Cozy Oceanfront Home! Only 30 feet from the water!

Shelter Cove is on California's Lost Coast where the King Range meets the Pacific Ocean. It experiences mild temperatures year around, so summers are not too hot and winters not to cold.

Because of the very steep terrain on the coastal areas surrounding Shelter Cove, the highway builders constructing State Route 1 (the "Shoreline Highway") decided it was too difficult to build the coastal highway along this long stretch of what is now know as "the Lost Coast". As a result, the small fishing village of Shelter Cove remained very secluded from the rest of the populous state, despite being only 230 miles (370 km) north of San Francisco.

Today, Shelter Cove is accessible by boat, a short 40 minute drive from Hwy 101 through the redwood forrest or via the small private Shelter Cove Airport. As a result of its seclusion, the Shelter Cove area has become a popular spot for those seeking quiet vacation respite.

Shelter Cove offers many amenities including a 9 hole golf course, fishing charters, a spa, deli, coffee shop, a light house, hiking trails, community center, gift shops, a general store, BrewPub and great restaurants.

There are also parks such as Black Sands Beach, Mal Coombs Park, Seal Rock Picnic Area and Abalone Point. Much of the land around Shelter Cove is in the King Range National Conservation Area, which is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and available to be enjoyed by the public.

This home is not only located directly on the water, it is walking distance or a very short drive to everything Shelter Cove has to offer. It has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. A fully equip kitchen, fire place, wet bar, garage and all the amenities of home. Best of all it has full views of the ocean throughout the house and a beautiful private redwood deck only feet from the crashing waves. You can listen to the waves all day and night and watch the only blowhole in Shelter Cove right from the comfort of your chair.

Wonderful ocean front place

We enjoyed our stay, we had a party of 5 and the home worked really well for us. The beds were clean and comfy, the kitchen was well stocked and the view was amazing. We all appreciated the little extra touches too. Thank you for a beautiful and restful stay.

On the ocean +++

This home is in a great location, clean, comfortable, and directly on the ocean. We've stayed in Shelter Cove many times at various properties and this was a unique experience being so close to the shoreline. Property manager was very responsive and helpful.

Great location and view

The view was even better in person than in the photos! We could have sat all day watching the waves and the fog roll in. The house was very comfortable and well stocked- the beds were especially comfortable. The location was great- and a very short walk up to 2 of the 3 restaurants in town.

Beautiful views

Great views, lovely home, stocked with all the essentials. The house is close to the water and you can see and hear all the waves crashing, very relaxing. We would have loved to have stayed longer than 4 nights days and we will be coming back in the future.

Amazing Stay

We were a family of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 adults, 2 kids). The house was very clean and the house was super comfortable for all of us. The location was excellent, right on the ocean. Waking up to see waves crashing out in the ocean right outside of our window was pretty spectacular. Highly recommend, we would definitely stay here again if we visit Shelter Cove!

Great location

Incredible location, probably one of the best views in shelter cove with an unobstructed view of the the coast range to the north and the ocean just feet from the porch. Fret communication from the manager and owners.

Great winter wave watching

The house was big yet still managed to feel cozy and comfortable. The big picture windows facing the ocean gave us a continuous wave show. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of pots, knives and equipment and we had no problem creating festive meals for the eight people staying. Host and property owner were helpful and responsive. Would definitely stay again.

Great house with first line views to the ocean!

Our experience at Shelter Cove was great. The house is big and cozy. Heating was not working in the beginning but property management came immediately and fixed it. Bring your own wood for the fire stove. Great views with blow hole included!

Perfect Home on the Ocean

Beautiful unobstructed view right above the blow hole. Came down with family and 2 babies and there was plenty of space. 3 separate bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in an easy layout. It rained a few days and there were lots of games and the TV had plenty of choices. Very comfortable home and well stocked to feel like a home away from home. We have been coming to Shelter Cove for 20+ years to fish and vacation and this has been our favorite rental so far. Conveniently located to walk to everything. Will definitely be returning! Thank you!

Magical time!

We had such an amazing time at this house. The views from the house are magical, and we saw deer and seals off the coast. There is so much to do from the black sands beach to nature hikes a short walk away to searching for blackberries. Our kids ( age 1.5-6) had an amazing time in shelter cove. There is an airstrip and golf course in front of the house and they loved watching the airplanes and deer and running around the big meadow/golf course. The house is a new listing and the oven wasn’t working but that was minor. The beds were comfy, the linens great, and the kitchen was well stocked (we cooked all our meals). Overall it was a magical trip and we would love to come back!!

Nice house in lovely location had some issues

This house was as advertised and generally comfortable. We rented it for the view and it has that wonderfully. However, we arrived (2 couples) with 7 days worth of food, much of it frozen, and discovered the fridge was off and warm. We were quickly able to find the problem and turn it on--the GFI breaker had tripped. The manager knew the fridge was off and said she was planning to offer us a cooler! There was no curtain on the large patio window in the master bedroom. Wide open. While it looked out to the ocean, there was a backyard and it was disconcerting at night to undress in front of a large uncovered window. (There were holes in the frame where a curtain had previously hung.) There were no bedside tables in the second bedroom which were needed for meds, cpap, a light etc. There were nails in the walls where pictures had been taken down and no effort made to remove the nails that had held art. In general, we were satisfied with our stay but felt the house was not a good value for the price.

Amazing experience and an Awesome host

First off, Shelter Cove is a very unique destination. You go to Shelter cove, if you want real peace quiet and complete tranquility. It is still untouched by tourism and traffic, due to it is inaccessibility. Starting off Verna gave us really great instructions on how to be careful while driving down and which are the difficult points to navigate. We drove late at night, it was slightly scary, but with instructions and low gears we managed to reach safely. The property is right on the rocky coast. You have your own night time waves crashing sound and greeted in the mornings with your own personal blowhole. We did get some seal visitors swimming by, some seal pups curious enough to check out humans standing on the coast. The house is spick and span and very well maintained. The kitchen is great with lots of modern utensils. We did make some recommendations on few kitchen equipment to be fixed. It didn't bother us much. The sunsets on the deck will just blow your mind away. The beds are very comfortable, and it is like sinking in to clouds, with waves crashing over your ears. Shelter Cove in itself has interesting walks and beaches. Seal Rock and Point Delgada have seals and sea lions. But, the nearby hikes in Chemise Peaks, and Kings Range are really a different experience altogether. The overall area is fairly rugged and moderately challenging. Verna is a great host and we hope to come back again to Shelter Cove. The house is a great stay.

Best Ocean View

We enjoyed staying in Shelter Cove during the hottest time of this summer where the temperature was around high 60's and lower 70's at most. We enjoyed our stay and would go back and stay this house in the future despite of some flows. Good things first. The house had the great view of blow hole and 100's of whales that are migrating to the North. The wind was very strong in two days that splash was coming to deck and we couldn't even open the door. That is how close this house is standing by the ocean. We enjoyed the almost 240 degree ocean view with sunset everyday. Basically everything is within walking distance except the small grocery store up on the hill. These are all minor things(maintenance issues), but we weren't expecting with this price range of the rental house. The bath tub in master bed room was covered with mold in jet holes. The lighting in the house is very dark except above the wet bar. The coffee in the kitchen was very stale. The bed sheets on master bed had the tons of cheap chemical perfume smells from cheap detergent that caused the serious allergy, so are the extra sheets. The code did work with the front door, but there were something wrong with door that wouldn't open at all. The towel hanger in the master bed room fell off the first time my husband touched on the arrival day. He fixed it with the parts and tools that he got from the next door neighbors who are very friendly and nice. Overall, it was good stay.

Waves

Enjoyed watching the waves crash into the rocks in front of the house. Nice place to spend Christmas with the family. Clean and spacious,miss the majestic ocean views.
