Family Ranch with Guest Cabin
Our small family ranch is located on Embargo Creek, halfway between Del Norte and South Fork, about 3 miles north of Highway 160. We invite you and your family to come stay with us in our guest cabin.
Our way of life is not fancy. We live off-grid with all of our electricity being provided by the sun which powers a solar array and battery bank. While this will provide for your minimum electricity needs, power conservation will be part of your stay with us.
Are you longing for a break from connectivity? Come enjoy the quiet as there is no TV, no Internet, and most cell phones don't work. Sound crazy? You may find it is just the get away you need in this fast paced world. Read a book, take a walk, gaze at the star filled sky as you lie in the hammock, play a board game, reconnect with each other. In this day, you can go anywhere to find WiFi and 4G and hundreds of TV channels. Our guest cabin offers a taste of a different way. It’s sort of like camping, but you get to sleep in a bed.
Upstairs you will find one bedroom with a queen bed, and a second bedroom with twin bunk beds and a "star" bunk (with a view out the window). A third bedroom is located on the main level and provides a full bed. The cabin has a full bathroom on the main level and a half bathroom upstairs. A large, bright, fully equipped kitchen opens to the living room and dining area. A wood stove is the source of heat for the cabin.
Embargo Creek runs through our ranch before joining the nearby Rio Grande River to the south. Our ranch includes a few friendly animals like horses, sheep, chickens, and our Newfoundland dogs. Our home cabin is a short walk from the guest cabin. In between the two cabins you’ll find the barn, the garden, the Homestead Cabin, greenhouse, and chicken coop. The workshop is nearby also. We have a pasture for our horses and second pasture for grazing. The river runs through both pastures providing the animals with water. During your stay with us, you can usually find us working around the ranch on various projects. If you have any questions, just mosey on over for a chat.
If you are interested in experiencing a step back in time, check out our 100 year old Homestead Cabin that we have restored. We have built the Homestead Cabin for the purpose of providing early American activities for guests to enjoy. Learn to cook on a wood stove, hand pump water, make butter and ice cream by hand, do laundry with a washtub and wringer, sew on a treadle sewing machine, learn to spin wool from our sheep. We are happy to arrange a fun filled day of activities for you and your family. Some activities require a bit of preparation time depending on what supplies are needed and how many people will be participating. When you arrive you are invited to look over the booklet of activities that we provide and let us know if there is something that interests you. Whether you are 6 or 60 you may find you really enjoy gettin’ back to the good ol’ ways.
The area attractions are plentiful and offer a wide variety to choose from; there is something for everyone. From our ranch, the County Road takes you into the Rio Grande National Forest just a few miles north. Hiking, mountain biking, climbing, rafting, fishing, and hunting are all nearby. The Great Sand Dunes are about an hour drive from here. The historic mining town of Creede is also a beautiful drive. The San Luis Valley is rich in history and the old west culture continues to thrive. The Rio Grande Railroad offers train rides into the mountains. Seasonal events include rodeos, car shows, art shows, music festivals, logger days, farmer’s markets, and much more. If you enjoy skiing, Wolf Creek is just 30 minutes away and records the greatest average annual snowfall in Colorado. Snowmobiling is also a popular local sport with miles and miles of beautiful trails. With so much to choose from, you’ll want to come back year after year!

Anfitrión: Tim & Lisa
Tim is a builder and Lisa is a midwife. We have lived here on our little Ranch since 2016. We love to share our home with others who would like a break from the hustle and bustle of modern day life. We enjoy working around the Ranch, reading, taking walks, listening to the birds, and spending time with family and friends.
