Escape to our beautiful 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath lakefront house on Sleepy Hollow Lake in Athens, NY. Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac, our lakefront home is the perfect four-season getaway for families and friends.

Just about two hours north of New York City and minutes from the Hudson River, the house offers the perfect mix of relaxation, outdoor adventure, and easy access to everything the Hudson Valley has to offer.

With three finished floors of living space, spacious decks, and your own private dock, there is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the lake. The home comfortably accommodates 8–10 guests, with four bedrooms plus a pull-out sofa. We welcome families of up to 10 guests or groups of up to four couples.

The open great room features a vaulted ceiling and beautiful lake views, while the fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for meals, entertaining, and extended stays. The home also includes two full bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs, and it provides all linens and towels.

Spend your days swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, biking, or simply relaxing by the water. Guests have access to two kayaks, two paddleboards, four bicycles, a gas grill, fire pit, ping-pong table, and darts. Outdoor dining comfortably seats 10, and the downstairs deck is a favorite spot for evening gatherings.

Guests also enjoy access to the Sleepy Hollow Lake community amenities, including two pools, a beach, tennis courts, pickleball, basketball courts, and playgrounds.

Whether you’re looking for summer days on the lake, crisp fall weekends in the Hudson Valley, a cozy winter escape, or a peaceful spring getaway, this is a wonderful place to relax and reconnect.

Neighborhood highlights
Sleepy Hollow Lake is an exclusive lake community with numerous amenities including 2 swimming pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a lodge, and a marina. A sandy beach area offers lounge chairs, barbecue grills, and picnic tables.
Fishing, kayaking, wakeboarding, and canoeing are just some of the water activities the lake has to offer.

Booking Requirements:
From June 1 through September 15, we accept one-week rentals only. For the rest of the year, we require a 3-night minimum stay. Please submit only booking requests that meet these requirements, as we cannot accept requests outside these parameters.

Great Family vacation

Cabin like feel which was very comfortable for all of us. Beautiful deck and screened in porch was a bonus. Not too steep a walk down to the lake worked very well for children and older folks.

Lovely lake stay.

We did love use the kayaks and the pools and beach. There were wasps near the dock which spooked the boys 6 and 8.

Fall Fun

We went for a long weekend to celebrate a family birthday. The house was the perfect size for us and the weather was still warm enough for us to enjoy being outdoors. We hope to return in the summer!

Beautiful Lake House

We absolutely loved our stay at Catherine and Steven’s beautiful lake house. This is not your average run-of-the-mill vacation rental. A stay here is more like visiting a close friend or family member. Every room in this gorgeous house is impeccably and tastefully decorated. All the living spaces are perfect for a family gathering. The kitchen is the center of activity and is fully equipped with everything you might need. In addition, the outdoor areas have beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding hills. And even on a rainy day, we found a place to gather the family in the basement living area, with a lovely outside covered deck. We can’t wait to return!

Wonderful week on the lake!

This was the second stay for our extended family at the Scholls' beautiful home on Sleepy Hollow Lake. The house is spacious and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen, a large deck, and a screened-in porch. As others have mentioned, the AC unit in the upstairs bedroom is very loud, but we were able to sleep comfortably by opening the windows and running the ceiling fan. The central air conditioning works well in the rest of the house. The amenities in both the house and the community are excellent. We had a great week swimming, boating, biking, and playing ping-pong, and can't wait to return!

Nice house in great complex

Loved the complex. Amenities were great. Beautiful pools, and beach! Bedrooms besides master were small but would not stop me from renting again. Tenants have to get rid of their own garbage which is okay but is a 15 min round trip to keep in mind. We didn't have enough bags so I had to pay for quite a few. Lake in the back had a lot of moss so we did not really swim there unfortunately. The house has central air but important to note, the master does not get as cool. It was extremely hot this week so understandable but the ac we could use in the master was extremely loud. All and all the house is well kept and in a beautiful location. Nice and clean! Owners helped when needed.

Thank you for the very thorough feedback, we are always striving to make the guests visit the best it can be, so we appreciate and value comments that can help us do that. Sorry to hear that you purchased additional trash bags, but I did offer you a solution of placing your trash in the bins in our garage instead of purchasing more yellow bags which would have also removed the 10 minute drive to the community trash center. We have never had guests use all of the bags we leave but we will now work on a permanent solution to alleviate that issue. Recently installed central air keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature but on really hot days, supplementing with the wall unit in the upstairs master can add to comfort but can create a bit of noise as they tend to do. The moss in the lake we cannot control, that Mother Nature and Lake Life! I’m happy to hear that you found our home comfortable for your vacation!

We spent two months at this property on Sleepy Hollow Lake and found it to be a peaceful and scenic retreat. The lake itself was the highlight-beautiful views, and well-stocked with kayaks and paddle boards. The home was comfortable for long stays. While the kitchen was small and lacked pantry space, we were not permitted to use the pantry which is necessary for longer stays. The kitchen was adequately stocked with necessary utensils but needs additional lighting. There was some deferred maintenance, but nothing that significantly impacted our stay. One drawback was no trash pickup. We were required to drive about 10 minutes to dispose of trash and garbage at the local dump using specific yellow bags. During the final two weeks, we experienced a yellow jacket issue inside the home. The hosts were responsive and tried to help, but resolving it would have required us to vacate, which wasn't feasible. We didn't feel a strong connection to the town of Athens itself, which lacked the charm of nearby communities. However, we enjoyed the local farmers markets, travelling to Hudson, and golfing at Windham Country Club. One additional treat for us was having our grandchildren visit-plenty of space and activities to keep everyone engaged.

Terrible host and experience

I stayed with 8 other people for New Years. We had gone skiing all day and came home to take showers. There was no hot water. We contacted the host and he told me that he would not be able to send someone out until the next day. The next morning the neighbor came over and confirmed the shower and bath tub did not have hot water. Host never sent a plumber. We did not have hot water for the entire stay. After we checked out I had asked the host for a small refund for the inconvenience. I was told, "no." I asked VRBO for assistance, they also said, "no." If you have a problem with the host, you must report it while you are still in the rental. It's not a good policy that the host can impose numerous fines at their discretion, but a legitimate concern can not qualify for a partial refund if the host does not agree to it. FYI, do not contact host through the # provided. Use the VRBO app, that way VRBO can see the conversations. TERRBLE experience with the HOST and VRBO. Other things to be aware of: They have multiple documents to print, sign, scan and return for the lake community. In order to avoid a fine you MUST throw away your trash, which is a 20 MINUTE round trip ride from the house, using you personal vehicle. There is NO hot water in the downstairs bathroom, Apparently it was never set up?

Unfortunately most of this review is untrue and it is disheartening that a guest can slander in order to receive unwarranted reimbursement . VRBO did not agree to any reimbursement from us because they had all of the facts and saw that the renter was not being truthful. We acted in good faith ASAP to rectify the issue and the guests did have hot water. We have had five star reviews since becoming hosts years ago but you can’t please everyone! We work hard to make our guests visit to our home pleasant and enjoyable :).

Beautiful house perfect for large family gatherings.

My family stayed at his lovely lake house for our annual Thanksgiving celebration and had a wonderful time. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and flows beautifully for large family meals. Loved the homey feel and the large bedrooms. The linens and blankets were the best we have ever had!! took notes on brands to buy some for my house. HUGE PLUS: the double oven was amazing!! Thank you for a wonderful holiday and beautiful memories.

Making memories with family!

Very relaxing week that went way to fast! Having just come from VT were you can’t walk out side with out being attacked by gnats there was not a one here!!!! The weather was sunny and very hot mid 90’s - 100. The house was very comfortable with central air, though there is a wall unit air conditioner in the upstairs that is loud but does the job. With those temps water was a must, it was just floating on the tubes provide, which were amazing, first time paddle boarding, kayaking, a short drive to the closer pool (to hot to walk but could be done just over a mile). There is also a pirate ship with fireman pole and swing for 5 and under there that was a big hit! We did go one day to the lake beach which is great if you have kids, there are roped off areas, jumping off raft, and a larger pool there, you have to drive but it’s only about 10 minutes. Catskills is 15 minutes away we’re there is a Walmart and a nice town to walk around, found out in town most shops are closed on Tuesday. The farmers market there on Sunday was perfect for corn, tomatoes, bread, and pastries. Can’t say enough about the comfort of the house, the decks with amble seating and umbrellas, screened in lower deck, living room and family. There was ladder ball and corn hole available and other out side games. Fishing for Sunny’s was fun for the grandson but not even a nibble for the adults. The kitchen has got me wanting a double oven! The drinks fridge was a nice plus. Bring your s’more forks to use for the fire pit, great seating there also. Would definitely recommend 😊

Great vacation week on the lake!

Three generations of our family enjoyed a lovely week in the Scholls' beautiful house on Sleepy Hollow Lake. Most of the week was very hot, and we were glad to be able to jump into the lake right off the dock. My grandkids, ages 4 and 7, loved the pool and the sandy beach, a short drive from the house. The kayaks and paddle boards were also put to use. This is a wonderful home in a great location for swimming, boating, biking, and hiking. We hope to return next summer!

Great weekend

The house was great - very clean and roomy and great for hanging out and relaxing. The a/c on the main level didn’t work well and was hot but the other two levels felt fine. It had lots of good toys to use in the lake and we had a great stay.

Great week in August!

We had a great week in this spotless, well appointed, bear themed lake house. Having access to the beach and pools was a lifesaver for the very hot week we stayed. Central air, too. (not mentioned on web site). Beautiful screened porch on lower level was a plus, as well as the Heron that visited us a few times. If going with small children, plan on moving some fragile decor to safety during your stay. Had fun with the kayaks and paddle board early in the week before it got hot and humid, then it was hit the pools. Also, enjoyed visiting towns of Hudson, Catskill and Kingston. Our family highly recommends this lake house for a wonderful vacation on Sleepy Hollow Lake!

Summer getaway

Great house at the end of Sleepy Hollow Lake. Quiet and relaxing. We had a blast trying out paddle boarding, and taking some kayak adventures. Great family vacation week. Catherine quick to respond to any questions, great host.

Great time at the lake at the end of summer

Catherine's property is even better in person than in the listing. Plenty of room for our group of 4. We cooked in the kitchen, on the grill and even at the fire pit most of the nights we were there. The deck is just lovely. Swam, kayaked everyday, biked around the community and even went to the community pool. And wifi was great for doing work remotely in these times!

Weekend Family Wedding at the Lake

What a beautiful home and location! We had 13 family members stay at this lakefront property for my daughter’s scaled down Covid wedding at the lake. We couldn’t have been happier. Looking forward to returning soon!
