WINE DOWN Large Corner Canal Lot - Sleeps 8

There are two homes on this property connected by a catwalk. Both properties rent separately or together.
Expansive decks and views of the canal, wetlands, and bay sunsets. Large entertaining space downstairs with outdoor seating and Charcoal BBQ Pit. Wine Down has 2 bed/1 bath upper level, with a one bedroom/1 bath down only accessible from the ground level.
Large kitchen with dining and bar seating, equipped with Keurig & Drip Coffee maker, dishwasher and microwave.
Boat Launch Permits have a fee of $12.00 a day to launch or retrieve. Boat permits can be purchased at our office.
Jamaica Beach Community Pool is open Memorial Day-Labor day. Tuesday-Sunday. 12-7. (Day pool passes can be purchased at the pool . No proms, groups, parties or graduations. Must be 25 to rent.

Family get together

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was nice but did have an odor from strong cleaners used the bottom floored bedroom was unusable due to it, other than that it was a great place to stay.

The perfect stay

We stayed in the wine down for our family vacation in July. It was the perfect pick for my family of 5! We have teenagers ages 13-15,15 and they absolutely LOVED staying here! We used the kayaks provided and my kids did plenty of fishing. My son caught several catfish along the canal. The house was very clean and accommodating. The air works great! We brought extra towels, TP and amenities of our own but plenty were already provided. There is more than enough in the kitchen as far as appliances and dish wear which was very nice. The location is close to the beach, eateries and groceries but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the Galveston Seawall area. Pariah coffee became a morning ritual and is a short drive down the road. I love how there was a list of local shops, cafes, bait shops, etc. provided at the house. I found that very helpful. It was quiet, peaceful and beautiful. I wish I would have booked our stay for a couple more days. Maybe next time!

Fishing trip

Clean house with plenty of linens. We enjoyed fishing and grilling out under the patio. This was our second stay here, and we will be back

Renter beware. The pictures were better than the actual property. Should be listed as two bedrooms

This place is a mess. plumber came out to fix commode. Left saying too old and can’t get parts. We entertained 12 people with one toilet. Nasty downstairs. BR downstairs is uninhabitable. If kids stay there it is child abuse. Canoes nasty. Swing nasty. Refrigerator downstairs rotting. Repairs were partial. Tv only had Houston stations and channels off no watch. No sports channels. Rental people know they do not have to listen to any renter more than 5-7 days so they pacify and wait till the next renters. This place needs to be torn down and build a place that gets it into the same decade of rentals. Overall a disaster and waste of money.

Our stay at Wine Down

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location of the house was great, layout was good for our party. The downstairs bedroom only had downstairs access. Downstairs bedroom area was unable to use for sleeping due to moldy smell, mold on back of bathroom door and walls, it had a AC dehumidifier in this room but smell was awful even after spraying with frebreeze. We did call the management Company, with no return call or solutions. We did use the shower in the bottom portion of this unit, limited amount of time spent due to smell. Therefore we had to make different sleeping arrangements upstairs for our party. Upstairs main house was clean and laid out as described. Need to remove note from toilet to "wiggle handle" as kids don't remember to do this.Home offered poles, kayaks, life jackets, bait buckets most everything you need for your stay, we did not use these items as we took our own but think this is important information to know so maybe next person won't haul so much.Overall stay was good, but this is only a 2 bedroom house until they get something done with the lower portion of the home.I am hesitant to recommend until the bottom bedroom area is fixed. If you are just able to use the upper unit I would recommend.

False advertisement/unsafe

Save yourself a lot of disappointment, do not rent this property. The pictures and description of the property are totally inaccurate. The 3rd "bedroom" is a former storage room with no central A/C. All but one room have bunk beds. Main house only has 1 shower. Strong smell of mold and mildew through out the property.

We Made It Work

We had a great weekend, the house location was great, the size of the house was perfect. But it was supposed to be a 3 bedroom and it ended up being a 2 bedroom bc the third room downstairs window unit was only blowing hot air and it's 90°+ here in Texas. Other than that we had a Jam Up Time!!!!!

Sadly disappointed this time around

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second year staying here. We came last year when both wine time and wine down were one rental. This year they split it but we liked it so much we rented both units even if we did have to pay double the fees. Sadly, we were very disappointed with the maintenance this year. Both houses are infested with huge roaches, spiders and ants. The roaches were everywhere, they even crawled on my baby when one ran across the bed. Also, one of our toilets was broken. The tank took almost an hour to fill up with water. When I called the after hours for a service call, I got a voicemail, so I left a message, but nobody came or even returned my call. I think if they increase the fees, increase the maintenance along with it. We were eating at the dining table, and I almost fell out of a chair that’s being held together by a piece of rope. Too bad this place has gone down, we really enjoyed it last year.

Great Location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We truly enjoyed our time at Wine Down. We had several family members and friends that came and went and there was plenty of room. The kitchen was well stocked (though randomly organized). I would suggest bringing more towels as we were there for a week and had wash and share the ones available. At first we couldn't find the washer and dryer, but did eventually when we went on the back balcony and walked between the two rooms. (We called the rental agency and they told us they'd been sold :-)) I couldn't give the rental agency 5 stars because we had difficulty getting answers to questions, however, it was a busy weekend/week so that may have been the reason. Overall extremely happy and would rent again. One thing I would hope is that if a family wants to rent both Wine Down and Wine Time, that a discount could be offered. We wanted to rent the smaller unit next door as well, but the price was just too high. On the last day, another family stayed there and it was too close. If we didn't choose this location in the future, it would be for that reason.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This property is amazing! You have so much room to spread out. Our family stayed in one house and the grandparents stayed in the loft. Each has amazing balconies and views. Two boat docks, a kayak you can use, very nice furniture everywhere outside! You get the whole corner lot so you have plenty of room to fish. They have 2 underwater lights to use that we caught lots of fish in. Inside the houses, they are decorated very nicely. The beds were all super comfortable. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. We will be back next summer for sure!!

April Getaway

We stayed at the smaller house on the property before and decided to rent the larger one this time. Just a quick getaway to do some fishing and relieve some work stress. It was a perfect weekend, great weather, great fishing - caught lots of fish. This house isn’t super fancy but for what we needed we didn’t want to pay for a $400 - $500 night house so this was perfect

There are 2 houses that are connected and share a drive way, that would have been nice to know. Luckily we had good neighbors for the weekend, but I could see how it could go bad easily.

BFF getaway with our families

Guests: Me and my best friend (31 and 36) and our families. My parents (in their 50s) and sister (17), plus my bff's boyfriend and children (13 and 14). It was absolutely perfect!!! We enjoyed every minute. We had beautiful sunsets, and also a view of the full moon. I love the open concept living room / kitchen. We prefer to stay on the bayside because it is cheaper, and also you can kayak or swim in the canal. The 3rd bedroom is downstairs, almost like a separate apartment. Also, the bathroom upstairs is jack and jill, with two toilet rooms and one shared shower, which was perfect. We loved the downstairs area with the outdoor kitchen and sitting areas. We also loved the kayaks and the floating foam platform -- so much fun! Next time, we will rent the property next door as well (it's a studio) and bring more people. A few minor issues: low water pressure, wood deck is old and has splinters, the stove was hard to cook on because it didn't heat up well (but def still useable), and they did not provide very many bath towels. The upstairs deck is also very sunny during the day and a bit of shade would have been nice. Also 11 am checkout is a bit early for us... All in all, it was such a fabulous trip. We would come back for sure. Thank you!

Don't waste your money on this house!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is not as advertised. House smells of mildew and mold. The second room downstairs is not livable and they have bunk beds in it. I would never let me kids stay in a room completely detached from main house. The second room had a dehumidifier in it to try and remove the mildew and mold smell. Walking in it takes your breath away and not in a good way. Staying in that room would probably put you in the hospital. All the outlets in the main house are worn out and won't even hold a plug in them. Most of them shoot sparks out when you attempt to plug into them. The house looks nothing like the pictures and hasn't been keep up at all. On our second day a storm blew over a glass table on the deck and shattered everywhere. Yes they had a glass table with a 6 ft umbrella in the middle of it on a deck. I'm not from the area but even I know they get very high winds and should never have glass on a deck. The management company did come clean it up kinda after a few hours. We still had to clean glass up the entire trip. I know I'm forgetting something we just had the worst vacation ever in this house and hope this saves someone from making the same mistake we did. When you get 1 vacation a year and waste 2k on a house like this it's hard to let go. Please beware

We had an amazing time! House has everything you need to cook with plenty of out door water toys including 2 tandem kayaks and a paddle board for kids 130lbs and under! Would definitely rent again!

This place really is amazing. My husband and I planned on sleeping in the room on the bottom because my 14 year old daughter felt safer upstairs not knowing anything about the area. We were shocked to see a bunkbed and a twin bed in the bottom room and the 2 top rooms had king beds. The bottom of the bunkbed was a full size so my husband and I did stay in the bottom room . It was amazing to wake up and walk out the door and be able to fish or just jump into the water. The view was amazing. We met the owners the second day and were pleasantly surprised they were so nice and accommodating. They even took us out on their boat during out stay. There are kayaks and paddle boards and a huge floating mat and bikes that go along with the house. This place had everything. We brought our own kayaks and my husband spent 3 days fishing on his kayak and cought so many fish. He likes to catch and release. There is an elevator which was amazing for my inlaws. It was a huge bonus. The outside kitchen was great for cold drinks by the canal. We rented a golf cart from Rick's for the week. That is definitely a must. We drove it everywhere. We got to see all the beautiful homes in the community and drive it to the beach. If you get a golf cart I suggest to get an electric one because the gas one was so loud. This honestly was the best and most relaxing vacation I have ever had. We will definitely be back.

Wine Down

Upon arrival, which was early because we were told no one was there and the property was clean the owner was there making "repairs". The garbage disposal was not working. There was tape over the button for it and a bucket underneath to catch the water. The smell was disgusting. The cabinets had left over food on them and the dishes were all dirty. Once we read the check out list we understood why the dishes were dirty. They ask you to have everything clean and put away in the cabinets before check out. We have stayed in many rentals and we always load the dish washer and then leave it so when cleaning gets there they put away the clean dishes. The downstairs that is a bunk room was mildewed and we had to dump the humidifier 3 time's and still did not feel comfortable with a child staying down there. The kicker was that we were paying for a 3 bedroom home and the studio next door had 12-15 people staying there at any time. We were asked to move 1 of our 2 cars that we had on the property so they could fit a 6th one behind ours. When we called the property management company and told them they said that they could send a cleaning crew over that Saturday but we had already cleaned and we had a toddler who was about to take a nap. I had called the afternoon before they closed at 4:50pm and no one picked up so I then called the emergency number and left a message. No one called me back and I had to call again the next morning. I still have not herd back from anyone after I spoke with them on Saturday. The only time someone called was Sunday to see where the keys where and they were dropping them off. When I asked if someone was going to call me back about the issues we had she said that Joel was going to be in and would call me when he got there and was going to do a walk through. Needless to say we would never stay at this property again and would not use the management company again. Also, the outlets barely held in a plug and they had paper over some that said do not use. With a child this is of course concerning. Everything needed some major TLC. Also, very ironic that this place was called Wine Down when there was not 1 wine glass in the house. I have given the management company 2 days since check out to reach back out to us and still have not heard anything back. They had mentioned waiving the cleaning fee but since yesterday afternoon I have not heard back.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location of the property was awesome. The beach was a quick 2 minute drive and the house being on the canal was great. There is a great breeze underneath the house. This is where we spent most of our time. The house is in need of some updating. The bathrooms have been renovated but the shower was small. The kitchen needs a deep clean and updating. There is no oven even though they listed they had one. Overall the house wasn’t so bad we had to leave but we wouldn’t rent it again.
