Our spacious summer cottage (White Pines Lake Michigan Cottage) sits on a wooded dune with unobstructed views and private property access to Lake Michigan. The large front yard leads to a footbridge and beach path over two long dunes winding down to our private Lake Michigan beachfront. The path, bridge and steps to the beach are well maintained and easy to navigate. The environment is peaceful and relaxing with private sandy beach. We take pride in ensuring a high quality experience for our guests and look for renters who will treat the cottage as their home. (Pictures of our beach from May 2020 can be seen in Photos)

There are three bedrooms that can accommodate a total of 8 people. Bedroom 1 has a king bed, Bedroom 2 has a queen bed and Bedroom 3 has a king and two twins. There are two full baths, one with a tub & shower, and the 2nd one with shower. That one has a washer/dryer for your use.

You can enjoy views of Lake Michigan and breathtaking sunsets from the large deck and/or the outdoor fire pit. Relax on the clean, sandy beach, golf, bike, fish, kayak, or walk the shoreline for miles.

For golfers, a great public lakefront golf course is just 2 miles up the road. For bicyclists, the Hart-Montague bike trail is minutes away. Kayaking and all forms of boating available. If you enjoy sightseeing, you can find interesting lakefront attractions and resort towns within a short drive!

The cottage has comfortable, inviting furnishings throughout and high quality bed linens and comforters on all beds. Two screened porches - one with wicker furniture and an antique harvest table which is great for family dinners or games. On cool nights, you can enjoy the wonderful wood-burning fireplace - some wood is provided for your convenience. We also now have full AC (June 2020)!

The beach is very sandy with very few rocks and usually a gentle sloping drop off into the water. Beach walks are a favorite past time as you can walk for miles. Responsible beach fires are allowed.

We are dog lovers and therefore allow one well behaved dog and responsible owners. Pets MUS BE PRE-APPROVED and a Pet Fee will be applied to the rent.

PET POLICY: You must tell us ahead of time that you will be bringing a pet. All dogs must be on leash at ALL TIMES when outside. We only accept dogs that are friendly to other dogs, cats and children. Dogs must be in a crate when you are not in the cottage with them. A pet fee will be applied to your stay.

Please park in areas with parking signs. Owner occasionally uses driveway to access boat and reserves use of the boat carports.

Great location, needs face lift

View and location are great! The walk is easy down to a semi secluded beach where you have a ton of privacy! Unbelieveable location. Only downside is the lack of cleanliness. I know it is a lake house on the dunes, so a little mold is not unexpected, but having sand in the bed upon arrival was dissapointing. Cant beat the view though.

Great stay

Beautiful piece of property on Lake Michigan! As other reviewers have noted, the hike to the lake isn’t for the faint of heart but it’s worth it because the beach is clean, lovely, and practically deserted. We appreciated the friendly owner for leaving chairs in the dunes for us to use on the beach and for being cool with our sometimes barking dog. Would like to return sometime!

Beach family cottage with lots of yard and in the woods

This was our second year to stay at White Pines cottage. We love the large grassy yard, campfires at night and the adventure of getting to the lovely private beach of Lake Michigan. It has the old family cottage feel with lots of space. Great time!

Cottage was exactly like pictures. Quite the walk to the beach, not for the faint of heart, but once there…gorgeous! Only complaint was ant problem (very small ants everywhere in kitchen).

Good value and great beach access

Pictures and listing were accurate, great beach access to Lake Michigan (3 min walk over the dunes), nice big backyard with lake view. House was well equipped. Beds are not the most comfortable. This is a good place to rent if you are traveling with kids due to the big yard, outdoor toys, fire pit, and proximity to beach.

comfortable cottage with beautiful view of Lake Michigan

The cottage is comfortable, with all you need and more, including a washer/dryer and wifi access. With three bedrooms, it was perfect for a vacation with our two adult children and one of their partners. The back yard has a lovely view of lake Michigan through towering White Pines. Our one and only complaint is that the walkway to the (gorgeous) beach had a little too much wobble for our comfort. Overall a lovely cottage and location.

Slice of paradise

We loved our vacation at white pines. The house is cozy and you cannot beat the location. We went down to the beach almost daily and had it all to ourselves. The beach was all sand and clear water. The walk down to the beach was tough for the grandparents, but they were able to park at public access and walk down to our spot (about 10 minutes) without steps. If you go down the street a little bit you can walk by the channel and lighthouse, makes for beautiful morning walks. The owners are very accommodating and available when you need them. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Family Vacation

This was such a lovely family vacation. The host had so many toys for the kids to play with and was very thoughtful on all the activities they listed for us to do in the area. The beach was beautiful and we loved reading books the the kids around the bonfire in the evenings. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Magical

We came here as a group of eight; four kids, four adults. This was perfect for our needs. The yard was amazing and we all loved the beach. It’s definitely a hike but totally worth it. The view is incredible. The hosts were amazing. This house has the feel of an old family lake house ready for you to make memories. Cannot wait to return.

Everything you need!

Our group of 6 adults (3 couples and a dog) wanted a quiet long weekend away on the lake and this property really delivered. The property may look like a little cabin in the woods but it’s actually pretty spacious, two porches with plenty of seating and many toys and games, comfy living room, huge dining room table and breakfast bar, a kitchen with literally everything, big bedrooms and the backyard is huge with a fire pit. The walk down to the lake was a journey as we expected - this is definitely not a walk for those who may struggle exerting themselves, but the views are amazing. Once on the last dune there is a table, umbrella, folding chairs, a fire pit - literally everything we needed we had ready for us. We had the entire beach to ourselves that weekend.The owners are quick to respond to text messages, we inquired about extra gas for the grill and which trash can to use outside and we always got a response within minutes. We would absolutely recommend this property - thank you for sharing your space with us! :)

Amazing location!

The listing is very accurate. The walk to the beach is amazing! And the beach itself is beautiful. A wonderful location close to town while on the water. My only feedback would be that the beds were very old and not very comfortable.

Quaint cottage near beautiful Lake Michigan

We enjoyed our stay with comfortable beds and a nice kitchen. Plenty of room for our grandson to play! The owners were very kind and helped us immediately when we were locked out of the cottage. Thank you for a fun weekend!

Beautiful setting on Lake Michigan

This is the perfect place to relax. We really enjoyed the back yard perched on the hill among the pine trees. There's a great view of Lake Michigan as you listen to the breeze blowing through the trees and smell the fresh air. The cottage has a well appointed kitchen and toys for the kids. The private beach is perfect for the kids. The property managers were very attentive and communication was not an issue. Checking in and out was simple. Would definitely recommend.

Super cute cottage

This was a girls' trip of 5. The cottage had plenty of space for all of us. We enjoyed the screened porch table to play games and the outdoor patio and fire pit. The walk to the beach is a bit strenuous, but we were able to drive to the public beach and walk about a half mile if needed. The beach is fantastic and there was a great view from the patio. We would highly recommend!

Manage Your Expectations

This is the quintessential vintage lake cottage. It's like reliving the nostalgia of visiting your great grandparents' cottage in the summer, filled with tired and worn out furnishings, including that thick musty smell familiar to lake houses. If that's your jam and it's worth a premium to you, then this is it. The place itself was basically clean - just don't look too closely behind the doors or under furniture. The shower had a lot of dark discoloration that looked like mildew, but that may have just been the adhesive used to repair it. The linens and towels were clean, and the beds were comfortable. The appliances, while basic, were in like-new condition and functional. Like I alluded to previously, however, overall the house has seen a lot years and not a lot of quality upgrades. One of the lamps in the living area was broken and one of the outlets (of two) in the bedroom did not work. The plumbing fixtures were either very old or very cheap, which is kind of the theme with most things about the house. The location is very good in terms of proximity to the beach, privacy, and quietness. It's a bit of a walk to the beach, up and down a lot of stairs/terrain, but the path takes you across a quiet waterway and through a nice bit of dunes habitat. The stairs and bridge were well-weathered. In fact, a few of the bridge planks were rotted through so you had to watch your step. It was also a bit uneven in a few spots, giving you that fun house vibe. Overall the stairs and bridge seemed sturdy enough to trust, but not enough to explore their limits. The beach itself is marvelous with a truly splendid view. The sand is perfect powder, clean, and there were very few people. At times we were the only souls at the beach as far as the eye could see. It's also maybe a half mile to the piers, which is a nice walk and interesting place to visit. The host was very helpful and accommodating. We were greeted with a nice welcome gift, and the check-in process was a breeze. One of the keys did not work and we managed to lock ourselves out, but the host was conveniently able to unlock the door while we were at the beach. Overall, if the rate was half and we were going for that rustic cottage vibe, then it would have been a great value. But for the rate comparable to what we'd expect for beachfront Florida rentals, we also expected the commensurate modern conveniences and luxury - which it did not. It did not meet our expectations, but maybe it'll meet yours.

An incredible home on a beautiful lake

I booked this house for a mini-family reunion and it was absolutely perfect. My family and I enjoyed our time at the private beach on Lake Michigan and loved all of the chairs at the beach that was available for us to use. We appreciated having numerous chairs at the beach for us to sit in so we didn't have to pack them in. All of us had a seat at the beach and had a lovely time watching the waves come on! The walk to the beach was a little long, but it was well worth it. My parents made it to the beach without any problems but they got a little tired along the way. We had so much fun using the grill and having bonfires in the pit in the backyard - all of us ate numerous smores and shared a lot of stories. The house was lovely and the screened-in porch in the front was a treat too. We had dinner two nights on the dining table in the screened-in room with candles lit and it was beautiful. My family and I had such an incredible time. My nephews loved the home and all of the adventures that came with it. They loved the walk to the beach and so did I. I would HIGHLY recommend this beautiful home to enjoy.

Great beach vacay

Exactly as pictured and described. The walk to the beach is long and the bridge is rickety, but for the kids it was an adventure. My 75 year old father only did it once because it was a bit too much for him and we had to carry our two year old pet of the way each time. Pretty much everything you need in the kitchen as far as pots/pans/etc go. Lots of space to spread out, especially with the two fire pits.

Relaxing Stay

We enjoyed 10 quiet and isolated nights in early October at the property with lovely sunsets viewed from the deck. The cottage and its kitchen are nicely equipped. We would stay again and come back with friends. 3 couples could comfortably stay here. Our only wish would be to have the piano tuned. The town of Montague and adjoining Whitehall are lovely, and there are state parks to explore in the area.
