Welcome to The Outlook – the perfect Charteris Bay holiday homes getaway. Where you can embrace the true spirit of Aotearoa, where misty winter mornings drift beneath white clouds, and long summer days reveal up to 19 hours of stunning landscapes and peaceful tranquillity, all just a short drive from Christchurch.
Explore the sea to catch a sight of dolphins, or go fishing for your early morning meal. It's a great, cozy place to start your explorations of Canterbury. #HolidayHomesNZ #TinyHouse
The Space:
The Outlook by Tiny Away is one of the best holiday homes in Canterbury Region - South Island New Zealand, 45 minutes from Christchurch. The tiny house is nestled beneath a classic stile-stilt tower, surrounded by lush bushland and birdlife, and with a frontal view of the sea entrance to Lyttelton Harbour.
Church Bay, Governors Bay, Diamond Harbour Ferry, Christchurch Riverside Market, and Ilam Gardens are just a few of the nearby attractions.
It's a cozy 139 square-feet tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and gas-heated shower—making it a perfect choice among relaxing holiday homes.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and its surroundings, including our house deck and garden, except perhaps other nearby residences. We strongly advise guests not to cross or trespass on the property of other nearby residents.
There are over 20 walking trails within walking distance of the tiny house, but if you're looking for a challenge, we have some walks that take more than 4 hours to complete.

The Outlook by Tiny Away is a cozy tinyhouse set in the quiet suburb of Charteris Bay, Canterbury – just 45 minutes from Christchurch. Nestled between Governors Bay and the Diamond Harbour Ferry, this peaceful spot is known for its walking trails, friendly locals, and stunning views. It's one of the area’s unique holiday homes, it offers a touch of history with its nearby volcanic formations, lush celery trees, and abundant birdlife — perfect for a relaxing getaway in nature.
Discover local gems: explore Halswell Quarry’s scenic trails, soak in mountain views from The Sign of the Bellbird, wander Orton Bradley Park’s forests and picnic spots, taste local flavours at Riverside Market, and adventure through the stunning Port Hills — perfect for hiking, biking, or simply taking in the view.
Getting Around:
By car:
- We can arrange a pick up and drop off at the guest's expense, but if host is available then no charge. If you're interested, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.
By public transport:
- From Lytelton, you can take a ferry or bus. But, we recommend guests to travel by private vehicle for easy access to and from the property and other nearby attractions.
Other Things to Note:
- Firewood costs $10 per pail
- No smoking allowed on the property
- Pets should be kept on a leash at all times
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Mobile reception is good with Vodafone, 2degrees, and Spark
- Please note that this is a PET-FRIENDLY property, and pet policies will be sent prior to arrival
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more (or for bookings of 5 nights or more), an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
