A Home Away from Home in the Quaint Village of New Glarus

This privately owned brick house has been a family treasure. The home features original oak trim, cabinetry and flooring. The floor tile in the foyer and upstairs bathroom are all inlaid and original. Furnishings and decor make the home cozy and inviting. This house is able to accomodate family or friend gatherings and reunions, yet offer quiet time and relaxation.
There is a large front open porch for visiting with family and friends or sipping your favorite beverage. The back yard is spacious and guests can enjoy a meal on the patio or a sit next to the fire pit.
Located in the rolling hills of southern Wisconsin, the village of New Glarus hosts several festivals throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy the ethnic foods and local entertainment. The guest house is located within walking distance of the downtown area which offers shopping and many fine Swiss/German restaurants. The Sugar River Bike Trail is also located near the guest house as is the popular New Glarus Brewery.

New Years Getaway

Two families stayed at this lovely New Glarus home and had a memorable New Year celebration. The house was full of wonderful charm and impeccably clean. We were able to walk to the main downtown and close enough to drive to neighboring towns and attractions. Thanks for the stay!

One of the Best I've Ever Stayed At.

The co-owner of the Duerst Guest Home is named Jane. She was a gracious host from start to finish. Rarely does a listing actually "under-sell" the property but I am here to tell you that this home is so much better than depicted in the listing. The listing accurately accounts for the number of guests, number of bathrooms, and basic amenities. But the listing does not tell you how historic and beautiful the home is. The home was built in the early 20th century and has been wonderfully updated with modern amenities while preserving the charm of the original house. It has the built in - absolutely stunning - solid oak doors, cabinets, trim and curios throughout. The registers and knobs are antique and the house is so opulent and grand. I just can't rave enough about this property. We will definitely be going back again. This is a rare find on Vrbo. If I could have given 6-stars, I would have. Thank you, Jane.

A Treasure

A gorgeous home full of warmth, comfort and beauty. It was a treasure to explore with many surprises! It was completely furnished with everything any group could want or need. Strongly recommended as a place to stay. The host was very responsive and friendly.

Comfortable, beautiful home

Just a few minute walk from downtown New Glarus and 40 minute drive to Madison, this was a great home base for our short stay. More than enough room to visit and a very well equipped kitchen. The house is in beautiful shape and would love to stay in the summer when we could take advantage of the porch and backyard..

New Glarus Home

This home was perfect for five childhood friends of 60 years getting together for a few days. There were so many sitting areas and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The home was clean and nicely decorated. Thank you!

Awesome Accommodations

This is a beautiful home that was perfect for our book club 25th anniversary trip. There were six of us and there were plenty of bedrooms, beds and seating areas for all of us to enjoy spending a couple days together. We enjoyed the shops and restaurants of New Glarus and ventured to other small towns in the area. We would definitely stay here again.

One night get-away

This house was a delight. Very clean and well appointed. And very interesting and historic. We had a difficult time figuring out how to get in using the access code. Suggest better instructions. We were never able to turn on the overhead kitchen light.

Great Stay

We just had a girls weekend here - we had 11 ladies and had more than enough space to sleep & hang out. The house is adorable and so much fun to explore! Very spacious with plenty of seating for a large group.

Perfect location, perfect stay!

The house was so comfortable and clean and cozy! There were only three of us in this huge house so I feel like we underutilized it, but it is perfect for groups large and small. It was such a good location - we used it as both a hub for day trips exploring the area (New Glarus Brewing, Taliesin, Mt Horeb), as well as for walking to town for breakfast and exploring the shops and mini-golf! Communication with the owner, Jane, was clear and timely and she keeps a beautiful property. We would definitely stay again.

Girls' trip!

We went to New Glarus to celebrate our friends' retirement. The home is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. It's a short walk to downtown. Communication was great and everything was easy to figure out. I highly recommend this home for a stay in New Glarus.

Our stay in New Glarus

This was an unbelieveable find. This house is within walking distance to many New Glarus attractions and the Sugar River Bike Trail. The house had many nooks and crannies that could be explored and could probably sleep even more people than advertised. The house was originally built in 1914 and has beautifully restored wood work throughout. We loved this house and would come back in a heart beat. Thank you!

Wonderful place

This is a great place to stay. It is within walking distance of shops and restaurants. You can even bike to the trailhead. The house is a gem. It is decorated so nice and the flowers outside are beautiful. Inside it is very clean and has everything you need. We are looking forward to coming back.

Family fun in New Glarus

We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at the lovrly Duerst House. The large, beautifully restored home was perfect for our family(5 adults and two children). We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the Sugar River, and all things Swiss and Norwegian in New Glarus and Mt.Horeb. It was great having a fully stocked kitchen, and large table to all sit together for meals and games! The gardens and window boxes are beautifully done. The only complaint were the upstairs mattresses which could use with some upgrading.
