Our garden suite is located on a quiet street in the tranquil and historical hamlet of Union Bay, one block from the ocean. This 2 bedroom suite with off-street parking and private entrance, offers a great reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life. Conveniently located in the Comox Valley, with close access to Cumberland, Courtenay and Comox as well as Mount Washington and Strathcona Park. 1 hour drive from Nanaimo Ferry Terminal, 30 minutes from Comox Airport and 6 minutes from Buckley Bay Ferry

Great little pet friendly find in Union Bay

Right from the beginning our hostess Jennifer was awesome. The place was clean, the beds were comfortable and it have everything you needed (except for a microwave), otherwise it was perfect! She even had a Christmas decoration on the door and a cute little tree as well.

Beautiful suite, very clean and outfitted with everything you could possibly need. Jenny was very prompt responding to questions and accommodating. The location is great and we would highly recommend it.

Beautiful and tranquil property

My friend and I really enjoyed staying at this beautiful and peaceful property. It was quite clean and comfortable. I especially enjoyed drinking my coffee in the quiet garden setting each morning. We would definitely stay there again if we return to this area. I appreciate it the host efforts to encourage recycling and resource management. I also enjoyed meeting our host family, including their dog.

Lovely Spot

We really enjoyed the suite. It was clean, modern and comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen. We appreciated the laundry after Beach days and the kids toys was an added bonus. Location is quiet and central if you plan to explore the Comox Valley and/or access to Buckley Bay.

Union Bay Stay

Enjoyed the location, small but interesting community with a strong west coast history. Convenient to a small, local market, the ferry terminal to Denman & Hornby Island. A 20 minute drive into Comox. The suite is on the lower level of the house thus the lighting isn't great, the main area and kitchen had subdued natural light from the windows during the day with poor lighting at night. The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms were roomy with adequate storage for clothing. It is a short walk to the ocean. There were 3 electric charging stations a 5 minute walk away from the house, this was very useful for our electric vehicle, we didn't expect to have these so close. Overall it was a comfortable stay. I loved the roses that lined the front walkway, the smell was wonderful!

A wonderful getaway

Lovely, specious suite with all that you need for a great vacation. The nearby rope swing was a big hit (but watch out for wasps). A cool coffee/smoothie bar nearby and lots of great blackberry picking (in July/August). Great biking in Cumberland and Hornby island really made the trip, along with a fantastic hike in Strathcona park. This place was close to it all and the rose garden to the entrance was such a pleasure!

Pleasant

Property was spacious and had almost everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean and sanitary. The gardens outside add a nice touch since the roses were in bloom during our stay. Hosts were great at communicating and accommodating our needs. The only thing that was not as described is that this is a family home with a child living above the rental suite and as it is an older home the child running across the floors is quite noticeable.

Clean and comfortable

Cute place, Very clean, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked with all the utensils you would need for cooking. the listing indicated a view of the ocean, there is none. And I was so hoping to look at stars at night, but there’s a bright street light above the sitting area outside, which made that wee bit challenging. Really enjoyed staying in Union Bay, it’s very quiet an easy 10 minute drive into Courtney and another 10 minutes to the music festival that we were attending.

Fine accommodation

Really liked the accommodation - comfortable and clean. A microwave would have been a welcome addition but otherwise well equipped. Some confusion in communicating with the owner since my husband booked for me. Also VRBO doesn't allow direct communication with the owner until full payment is made. Don't enjoy VRBO's practice of advertising a price which is almost doubled by the time extra fees are added in.

Close to beach/boat dock

Overall our experience was good, the place is as advertised. It was a large space and set up well. The only issue we had was on Sunday morning - after we actually got to stay up on Saturday night - their toddler was running on the floor right above the bedroom at 7am!!! They have other floors their child could play on but instead they had him run and play right above our heads! It was very annoying and disturbing- not a nice way to wake up. When people rent a Vrbo they are on their vacation time and don’t need a toddler waking them up by running all over the floor above the bedroom. For that reason I would not stay there again.

Beautiful suite, lovely locale

Jenny really thought of everything! This guest suite is equipped with everything you could possibly want or need during your stay- she even provided dog toys and treats for my pooch! What a wonderful place to stay! The area is beautiful, and we enjoyed checking out 3 different walks from the house. Lots of local history to explore in Union Bay. Like any single family home, you can hear footsteps from above, but the host family (and their sweet dog) are otherwise very quiet and the area is peaceful. We enjoyed the ocean/beach nearby, saw deer on the rail trail, and Hart Creek was secluded and lush. Highly recommend! ❤️

Cozy suite

The suite was clean and cozy. Check-in was very easy and owner was easy to communicate with, always responding quickly. The property was very nice with beautiful flowers and a short distance to the water. We found it to ba a good location as home base while doing daytrips to visit differents parks even on the west coast of the island. Couldn't be more pleased with my choice in accommodation.

Perfect central hub.

Pretty cool spot with some interesting history in the Hatton house and the community of Union Bay. Was just right for the 3 of us. The beds were very good, which is vital to the next day being good and we had an excellent week. Definitely recommend.

Cozy, idyllic, comfortable

My partner and I had a fantastic time during our stay. We appreciated all the thoughtful things that were included like the slippers, French press, coffee, laundry, conveniently placed hooks, and a great selection of cooking equipment. All one would ever need in easy to find places. We definitely would book this particular place again.

We are passionate about travel, good wine, family and sports such as hiking, skiing and golf. We love to spend time out in our garden with our son Miles, Winston our dog and Izzy our cat, smelling the roses, harvesting the veg, fruit and herbs that we grow. We enjoy good coffee, so we're always on the hunt for the best baristas and coffee roasters in town.

We fell in love with the Comox Valley due to its beauty and access to a wide range of activities. We'd been looking for the right property and when we saw Hatton House in Union Bay we knew it was the right place for us. We bought the property early 2019 and moved over to the island from Vancouver in May 2019. We are thrilled to have Hatton House Guest Suite open and ready to share our excitement and learnings of the area with anyone that comes to stay.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

The guest suite was newly constructed in 2011 when Hatton House was moved over from Dunbar, Vancouver to Union Bay by Nickel Brothers. The upstairs of the heritage home was originally built in 1915 and ample amounts of old world charm are still intact. The property is one block from the beach, ideal for paddle boarding, kayaking or boating. Behind the property is the old commuter, Victoria to Comox rail line which offers up kilometers of trails. The town of Cumberland, known as a mountain biking mecca is a short drive away, and the local breweries are a great way to quench your thirst after a ride.
For those that are looking for higher alpine, we do not disappoint. Mount Washington is located 40 minutes drive away and offers downhill skiing, cross country and snowshoeing in the winter and hiking and mountain bike trails in the summer. Strathcona Park is the oldest in Canada and the largest on Vancouver Island. Parking and access point just 40 minutes away, offering access to alpine lakes and meadows, wheelchair and stroller accessible trails and day-long, all terrain trails.
After a day of activities the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa is a 7 minute drive away. Visit the full service spa, drop in at a yoga class at the Starfish Studio or enjoy one of their bar/restaurant options.
If golf is your thing then plan your stay around the 6 golf courses in Comox Valley, all offering their own unique course design and views.
The Comox valley offers something for everyone and our suite is a great base to get out and explore or unwind and soak up island living at its finest.
