Recently upgraded, Blue Heron Cottages offers our guests the ultimate in turn key, PET FRIENDLY vacationing. Here you will find all you need for your stay of 3 days or 3 weeks or even 3 months.

Each of our 6 dog friendly, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, cottages offer the same floor plan and appointments. Each sleeps up to 4 adults comfortably.

You will find a queen sized bed in the separate bedroom and, in the living room, a sectional sofa which converts to a VERY comfortable full queen bed. All linens and towels are provided.

Amenities include a fully equipped, chef inspiring, kitchen. In the living room and bedroom you will find SmartTVs equipped with Amazon Fire Sticks so you will be able to watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and various other entertainment Applications.

The Living Room and Bedroom share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom which can be accessed from both areas. The bathroom has a shower/bath combo with removable shower nozzle. Each cottage is equipped with 4 sets of towels, including beach towels.

The cottages are cooled by ocean breezes, ceiling and movable tower fans, but you may rent a portable a/c unit for a nominal fee. In the cooler months we offer portable heaters.

Additionally, we provide COMPLEMENTARY beach cruisers, boogie and surf boards, beach chairs, small coolers and sand toys for your use.
Each of our 6 dog friendly, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom,  cottages offer the same floor plan and appointments. Each sleeps up to 4 adults comfortably.

The two areas share a jack-and-jill bathroom which can be accessed from either the living room or the bedroom. Each cottage is equipped with 4 sets of towels, including beach towels. 

 Amenities include a fully equipped, chef inspiring kitchen with gas range and full size refrigerator. We provide Britta Water Filters so bring a reusable water bottle. 

Both the living room and bedroom have SmartTVs equipped with Amazon FireSticks giving access to  Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Pandora, and various other entertainment Applications.  

Additionally, we provide complementary, beach cruisers, boogie and surf boards, beach chairs, small coolers and sand toys for your use.   

All of our cottages open on to a lovely, fenced-in courtyard.  Enjoy the large shared courtyard under the gazebo listening to the wild local parrots as they go about their day. Barbecue with friends and family, toss the ball for your pup, or just relax and soak up the sun in our lounge chairs.

The gazebo is the perfect spot to gather and enjoy the evening sea breeze or morning coffee. 

Although our cottages have ceiling fans, tower fans and access to cool ocean breezes, it can still become uncomfortably hot during an all too common heat wave. So, in order to keep our rental rates lower for all, we have opted to provide portable a/c units  for a nominal fee of USD 10/day, USD 60/week, or USD 200/month.

Each cottage comes with one off street parking place best suited for compact cars, but can accommodate small SUVs.

We offer free onsite laundry facilities and detergent.

Perfect Accommodation and Perfect Location

The cottage was very clean and well appointed. The kitchen had everything you’d need to cook a big meal. The courtyard was very peaceful and the laundry room was an added bonus. Denise, the owner, was extremely responsive to questions and very nice. Is definitely stay here again!

Pet friendly with low pet deposit, individual cottages that are very cozy and comfortable, and on site management (very responsive to needs, which were very few).

Cute and comfortable little cottages are perfect for a San Diego getaway.

These cottages and the courtyard make for a perfect little home away from home while visiting the beach. The on-site manager was friendly and helpful when we needed anything. Couldn’t ask for more!

Wonderful and truly dog friendly!

I had a great stay here during my vacation. Denise and Charlie made us feel welcome and part of the family from the moment we arrived there. My dog loved the courtyard and made a lot of new friends. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful.

Beach life with quick access to all of Ocean Beach

We have been coming to Ocean Beach for seven years, and this was our first time staying at the Blue Heron. We were thrilled with our cozy cottage, it was very clean, and everything we needed was supplied. The bed was very comfortable, which is a big deal for us. We did not bring our dogs, we did notice the well-fenced yard other dogs and their people enjoyed. We hung out at our cottage quite a bit and enjoyed biking around OB, walking to the cliffs, and living the beach town life.

Blue Heron Cottage #3, Ocean Beach

This is a perfect place for a couple when you want to be within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, bars & shopping. We loved having the private cottage. The property is very pet friendly. There is a beautiful courtyard and an assigned parking space. The manager lives on-site & is very hospitable. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Vacation Place For You And Your Dogs

Great location close to many restaurants, bars and shops, all within walking distance. Great pet friendly lodging. There is a fenced common yard that your dog can lounge in. One bedroom one bath cottages with full kitchen and sleeper sofa. Barbecue grills in the yard and plenty of complimentary beach toys and bikes. Friendly on site property manager, Charley will help with any questions or issues. Coin operated laundry on site, $1.25 wash $1.00 dry,bring quarters, complimentary soap and softener. Wednesday Farmers Market on Newport Street is a must see. Hodad’s Cheeseburger, Fries and Milkshakes are very good. Dog Beach is a great outing for you and your dog. Your dog can run and frolick with others dogs OFF LEASH. The beach is about a mile long so plenty of room for them to run and play. There is another dog Beach on Fiesta Island which is even larger than the OB Dog Beach. You will need a car to get to it but it is worth a visit. It is a good place for a beach vacation with your dog(s)

Perfect place!

We had a great time! The house was so perfect and we had a great time, the yard was beautiful and clean and we loved that we could bring the dog. Charlie the onsite manager was so great and helpful and we will definitely be back!!

Airplane traffic and noise aside we live Blue Heron it's comfortable clean and so many amenities to choose from Bikes, boogie boards umbrellas beach chairs so fun!

Awesome Expierence

It was a Awesome Experience,the Cottage was so comfortable and Cozy.I loved Sunset Cliffs in walking distant,and Pets Beach was so awesome my dog had the time of her life.The people staying there were so nice.I needed this time for my dog and myself to get away and clear my mind and there is nothing like sitting next to the beach with the crisp air and Listening to the waves.I highly recommend this place.

Great Place!

My husband and I came down for a wedding and had a wonderful stay. Although we don't have a dog, we love them and got to many very nice dogs. The place is quiet, comfortable, clean, mondern and close to everything. It was the perfect place to call home while enjoying OB. Thanks for everything.

These cottages are amazing, especially if you travel with your dog.

The cottages are in a great location, close to dog beach and sunset cliffs. The courtyard is perfect for dogs. The rooms are clean and well-appointed. The on-site manager is friendly and helpful. We will be back with our dog!

Clean, well-equipped property just minutes from fun

The entire property was so well equipped! Our bungalow had everything we needed to cook breakfast at home and plenty of dishware and utensils for when we grilled burgers and hot dogs in the courtyard. The gazebo outdoors was big and there was plenty of space to relax. The home had a smart TV in the bedroom and loads of natural light from all the windows. The blinds were so easy to use! The location is perfect, just a short 5 minute walk to all the fun around Newport Avenue. I would absolutely recommend Blue Heron and look forward to making another visit!

A Nice Pet Friendly Vacation Cottage

This was my second year staying at the Blue Herron Cottage. They are very pet friendly and have very good accommodation for you and your dog. The fenced back yard is shared with five other cottage renters, and provides a good location to exercise your dog. There are two gas barbecue grills for those who desire to grill during their stay. The cottage is a mere 1.5 blocks from the ocean and there is a nice little beach known as "The Cove". The dog beach is about a mile or two away but it is worth the journey. It is a large beach area where your hounds can run off leash. There is another dog beach on Fiesta Island that is about five miles away. This dog beach is even larger than the other dog beach. There are plenty of restaurants and bars about four or five blocks away. The Olive Tree Market Place is a good deli within walking distance and they make a great sandwich. The cottage was well stocked and had everything one needs for a nice stay. Checkin and check out is a breeze. Hi speed wifi internet is a real nice feature that is included. The TV's are Smart so if you already have an account you can watch Netflix, Amazon Video, etc... If you are a light sleeper this might not be the place for you because it is located underneath the San Diego International Airport departure route. It didn't bother me but if you are a light sleeper you should consider this.

Our fourth of July experience

Love this place , my family and dogs enjoy staying here love the people we meet , always look forward to our next trip here in the same place , all the cottages are well kept and it's easy to keep clean, we will be back soon.

Great First Find!

We found this property with a focus on finding a place that was dog friendly so we could spend time with our family over the holidays. Clean, comfortable, lots of extras and a property manager (thanks Charlie!) who was involved and focused on making sure your stay was great. Fantastic stay and we were able to arrange an extension of our stay to complete a great holiday.

The best place to stay for you and your dog!

My wife and I needed a place that allowed pets for our weekend in San Diego with our beagle. There may be others that allow pets, but nothing as good as this. The cottage itself is great...very quaint, and everything is updated and clean. And they pretty much thought of everything for whatever you might need, including Netflix. You also get a parking space, which is invaluable in this area. There is also staff on site in case you need anything from them. The real draw is the shared courtyard. It's beautifully landscaped, and it's so nice to be able to let your dog run around without a leash. Pretty much everyone else in the other cottages had dogs of their own, and everyone - dogs and their owners - were very friendly. The location is excellent as well. You're only about 1000 feet from the water, within walking distance of the main drag on ocean beach, and only about a mile from the famous dog beach, also easily walkable. In short, I'd definitely recommend this place, and we'd definitely stay there again. Thanks again to the owners for helping to make our trip outstanding!

Perfect for families! Wish we had a puppy!

My husband, son and I visited this cottage in the cute town of Ocean Beach. There were so many choices, and we are glad we chose this place. The home was so well appointed, we were charmed right upon arrival. It's a small cottage, but just enough room for the three of us. The home was super easy to find, and close to everything you could ask for in a San Diego trip. It is not on the beach, but it's within walking distance of a coupld great beaches and super close to Sea World, Pacific Beach, and even a short drive to Coronado Island and La Jolla. All of these spots we visited! PROs --The Kitchen was so nicely equiped. We had two meals in the home and everything we needed to cook for these meals was available. --The beds were super comfortable, even the front room hide-a-bed! The sheets are luxurious and the pillows were perfect. --Towels, a beach bag, beach towels, boogie boards, umbrella, bikes, etc...we never had to worry about anything we might need for a day at the beach! --Outlets everywhere. We had 3 laptops, 3 phones, and 1 iPad all charging at the same time! --Cable was great, TVs were great (although we never turned the one on in the bedroom) --Gas stove was incredible to cook on...spoiled me...don't want to go home! --Parking was great..the garage was used only 1 time, the street parking was fine and we didn't move the car that much. --The Jack and Jill bathroom was small, but nice to have two doors so we could sneak in from our own spaces, so I call it a plus!! The shower was great and the towels were perfect. --Laminated directions are everywhere so you can see how to use the tv and check out procedures are easy and well explained. CONs --No A/C. This is probably not a con during most the months of the year, but it was exceptionally hot this year, so we were a little sticky, even at night, but we are from Phoenix, so it wasn't horrible and we enjoyed the breezes and the fans. The open windows just meant a little more noise ... --Coin operated laundry. There were great ammenities in the laundry room, but we didn't have any coins and didn't want to drive around looking for change. It would be a nice gesture to have the manager leave a roll of change that covers the guest's first load of wash and drying and then we are in the know for our next loads. The home was really quite perfect...I can honestly we hope to return. It was a lovely stay and we found ourselves eager to return to the respite of the cottage to recharge for more fun.
