Access to idyllic Santa Fe Lake in charming artsy Melrose, 20min from Gainesville and 80min from Jacksonville. Easy Parking. Bring your bicycle, kayak, stand-up-paddle, fishing rods, etc. Very peaceful. Art show the first Friday of the month. Public market every Sat. Great restos: 1. Blue Water Bay, great seafood and high end buffet; 2 Betty's, very good Italian, and pizza made from scratch with fresh ingredients; 3. Sports bar, very good pub food; 4. Fryers, best fried chicken you ever had! (Sorry no pets.)

This is exactly what we were looking for.

The property is located in a picturesque location on the lake. We liked the layout of the rooms in the house. The house has everything you need. The national park is a twenty-minute drive from it, where you can walk among the forest and beautiful lakes. We would also like to rent this house again.

Good potential but had several drawbacks

Difficult to find, not well marked and road hazard present making it difficult to reach property. Neighbors basically had junkyard next door making surroundings unappealing. Dirty dishes found in cupboards and broken dishwasher. No checkout instructions so maybe previous guests didn’t know to wash their dishes? Good potential with otherwise nice decor etc

Mold House

The smell of mold hits you walking in the door. Next, you notice the filthy condition of the place. The first day was spent cleaning to make it more liveable. It was bad enough we documented photos and shared them with the owner. The dishwasher didn't work, only 1 towel per person was allocated, and there was zero communication as to check-in, wifi info, no check out instructions. The water was rusty and stained clothing. To top of a disastrous stay, a male owner entered the property without notification. He felt comfortable to make his dinner and eat while we were out. We were surprised as we returned to someone being in the home! After confronting him with the photos and pointing out the severe mold issue in the home (we both were ill from it), his response was, "I am trying to work on it." This house is a physical danger to people! We tried to find another place to stay, but were unable to find suitable lodging. If I could give lower ratings I would! I asked for a refund on the cleaning and was told I would receive one. It hasn’t happened.

stay was ok until communication stopped

The property was clean but not accurate as described online. It was listed as the whole property which is 3/2 but on reservation listed as 1/1. So when arriving, it was a concern whether someone else was in the property. I guess they only wanted the master bedroom and bath used and closed the rest of the doors to bedrooms and baths so we did not enter or use those. The location in general suited where we needed to be close to but in order to get to the property there was a very flimsy bridge over a creek that I would not have attempted to cross if I was not in a truck. It was after a large rain and the water level in the creek was up to the small handmade wooden bridge. There was also an camera inside the home which I feel should have been disclosed for privacy reasons. It was in a common area but people do not always get completely dressed when leaving a bedroom to walk to the kitchen etc. The main complaint I have is that when I noticed my reservation was one day short of what I had searched for and thought I made, I tried to get in touch with the host multiple times over 2 days with no reply. I then contacted VRBO to get host and no reply. I got the host phone number from VRBO to test and call direct and still no reply. It is unacceptable to not be able to expect a reply from a host that knows they have a guest in a timely manner or in my case NOT AT ALL after message online, text, phone call, and an email from VRBO.

Off the Beaten Path

It was a good-sized house, with a nice back porch area. There is a deck along the water to sit at which was nice (not a swimming area). I would suggest repairing some boards on the main deck. It's a bit remote, but if you are looking for something quiet and out of the way for an affordable price then I would recommend. It was about a 35 minute ride from Gainesville.

Pleasant

Very peaceful and perfect for a getaway. My husband and I came up for the Gator game and it was perfect distance from the stadium and had just enough food around a couple miles down the road. Fryers Chicken was delicious!
