Luxury Historic Eagle River Chain Lake Estate *Summer Fri to Fri Only*
Love at first sight
Yellow Birch Lake Inn is an iconic 1940s lake-house estate that has been masterfully modernized into a luxurious private “family inn,” while also carefully preserving the beautiful bead board in the five bedrooms, and the original Douglas Fir wood paneling and the majestic stone fireplace in the living room. With 400-feet of lake frontage on Yellow Birch Lake, the Inn is a very special place to experience the world’s largest chain of 28 connected lakes and the beauty of the Northwoods, with the added convenience of being close to the quaint town of Eagle River (it’s a five-minute drive). The spacious home is designed to comfortably accommodate five couples (or singles) or even three families: three bedrooms for the couples and two bedrooms for the kids.
Indoor heaven
As of August 2020, just about everything in the house is BRAND new — the furniture, beds, fine linens, bath and beach towels, cookware, dinner ware, and the outdoor grill.
The dreamy gourmet kitchen features two GE ovens (one is convention), a 6-burner gas GE stove, a GE refrigerator, two GE dishwashers, and a microwave. The commercial-grade kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, serve ware, and place settings for 20. Enjoy eating those gourmet meals in the airy dining room (seating for 14) with a breathtaking view of the lake. Cozy up with a book or a board game in front of the fireplace. Gather in front of the 75” Smart TV to stream a movie on Netflix. And stay connected with your smart devices and laptops because The Inn has free, uber-high-speed (1-gig) internet!
The five bedrooms all have lake views. At night, retreat to one the five bedrooms and, if you’re lucky, fall asleep to the loons calling. In the morning, wake up early to watch the sunrise from your bedroom. Four of the bedrooms have full en suite bathrooms and one bedroom has a full bath across the hall. There’s also a powder room! Because the Inn is connected to the city’s sewer and water system, guests can take long hot showers (with plenty of water pressure) all at the same time, which isn’t typical in larger homes. Having city sewer and water also eliminates annoying issues associated with well water and septic systems. Plus, The Inn has a boiler, a dual furnace, and air-conditioning zones!
Outdoor fun
The enormous front lawn is great place to play badminton, croquet or corn hole. Or relax in the lakeside gazebo. Or laze in the Adirondack chairs near the shoreline and enjoy the lake activity (great boat and people watching!). Bring your boat(s) (or rent watercraft from the nearby marina) and dock them in the historic two-stall overwater boathouse. At night, gather around the firepit or spread a blanket on the lawn and gaze up at the stars.
Extracurricular activities
Summer/Fall
Walk to the Eagle River Golf course (across the road) for a leisurely 18 holes or rent a pontoon boat, pack an ice chest and explore the chain of lakes. Rent kayaks, paddle boards, SeaDoos. Boat to one of the many waterfront restaurants on the chain for lunch or dinner. Bring binoculars and bird watch. Bring bicycles and bike on the Wild Eagle Trail. And don’t forget fishing! The chain of lakes is legendary for sports fishing, including competitions — northern pike, bass, trout, and the 1000-casts-to-catch-a-muskie. Visit during Colorama when the Northwoods transforms from lush greens to vibrant oranges and reds.
Winter
Eagle River is the Snowmobile Capitol of the World! Ride the wide network of trails. Watch a hockey game at the iconic Sports Arena. Snowshoe or cross-country ski on nearby trails. Ice fishing on many nearby lakes.
Oohs and Aaahs
One guest said “the echoes of yesteryear resonate,” another that “Yellow Birch Lake Inn is the kind of place where’d they’d film a movie — the kind of place you don’t want to leave,” and another guest called it “the perfect place for a family reunion — it can be your own very private world.”

About Christl Clark
I grew up in Wisconsin — first in the Eagle River area where my father owned a potato farm, and later in the Milwaukee area, with my summers still spent in the Northwoods. My husband, Eric, and I recently purchased Yellow Birch Inn to enjoy with our two teenaged girls and extended family that still lives in the Eagle River area, elsewhere in Wisconsin and scattered around the country.
My grandparents built their original log cabin lake home on Long Lake on the Three Lakes Chain in the 1930s, and the family sold it in the late 80s (a sad day). Anyway, I’m a third-generation Lake Girl, and Eric and I wanted our kids to have the unique Northwoods lake experience that my sisters and I had growing up. What is now the Yellow Birch Inn was the childhood home of my brother-in-law, and we are so fortunate to have it back in the family — it’s our return to having a lake house.
Eric and I have both been in the hospitality and travel business for over 25 years. Eric has managed hotels and ski resorts in Colorado (he’s a native), Utah and, now, in California. I arranged travel professionally for 30+ years and recently retired from Expedia.
We love to travel, meet new people and experience different cultures. Some of our fondest memories are from traveling with friends and family across the U.S. and around the world, often sharing a beautiful home together. This is our second personal vacation rental, and while we have managed units on a large scale for hundreds of homeowners, we decided to list and manage this home ourselves and share this special historic lake estate more privately. We also manage a golf course home with private pool in the Palm Springs, California area.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad
Growing up on both the Three Lakes and Eagle River Chains, this house, The Yellow Birch Inn, is one of the most iconic estates on the chain. The opportunity to not only own this amazing property, but to share it with guests inspired us to purchase it and open it up for rent. The shoreline lake presence and accessibility to the Eagle River Golf Course (walking distance) and the town provide such ease for all guests to enjoy their time on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes without being a 20 minute car ride to town.
The enormous lawn, the overwater boat house and enormous white pine trees make every boater passing by on the lake to pause and wish they could stay at such a magnificent property. Smile and wave as they pass by!
The Yellow Birch Inn is the perfect retreat to enjoy quality time with friends and family and we designed the house to comfortably handle three families with three bedrooms for couples and two bedrooms for kids, or easily accommodate a couples getaway or singles escape.
The house was annexed to the City of Eagle River, providing city sewer and water, eliminating the issues with well water, water pressure and septic systems. Staying connected is top priority for our family of teenagers and work access, we have 1 Gig high speed internet.
We hope you enjoy the Yellow Birch Inn as much as we do!
