Captain’s Cottage - Meredith Lodging

This beautiful shingled cottage sits in a quiet neighborhood on a low ridge above Pacific City, giving it fantastic views of the ocean, town and iconic Haystack Rock. As you enjoy its multiple decks among the trees, you’ll feel like the captain of your own private treehouse with ocean views.

You’ll be happy to gather in the cozy living room, with its brick hearth, leather sofas, and a bay window for extra light, TV with Apple TV and Netflicks provided. The dining room has skylights and iso it’s a bright and cheery place to settle near the kitchen. A breakfast bar, lots of counter space and a skylight make the fully equipped kitchen a breeze to work in. A main-level queen suite has deck access and a bath with a shower and clawfoot tub; upstairs, a full bedroom is supplemented by a loft with two twin beds.

You’ll find a pair of bikes in the garage for quick rides to the grocery and beach, but it’s not too far to walk. If you want all the pleasures of Pacific City—the Pelican Pub, dory boats, sandy, level beaches—without the crowds, the Captain’s Cottage is the place to enjoy it like one of the lucky locals.

Quiet coastal home experience! We had everything we needed here. The full kitchen and open living room and dining room were great. Outdoor space with views and trees in the back perfect for relaxing.

The house was very clean and well-stocked. The beds were comfortable. The large living room windows framed a view that was better than I expected and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the effects of the storm we experienced during our stay. There are multiple skylights in this house making it bright and cheerful. My only semi-negative comment is that the heating/air conditioning units didn't work. I am not sure it wasn't user error, but I contacted the Host and a maintenance call was scheduled for the next day. No one ever showed up to fix the units, however there were enough baseboard heaters to warm the house and keep us comfortable. I would definitely book this property again.

This house was amazing! The front deck with beautiful ocean views and out the back deck was a rain forest. Quiet neighborhood and friendly people. We loved the modern decor and the skylights!

Really nice property and home. The keypad on the door never worked for us to use and similar to previous stays there were stains on the carpet of the main bedroom along with stains on the bedding.

Very nice large living area with plenty of comfortable seating. Woodsy view with glimpses of the sea and haystack rock. We were treated with a mama deer and her fawns walking by in the morning. The house was clean and had all the basics we needed. My only complaint would be that I wished there had been more outdoor seating. We had some problems with the electric entry and a non functioning toilet, but the property management were very quick to respond. We would stay there again.

Two stars only for decent location. House smells musty like a funeral home, I noticed them and was told to open up windows. We found 5 spiders and cobwebs throughout the inside of the house, the outside of the house and patio were essentially useless as the entire outside is full of cobwebs and spiders.Sheets had literal wads of hair, it as almost like some one cleaned out their brush and placed it in the beds.There were dried blood drippings on the sink in bathroom. Thankfully I found some extra sheets in a cabinet since I had to remake all the beds upon arrival. It was super gross as the cabinets had bugs everywhere. It was not worth the cost at all! We checked out immediately the next morning, it was just overall disappointing and dirty. Need a new housekeeper and pest control big time.

Notified after check in time, when we were 30 minutes away with a car full of groceries and two little kids, that we couldn't check in until 7:30pm. Minimal compensation offered.House needs cleaned better. Cobwebs everywhere. Stained, dirty carpets and rugs. Expired foods/spices left in cabinets. Pictures of property do not match the current condition. Check out time is earlier than standard, which is inconvenient when packing up after a week long stay and trying to get an entire family ready and out the door.

Wonderful rendezvous spot for family get together

We met our son and daughter-in-law for a long week-end. House is roomy, kitchen is very well stocked, view of Haystack Rock from house, quiet neighborhood, comfortable beds with nice linens…walkable to restaurants… The rainy day we had was food for a choice of puzzles. The sunny day we had was perfect for exploring the beautiful nearby beach area.I good go on and on. Let’s just say we would stay here again.

Good: - We appreciated that there were so many screened windows that could open (one side of the house is very close to the neighboring house though)- Spacious, well-decorated (if you like kind of rustic cabin type decor, but it's nicely done and in good shape)- Decent beds/bedding- Nice view of the water through the trees, and of the sunset- Not far from the main area of townNot great: - Toilet paper could have been higher quality- Check-out procedure involved stripping the beds and lugging all the bedding down the stairs to a separately locked laundry room. I understand trying to help out the cleaners but I think stripping the beds and leaving in the rooms should be adequate

Great weekend getaway

I spent the weekend here with my wife and our two young kids. The home was cozy and had ample room and storage for me and my family. It is a short walk away from the beach and surrounding businesses. Would recommend!

House on a hill

The furniture was close to the ground and uncomfortable. I was surprised that coffee and basica were not supplied. The remotes to run the items weren't working and a gentleman has to come ans fix them.

Loved this gem with a view!

I stayed here with my son for one night while visiting him in town, and it was awesome! The location, just a little elevated out of town, provided stunning ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere. I loved the decor—it was stylish and welcoming. The multiple decks were perfect for relaxing, and the primary suite was incredibly comfortable. The place was quiet and peaceful—definitely a perfect getaway. I’ll definitely be back! ~Holly

The master bedroom carpet was filthy. The only downstairs bathroom was in the master bedroom. The decks and porches were covered in spiderwebs. Had to fight the spiders for a seat on the back deck. Maybe a weed wacker on the front. The front yard looked unkempt. The house was neat and nice, furniture was comfortable.

Nice getaway place, but needs an update inside and out

We had a terrific couples getaway and loved the location right in the middle of town, yet quiet. The property affords a view of the ocean and the back is set against gorgeous huge trees. The downside is that driving up to the house you are hit with the look of decay and disrepair immediately. The roof is in awful shape and the eaves.gutters are full of spider webs, detritus, and dirt. The porches, both front and back are full of spider webs, leaves, detritus and dirt. There is an old wasp nest just sitting on the deck. The outside windows are also webby and dirty. However unkempt the outside was though, the inside was immaculately clean. The furnishings are old and stained, as is the bedroom carpeting, but they were as clean as they could be. The kitchen is well equipped. Some lights were non-working. Overall though it was fine - the main things worked like water pressure, the stove, etc.

Mixed feelings

This property had its good points and not so good. Be aware that you will NOT be able to check in even one minute early, the lock is on a timer. The yard hasn't been mowed in awhile, and the adjoining property looks abandoned, with a non-functioning automobile sitting in the yard. The main floor bathroom is only accessible via the master bedroom, had I not been alone that could have been a problem. Ocean view is a misnomer, Haystack can be seen if you close one eye and squint through the trees. Walking distance to restaurants wasn't possible for me either, it's a steep up/down hill. A younger person would probably not have that issue. The leather furniture in the living room was comfy, but so low to the floor I struggled to get off the sofa. The only TV is in the living room, it wasn't comfortable to watch. There's a large overstuffed chair in the master bedroom that served me far better. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had no storage items available, no foil, plastic wrap, baggies, etc. and no containers for leftovers that I could find. Overall I would rate this property a C. Adequate, nothing to write home about.

Loved our family weekend!

We stayed here for the weekend with our toddler and dog. The house was impeccably clean which I really appreciated! It has views of the ocean and we walked to the beach multiple times. Great location, quiet street. The deer came to say hi our first morning! Highly recommend and would love staying here again. Bonus points for having Legos, which was great entertainment for our 3yo!

VERY well kept older house

This house has an amazing layout and is kept up very nicely. We only stayed for a night but would definitely come back if we're in the area again.

Lovely cottage

The house inside was great itself, a bit dark, it was further away from the beach than we hoped and the surrounding houses and neighborhood it was in was not at all what we expected. We did not imagine our vacation stay would be next to an abandoned home and car… all in all it was extremely clean and fine for a short weekend.
