it was 45 degrees in there. The internet didn't work and while we were there the rest of the heat in the house stopped working. We called the owner and told them the situation and because of all the issues if we could pay to stay one night since we drove 14 hours to get there and it was 4 pm and we couldn't find anywhere else to stay with such a short time and we had to find a place that would take 5 people and pets. The owners were adamant that we couldn't stay there. We literally had no where else to go. They didn't care and said we had to leave. The owner told us after we arrived, that they were having a hard time getting the cleaning crew in because of a snow storm, but other houses in that area didn't have an issue. We've stayed at a lot of VRBOs and never had an experience like this one. We ended up finding a VRBO right down the street from this house, but we couldn't stay there till the next day. Micaela had a lot of excuses of why it was all like that, but we stayed in another VRBO right down the street and they had no issues with cleaning crews or anything. Very disappointed and super stressful experience for our family vacation with small kids.

We feel very sorry you seemed to have had such a miserable time in this winter paradise. Of course, the reason powder skiing is so great here is because snowstorms happen. And when they do the driving can become dangerous, so we ask our cleaners not to come up if they don’t feel safe. Our cleaner had made an initial trip and began cleaning for your visit but was not able to finish, and a major snowstorm prevented her from returning before you arrived. As you recall from our phone call that night, she was on her way to finish up the cleaning that evening right behind you. But you went into attack mode, verbally abusing me! Even after your reservation was cancelled and your money reimbursed, you continued to berate me to allow you to stay in our home free of charge. My husband and I no longer felt comfortable having you stay in our home if you were not satisfied with it. But because it was our decision to have the cleaner not drive back there until the roads were safe, we still wanted to help you. We immediately began to help you find another suitable place for your family. Fortunately, we found another VRBO rental just down the road from us, but it was not available until the next day. So, to bridge the gap, we asked another nearby neighbor to allow you to stay in his vacation home while he stayed the night in our home, all at no cost to you. We really hoped that our conversation that night and our effort in helping you find other suitable accommodation would have helped, but based on your exaggerated and scathing review, nothing we did for you was appreciated. Your claims that our hot tub was dirty, and that the internet was not working were false. Our hot tub is always professionally maintained, and our neighbor told me the tub was pristine, while using the internet… We realize that your anger was probably due to the frustration of driving which may have frayed your nerves by the time you arrived to find that our home was not completely ready for you. Yet, simply based on over fifty 5-Star reviews our home has received in the past five years and lovely notes written in our guest book, your comments may say more about you than it does about our beautiful vacation home!

MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME

What an extraordinary vacation! We celebrated Christmas and two birthdays at this incredible mountain home during a most unimaginable week long blizzard! The location of this home could not have been any more perfect for those who wanted to ski (2 1/2 mi), play in the snow or enjoy the view from the comfort of the indoors. It is a million dollar view and pictures simply don’t do it justice! The wall of windows was incredible. The home stayed nice, warm & very cozy even with 2-3 ft. of snow outside. The heated tile was such a treat! We loved the deck w/ covered hot tub. It was the perfect way to relax after skiing & playing in the snow and held six of us comfortably. There was abundant storage for our winter gear and the two masters were very spacious w/ large bathrooms. The 3rd bedroom/bath w/ bunks & futon worked out fine for our young adults. Our group of 7 didn’t even need the sofa sleepers in the loft & LR. We cooked all our meals since driving the snowy roads made it a bit more difficult than we wanted to deal with. The kitchen had everything we needed to make large meals happen. JUST NOTE: When the hosts say chains are required in winter, they’re NOT KIDDING. And do yourself (and the locals) a favor & practice putting the chains on before you have to use them! With that said, we had the KINDEST help from locals upon arrival & from Michaela & Eric (our hosts) upon departure. We had the equipment but definitely not the experience to install it. While the highway stayed easily drivable, the mountain road required AWD/4WD/chains or (best case scenario) a combination. We can’t thank Michaela & Eric enough for their incredible hospitality. We left knowing we had made new friends & can’t wait to return this summer for fishing & hiking!

Mountain Paradise

We loved every minute of our stay! The house is roomy and well equipped with everything you need. The bunk bed in the 3rd bedroom is better for young kids but our 31 year old (single) son stayed in there with no complaints. The owner, Micaela, was very responsive to questions. The view will start and end your day with a smile! The mountains are good for the soul! We stayed 2 weeks and would have loved to stay another 2 weeks! According to Tim (the neighborhood patrol! 😊) renters can not fish in Lake Columbine…but there are plenty of other fishing lakes close by…and that may just be Tim’s rule because he doesn’t want people fishing in “his” lake. You will not be disappointed in the house! It is fabulous!

View could not be beat and we had a blast watching both the hummingbirds and ground squirrels. Home was fabulous.

INCREDIBLE VIEWS!!

This property delivered in most areas for mountain beauty! The accommodations were very nicely furnished. Could be a little cleaner - trash under beds on arrival. Fourth bedroom should be described as a 'loft' - not a bedroom as it has no bathroom or doors. Overall, a beautiful stay!

Beautiful facility. Some leftover trash under the beds. Some minor plumbing issues, resolved quickly by the manager. Several burnt out light bulbs. Outdoor deck in poor shape with warped and splintered boards. Very happy overall and would return.

My family and four dogs currently reside in Houston, Texas. My husband grew up in Denver, Colorado and I am from El Paso, Texas. He enjoys rubbing in the fact that he grew up in the heart of the Colorado Rockies whereas I only got the “tail-end” of them. Nevertheless, we both share a common bond which is a deep love and appreciation for our majestic Rockies and are thankful for the wonderful year-round activities they offer. We purchased this home in 2009 with the intention of one day retiring from the rat race and living year round in Durango.

The town of Durango is the probably the most quaint and unpretentious resort town in Colorado. There is such a down-home style and innocence that sometimes I feel that the town is held in a 1950s time warp! The people are neighborly and life seems so simple and uncomplicated. We wanted our home to be close to Durango for its shopping, restaurants, medical facilities and of course charm; however, we also wanted to live in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Never did we dream of finding a home which had such jaw-dropping views as this. This location offered us everything we dreamed of and much, much more.

We chose this home because of the proximity to the ski resort (2 miles), the beautiful wooded two acre lot which borders national forest, the dramatic views of the Hermosa Cliffs, Electra Lake and the entire Animas Valley. You will not hear traffic noise, only the sound of the Cascade Creek waterfall, the hummingbirds, the aspen trees and pine needles rustling in the wind. During the day the views from every window are spectacular. At night, you will feel as if you are in a planetarium with stars so bright. At any time of the day, any season of the year, the comfort and beauty of this home will make you want to stay forever....and come back year after year. We would love nothing more than you to consider our home as yours. Mi Casa es Su Casa!
