Classic BHI Home, Ideal for 2 Families, Easy Beach Access

Our custom-built, professionally decorated and designed home comfortably accommodates multiple families. With 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, it’s ideal for two or three families to enjoy.
Located in the heart of beautiful Cape Fear Station, you’ll be within an easy walk of both East Beach and South Beach, Shoals Club, Turtle Conservancy, Commons Park, and Mike’s Bites! The Maritime Market and other shops and restaurants are just a short golf cart or bike ride away. You’ll have the use of our two 2020 golf carts (one 4-passenger and one 6-passenger), and you can easily rent bikes and have them delivered to the house.

Our spacious open floor plan makes it easy for the whole group to be together without feeling crowded, while our private bedroom suites make it just as easy for you to get away for quiet time when needed. Our spacious kitchen is fully equipped, and a classic Weber charcoal grill is available for outdoor cooking on the deck.
Three master bedroom suites each have a queen bed and full bath. A fourth bedroom is outfitted with two sets of built-in bunk beds creating the perfect kids’ room. A fifth bedroom has two twin beds and shares a full bathroom with the bunk room.
Your group can enjoy time together indoors in the newly furnished family room or outdoors on the cozy and spacious screened porch or open decks, shaded by beautiful live oaks and sabal palms.
The large dining area comfortably accommodates 10-12 adults for those memorable vacation meals, or the kids (or adults!) may choose to eat at the picnic table on the adjacent screened porch while listening to the ocean. Morning coffee on the porch, surrounded by the sounds of the maritime forest, is wonderful.
As our guests you will have access to purchase temporary guest memberships (price is not included in rental rate) to the two private clubs on the island, the Bald Head Island Club and the Shoals Club. The Shoals Club, with pool, poolside bar and grill, and indoor and outdoor dining, is spectacularly located on the oceanfront overlooking Cape Fear and Frying Pan Shoals, a rare 270-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean. At the BHI Club enjoy the new $13M Aquatic Complex with multiple pools and water slides, or dine indoors or outdoors at one its several excellent restaurants. The BHI Club also has a beautiful championship golf course, fitness center, tennis & pickleball courts, and a playground.

Our home is meticulously maintained and will provide a restful and comfortable retreat around your days’ activities. Come spend some time at Rum Runner on idyllic Bald Head Island.

Family fun in the sun!

Rum Runner met and exceeded our expectations! The house was lovely, well stocked, clean, and the layout of living spaces and sleeping arrangements was well thought out. The kitchen was spacious, equipped and organized. We loved the screened in porch! The owner responded quickly to our questions! We would love yo stay here again!

Perfect!

The house was great and exactly what we were wanting. The layout is perfect! The kitchen is fully stocked with every cooking supply. The location was great to go to the beach, shopping, etc. We will definitely be back!

Great property. Listing was accurate. In Cape Fear Station area of the island. Good proximity to the public beach access near the Shoals Club. Clean. AC worked well. Beds were comfortable. Sheets and linens were clean. Both golf carts worked well. The 6 person went very quick which a good when traversing the island. Slow carts make a trip feel LONG. Plenty of beach chairs which was awesome. We were a group of 9. Only downside was the grill was charcoal. Gas cpu;d have been preferred. We would stay here again.

Rum Runner Stay

Great October weekend at Rum Runner

This was the perfect house for our two families for the weekend. The Rum Runner was well outfitted, with a great floor plan and a nicely updated outdoor area/shower. We especially loved the screened in porch area and the great location. Weather was unusually warm during the day, we were at the beach the whole time, with crisp evenings. Another great time at BHI!

Perfect!

Had a wonderful week here! Loved the layout of the home, and we all loved sitting on the back screened-in porch/sunroom! Location was so convenient to the beach and nice to have two carts and beach chairs. Dining room/kitchen table could easily seat all of us for meals and board games! Host was helpful and responsive.

Birthday weekend getaway

House was comfortable. Excellent layout for extended families. Three master bedrooms, one bedroom with four bunk beds and one with two beds. The location could be an inconvenience since it was on the opposite end of the island from the ferry and the only restaurant on that end of the island was for members only, but we planned to eat most of our meals in and we aware of this prior to booking. We wanted a secluded place.

Rum Runner Rocks!

OUTSTANDING property. the 3 master suites were wonderful as was the 2 additional bedrooms for a larger family. The location is good at the southern end of the island within walking distance of the beach that was never crowded...and the Shoals Club with pool, great dining and other amenities. We also loved the nature trails and programs put on by the Conservancy which also is a short walk from the residence. It was well maintained and the two golf carts worked great. We would highly recommend Rum Runner for a Bald Head Island vacation!

Great memories made!

We had a wonderful stay at Rum Runner! It was the perfect, spacious home for our family (ages ranging from 10-80) to enjoy time together! The screened in porch was a big hit for all of us too, including our pup who made the journey with us. We enjoyed exploring many of the outdoor adventures that BHI has to offer- the trails on the Reserve, the beach, the novelty of just driving around in a golf cart. John, the owner, was so very responsive before our trip with my questions and also took the time to check on us afterwards. We made a lot of great memories and would be happy to come back to Rum Runner!

55 year reunion

Each Spring, the "girls" who were freshman together in Suite 4 at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC spend 3 days time warping back to 1964 and catching up on what has happened in the past year. Rum Runner was the perfect location for the 12 of us - enough beds and bathrooms and an especially large Great Room where we sat and talked for hours. Dining room table for 10 and kitchen bar seating provided plenty of space for near constant eating. :-) We're old. We can do that. It came with TVs in every room - and DVDs although we never stopped talking long enough to watch anything but the Weather Channel. House comes with two golf carts - a 6 and a 4 and we rented another 6 and buzzed all over the island. House also came with passes to the two Member Only clubs and we enjoyed swimming at the Shoals Club and a terrific lunch at the BHI Country Club overlooking the croquet court. Perfect weather for our 4 days. Perfect house. Spotless. Owner responded promptly to every question I asked over the 12 months between reservation and arrival. Would definitely rent here again. Great time in the Maritime Forest

We've stayed on BHI every year for the last 15 years. We usually rent a different house every year and Rum Runner has been one our favorites. It's located close to Mike's Bites (Pro tip buy a souvenir cup the first day so you get a discount on Italian ice the rest of the week). A short walk or bike ride to Shoals Club and situated near the park at Cape Fear Station. The house has lots of amenities. The kitchen has everything you might need. The was a charcoal grill and plenty of beach chairs for everyone. The 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths were great for our rotating group of 10. There is a bunk room with 4 bunk beds that the 14 year old boys loved. There is one room with 2 twins and the other 3 bedrooms have Queen beds. This would be a great house for two families or one big family/friends. The management was very responsive to requests for information and very easy to work with. The house is clean and bright and was an absolute delight for our group.

Perfect vacation on BHI

We had a fantastic week at This lovely spacious Cape fear station home on baldhead island. Just a very short walk to the beach with gorgeous porches, a superb kitchen to cook Thanksgiving dinner, spacious bedrooms and a very clean and updated feel to all the furnishings. The owner was exceptionally responsive and accommodating to any questions we had. At one point we inadvertently ran over a nail with the golf cart and got a flat tire and she had a new cart delivered within 30 minutes. It happened on Thanksgiving day and she had the other cart repaired by 11 AM the morning after thanksgiving. The home easily accommodates two families and has a very spacious field with beautiful wood floors on the main level. We will definitely rent this home again due to its beauty and spaciousness and the incredible professionalism and responsiveness of the owner.

Underwhelmed

We had high expectations given the cost of the rental & the description; however, we very quickly realized it wasn’t kept up to the standards of even local rentals we’ve used. It was not luxury as advertised; the beds in the two main bedrooms were double beds, not queens as noted in the listing (this made our stay less restful, to say the least); bedrooms had roaches and spiders – we understand those come with the island, but these were abundant. Our biggest issue was cleanliness; it was outright dirty (we are sharing pics w/ the owner). Kitchen cabinets had debris, crumbs and hair; doors were filthy and had not been wiped down for some time; and the main air return was disgustingly dirty. There were not accommodations one expects: highchair, pack ‘n play, beach towels, hair dryer, enough dinnerware for 8 without using plastic. We secured this house in late Nov '20 and the owners required 100% payment at that time for a late July '21 rental. It seemed absurd then and much more so even now.

Beautiful house with amenities galore. Especially loved the extra refridgerator in the garage. Air conditioning problems while we were there, but owner addressed promptly.

Great week at Rum Runner!

Rum Runner is a great beach house for an extended family group! The house is very spacious, in a great location for the beach and Shoals Club, and very well-equipped. Owners are very responsive and helpful, and everything worked well. We had 3 generations and everyone was very happy!

Wonderful Experience at Rum Runner

We had a fantastic time last week in Bald Head staying at Rum Runner. The property is terrific, and was perfect for what we needed for our two families and our two dogs. Anne was extremely responsive and accommodating to any questions that we had. We would highly recommend Rum Runner.

Nice place but rough start to vacation

The house is nice, but we had a couple of stressful hours upon arrival. The kitchen wasn’t clean - garbage can full, countertops and table not wiped down - which isn’t the condition we wanted for our first vacation during the pandemic. Also the key was missing so it seemed like we had a potential security issue. The homeowner responded quickly, explained she was using a new cleaning crew, and apologized for their lapses. The cleaning crew returned, but the situation forced me to deal with three unmasked folks of unknown vaccination status while they cleaned and supplied toilet paper and towels. It was an uncomfortable situation. That said, the home is comfortable. We made the decision to head to the beach fairly last minute so this was one of the few homes available. But after doing more research on rental homes on Bald Head Island, it’s not a great value. There’s no view, pool or hot tub. Many BHI homes include access to the country clubs for pools and restaurants. This property only includes the opportunity to purchase a temporary membership. Access to the clubs’ restaurants is pretty important since there are few dining options on the island.

Our home is in a fantastic location on the island. We're in the heart of Cape Fear Station, one of Bald Head's premiere neighborhoods. We chose this spot because of its proximity to the things we love most about Bald Head - East Beach and the Turtle Conservancy. Our children love walking over to the Turtle Conservancy and Mike's Bites, which are only a block away. We often walk up to South Beach at Captain Charlie's Station in the evenings after dinner to catch sand crabs or talk a long walk. On hot summer days, we like to load up our golf carts with beach chairs, coolers, and other supplies, and head up to East Beach for the day. It's only about a minute away by golf cart, so once we've set up camp, we can go back and forth to the house all day to restock our food supply, use the restroom, or take little ones home for naps. We're also very close to Middle Island, where we love to go crabbing or exploring. We also like to take a canoe through the island's pristine waterways, or rent a motorboat and go out on the water for the day. As many times as we've been to Bald Head, we always leave wanting more!
