Welcome to Hale Kailani, the 'Sea and Sky House', an oceanfront cottage retreat that will take you back to old Hawaii. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, amazing sunrises, occasional lightning storms, turtles, spinner dolphins and seasonal humpback whales right off the back lanai. Wake up to the sound of crashing waves. Located just south of Hilo on the eastside of the Island of Hawaii (Big Island). Hale Kailani is situated on a 1/2-acre lot in the rural subdivision of Hawaiian Paradise Park. This cozy and clean oceanfront home feels secluded but is within close proximity to shopping, dining and other 'must do' activities. This house features 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main level, a large loft with a bathroom upstairs and a good-sized lanai looking out at the ocean with an outdoor dining set, BBQ and additional seating.

The house and grounds were very nice. We did not receive the check-in information in our initial email and had the contact them directly for door/lock information. Then the hot water heater had issues which caused us to have no hot water a couple of times. Otherwise very good experience.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful oceanfront home! The location is spectacular—we loved falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs and the lively chirping of the Coqui frogs. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and we especially appreciated the beach towels, cooler for our day trips, and the coffee pot (filters included!).Check-in was a breeze, and the internet and cable worked perfectly—it was fun to catch the local news. The customer service was excellent and very communicative. My only minor suggestion for improvement would be to streamline the communication; between the house manager, property manager, and VRBO, there were quite a few separate text and email strings. It would be even better if everything was unified through the app. Overall, a great experience and we would stay again!

Aloha! Welcome to our little oceanfront cliff house. Thank you choosing to stay with us, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. David and I were both raised on the island of Oahu and started our family there. In the mid 90's we packed up and moved to Washington State to attend college. We ended up staying in Washington to pursue our careers. There is just no place like Hawaii, we visit as much as we can and are so happy that we are finally able to have a little home of our own right on the water. The atmosphere is so relaxing-it truly is our sanctuary. There are things here that are unique to this island such as active lava flows and Coqui frogs that are fun to experience. I suspect we will retire here someday but for now we visit 3 to 4 times a year and as a result are able to share our home with you.

We love the eastside of the island - its so green and a bit more rural than the westside. All of the Big Island has something to offer but this area feels like home.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

This house is as close to the ocean as a home in this area can be, leaving us a huge front yard that appears very park like from Paradise Ala Kai Drive. We are always adding to the planting areas, including many native plants that we hope to one day label to create a botanical garden experience. Our home feels like old Hawaii driving down a lava rock wall lined driveway to a modest sized farm style home, that is airy and comfortable. Hale Kailani is our second home, so we furnish it with our own kind of home comforts. Outdoor seating is provided on my makai (ocean) side that is perfect for watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee, whale watching or star gazing in the evening. A smaller covered front porch provides a lovely alternative for when it's raining and also allows you to experience the mauka (mountain) side of the home, the vegetation and the tropical birds, including a few endangered Nene geese.

David is a local boy, growing up fishing and surfing so being able to fish right in his backyard is a huge bonus. When we visit, we spend every evening out on the lanai as the sun go down. We often see beautiful full moons with crystal clear skies and stars like you wouldn't believe. We have on occasion got to do some storm watching with lightning bolts out over the water. In January, February and March the humpback whales migrate through the islands, and they literally breech in the depths right off the lanai. It's amazing. It is my absolute favorite time to visit.
