I personally walk through my properties prior to arrivals. I left this property one hour prior to your arrival. As I was walking through, I received a call from a repeat guest who was so happy with this property that they asked to reserve this house every summer for a week through 2028. This guest left this same property 5 hours before you checked in. I find it interesting that within a 5 hour window I have a guest so happy that they are booking weekly stays through 2028, followed by you, 5 hours later, saying my property is "intolerable". When I first spoke to you, one hour after checking in, you told me my property was "intolerable" because of an unidentified smell. When I immediately offered you a full refund if you vacated within an hour, you chose to stay for the week without further contact with me. I am perplexed. At this time of year in Ocean City vacancies are plentiful due to the start of school. Yet, you chose to stay without further contact with me. How can it be "intolerable", yet you chose to stay. In your review you mentioned the guests staying in the other unit of the duplex. You should know that these too are repeat guests. I have owned and rented this property for 10 years. You are the ONLY person who has ever commented on this smell. Creosote is a safe and is commonly used in the foundation among ocean front properties. My property manager manages more than a dozen properties with 30 years of experience in Ocean City. She said, while rare, over the years she has encountered a handful of unscrupulous guests who try to seek a full or partial refund in exchange for a positive review. I take pride in providing my guests with an outstanding rental experience. I believe the testimony of success is repeat business. Over 50% of my guests are repeat customers. I was anticipating a negative review from you after I offered you a full refund if you left within the hour. I believe you wanted to stay AND get a full or partial refund.
