We loved the central location in Grand Marais. This was a perfect base camp for a weekend getaway where we primarily just explored the town. Easy walking to everything. What a privilege to have that view of the lake. We're already thinking about when we can come back!

A very quaint little nook! Truly feels like a bird’s nest. Comfortable bed, great ventilation, great amenities, great view. Some cons: deck/front windows right next to Voyageur brewing dumpster, rugs slip around and need carpet tape, and a lot of wasted space on the northeast end of the cabin that could use shelving for clothing. Everything else was perfect!

This is a cozy little A-frame that's perfect for a couple. Everything you need and not anything you don't. It's simple and super convenient to downtown Grand Marais.

Quaint, quiet place. Kitchen had everything I needed. Balcony was perfect! This was a great place to just stay in, but it was also close enough to downtown to walk when I wanted people. Will stay again!

The Perfect Spot

What a wonderful little hideaway nestled into downtown. We loved the convience of the location and waking up to look at the water. We would love to stay again. Excellent host and great communication.

Cozy Weekend

We spent a wonderful week in Grand Marais, and this cabin was one of the biggest highlights. It was warm and inviting, uniquely decorated and provided everything one could need. Walking distance to downtown and a stones throw from Java Moose.

Mokki Birdhouse - quiet sanctuary in town

I loved staying in this lovely, quiet, small cabin. Just a short walk from North House Folk School where I was taking class, it felt right in line with the folk atmosphere of my class. Rustic, super clean, beautifully handbuilt, relaxing bathtub, comfy bed up in loft, and the view!

Very good

Spouse was taking a class at the North House Folk School. She could walk there while l enjoyed long walks around town and out on the break front to the Light House. Very cozy.

Pleasant

Had a nice stay, a sweet little home! Two notes though - the water heater is not big enough to draw a hot bath! Warm but not hot. Also, the heat was set at 60 when we arrived and we had trouble getting the heater to turn on when we turned the thermostat up. Had to take the cover off and pushing pilot switch a few different times for it to respond and actually stay on. Small things, but notable. Thanks!

Everything was fabulous! I just wish I had had the foresight to book a third night. The host was super responsive, it was immaculately clean, and the location was perfect especially if taking classes at North House Folk School. I WILL definitely book the Mokki Birdhouse again. 20 STARS

Quaint little nest

Very cute and quirky get away. Loved how close we were to town, did a lot of walking. The description in Vrbo was very accurate of the property but was perfect for what we needed. Would stay here again.

Writing Retreat Cabin

I have been renting cabins in Grand Marais as a week-long writing retreat once a year for more than a decade. This is the first time I've spent my week in the Birdhouse. It was a lovely, quirky little space they pretty much had everything I needed to write all day and finish my novel. The bed was amazingly comfortable!! (SIX STARS!) The bathtub was lovely & relaxing. I was worried about the space having an adequate writing desk area, but it was very nice & the stool was comfortable. I wrote 10-12 hours a day and my back did not hurt AT ALL. The natural light in the cabin was lovely as well & well thought out. It made for an airy, pleasant space. Loved the balcony too. One complaint was the kitchen was not as well supplied as I would have liked. The lack of a microwave did not seem like a big deal, but it was missed. The small, little French press was not enough when writing all day. (This is specific to me as I was in the cabin all day & do love coffee while writing. But a full size French press would be a welcome addition!) The fridge was the perfect size. I wish there would have been a toaster. Maybe just knowing up front that there is no microwave or toaster would be good to know. (Maybe it was & I forgot) The only other complaint about the cabin itself was the lack of a shade on the kitchen side window facing to the balcony. Why was there not a shade there but was everywhere else? Maybe no one could see in but it was uncomfortable to use the bathtub in the middle of the cabin when that one window was completely open. The only other thing was something that was unavoidable and not the fault of the property owner, but the construction on Hwy 61 was awful. The view was obstructed, the noise was sleep-disturbing and it ruined a lot of the tranquility that the cabin affords. I think I was also there the week the construction was directly in front of the cabin's location. Bad timing on my part. Thank you for a lovely stay. The most important thing is I finished my novel & without the Birdhouse I would not have. I do hope the construction finishes soon.

Wonderful home away from home! Beat little cabin to stay in grand marais! We stayed here for our honeymoon and will definitely be coming back!

Great Weekend Getaway

My fiancée and I stayed here for a weekend getaway in November and loved everything about it. The location was perfect and the property was so cool and unique. Every detail was perfect. Cozy, romantic, and fun - we would definitely stay here again.

This place is adorable. Super fun weekend. Very casual. Very fun. Just about a perfect weekend. Even through a polar vortex we weee warm and comfortable.
