Glenwood - Private Spacious Home, 4.7 miles from Acadia, walk to Pond

Glenwood Pond Cottage was rebuilt in 2017-18 by 30-year island residents. The cottage sits nestled in a pinewood forest off a private dirt road, located just 4.7 miles from the entrance to Acadia National Park. Perfectly situated centrally on Mount Desert Island, the house gives easy access to Acadia National Park, the popular tourist town of Bar Harbor (6 miles), and the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island, including the villages of Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor.

With 3 upstairs bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms the house can easily accommodate up to 6 people. Oak hardwood floors, a large enclosed morning sun porch, new stainless steel appliances, and new mattresses ensure a comfortable stay.

The house is privately located, with no other homes in sight and guests can enjoy a visit to Frenchman's Pond, just a short walk away, where Canadian geese nest annually, a beaver has made residence, and where frogs, turtles, deer, and songbirds make regular appearances.

Great family stay

Nice, secluded area but still close to town and the park. The house was comfortable for 4 adults and 2 kids, and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful trip and would definitely stay again!

A quiet getaway in the woods

Easy access to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. Great kitchen, stove, and cookware. This is our 2nd stay at this home. Great communication with owner/manager, super responsive.

Peaceful, Spacious, Immaculately Clean!

"Glenwood Pond" is a roomy, spacious home with a neat, clean, and welcome feel to it! We loved the side deck with the grill, as well as the relaxed sunroom and the VERY spacious kitchen area which lent itself to everyone hanging out together while meal prep was underway! The kitchen was well-supplied with a wide selection of pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, gas stove/oven, and other cooking accoutrements. The owners even had the gracious forethought to include paper plates for those times when folks might be taking a meal with them! The living/TV room was a great spot to relax. The upstairs is arranged for three very spacious bedrooms, and two full baths (one full bath on the first floor as well) -- so very roomy!! Not to leave out the washer and dryer also on the first floor -- what a luxury to have that as well! The property itself is wonderfully situated, reasonably close to all aspects of Acadia National Park, facilitating our explorations of many of the park's areas. If we're able to make it up to the Acadia National Park area again, we will definitely want to reserve this home again! Thank you for being a huge contributing factor to the specialness of our week's vacation!

Spacious home in a wonderful location

This is our second year staying at this home and loved it again. The house is conveniently located about 15-20 minutes to Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. This spacious home is very private and offers many comfortable amenities. It is very clean - has a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, a nice enclosed porch and great laundry room. It is a wonderful place to hang out with friends and family.

Acadia vacation

The pictures do not do his house justice! Its beautiful, spacious and so clean! The location was perfect for us, only about 8 minutes from the entrance to the park and about 10-15 to downtown Bar Harbor. The location is so quiet and you can barely see the neighboring houses. We hope to return to Acadia and would love to stay in this home again!

Beautiful home in a secluded but convenient location

Five of our family members from NJ, CO, and MA gathered here to enjoy a vacation together. It was the perfect spot as the home was within 20 minutes of trails, lakes, Cadillac Mountain, and shopping. Set in a wooded area with its own private drive, while close to activity, we still were able to enjoy the privacy the location of the house provided. There were lots of rooms to gather in small or large groups. Four other family members staying in a different location came one day and the house never felt "crowded". We especially enjoyed the "puzzle room" or the porch as the pictures on VRBO describe. They have a card table set up with chairs and we all took turns getting the puzzle that was in the living room area completed.

Acadia Vacation

Clean, plenty of room, well-stocked (The house had everything we needed.) The pond and neighborhood were great for our morning walks. Convenient location to Acadia NP (5.6mi to Hulls Cove visitor center) and Bar Harbor. Did not miss A/C, but fans came in handy. Convenient to Town Hill market (great blueberry pie)

Clean, updated, but not suited for young families

My husband and I stayed with our four kids ages 4-13. The property was as described, in a beautiful rural setting. The house was very clean and spacious. We happened to stay during an unusually hot week, so all the rooms upstairs were very hot and the fans didn’t do much to help, so it was uncomfortable with no ac. The kitchen has minimal utensils and small glasses. You’ll need to bring your own utensils for eating lobster and also bring your own games as there was only a puzzle and connect four. High expectations for how the house should be left which were not specified on checkout instructions.

Quiet woodsy retreat

The home was beautiful, clean & very accommodating, nice sun room with contemplative space for quiet time. Very busy days out & about as the house was secluded in the woods but very close to everything, we enjoyed the private setting & coming home at night to enjoy the beautiful display of fire flies dancing in the woods “ spectacular “. Comfortable beds giving us a wonderful night’s sleep 😊👏

Perfect spot

Great house and location!

Thank you for the wonderful stay! The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. Spacious vacation home

As advertised, the house was in a remote spot but was also a good location for visiting multiple areas of Acadia NP. All of the rooms were spacious and there were a lot of windows. We saw deer (one buck with velvety horns) and we heard the owl. My wife enjoyed watching and photographing birds attracted to a flowering tree beside the house. We walked over to the pond twice but did not see a beaver. The kitchen only had small drinking glasses - we actually bought two 16 ounce glasses to use while we were there. We would definitely stay in this house again.

Excellent house and perfect location!

Love the house, plenty of room very quiet and secluded area but yet close to everything. we came for our 30th wedding anniversary Oct 20-25th with our son and his wife. I recommend you hike in Arcadia, visit Jordan pond to have amazing popovers, hike to Bar Island when the tide is out, and do the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. we even cooked live lobsters at the house, they have a very large pot for them and had propane to cook the out on the grill which has a side burner for the pot , it worked out perfectly. We would definitely stay here again.

Great house to stay in

This was a great house to stay in. It was clean and comfortable. It is a nice short scenic drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia which was convenient. We would stay here again if we plan another trip to Maine.

Hiking trip to Acadia

Home was as advertised. Super clean. Very quiet and private location close to Bar Harbor and Acadia entrance. Great gas stove and cookware. Minimum dinner and glassware so used dishwasher every night. Comfortable beds. Personal preference would be a better/softer pillow. The 3 bedrooms are upstairs. Master has a private bath, other 2 bedrooms share or use the 3rd bath downstairs. We would be happy to revisit during a future trip.

Comfortable, Secluded and Spacious Home in Great Location

The house was very comfortable and inviting. The layout made it easy for everyone to gather and enjoy conversation, while also providing privacy when needed. The location was fabulous - about 15-20 minutes to either Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor or the many hiking trails in Acadia National Park. Even though it was centrally situated on Mount Desert Island, it was very secluded and private. The house was very clean and was wonderfully stocked with the essential kitchen necessities. We would definitely stay there again - we all had a wonderful time!

Mount Desert Island

We were very pleased with this property. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch, both in the morning and the evening, enjoying the solitude of the location. After a day of hiking and then often going into Bar Harbor to eat, it was such a blessing to go out to our place in the woods for the night. We had two couples staying together, and both couples said they would love to come back sometime and stay here again.

Glenwood Pond is owned by Peter and Valerie, 30-year island residents and managed by their daughter Amber. Peter is a stonemason, avid sailer and professional ski instructor. Valerie works at Galyn's Galley restaurant in downtown Bar Harbor and enjoys gardening. Amber is a massage therapist and enjoys hiking and paddling around Acadia National Park.

A message from the owners - Having lived on Mount Desert Island most of our lives, we can say that it is sometimes easy to take for granted all that we have here. But when we begin to describe all that the Island has to offer a visitor we remember just how lucky we are to live here.
