Happy Lobster - Classic Coastal Cottage in the Heart of Short Sands

Welcome to The Happy Lobster—your classic Maine beach cottage in the heart of Short Sands, just a 2–3 minute walk to the sand. Park once, settle in, and spend your days bouncing between the beach, village shops, ice cream stops, the arcade, bowling, and all the coastal fun that makes this spot a family favorite.

Inside, the main level offers a comfortable, open living space that’s perfect for relaxing after a sunny beach day. The kitchen is well-equipped for easy vacation meals, and the dining area is ready for memorable family dinners (lobster bake, anyone?). A full bathroom is also conveniently located on this floor.

Upstairs you’ll find the sleeping quarters:
Bedroom 1 (front): Queen bed, TV, and window A/C
Bedroom 2: Full bed + twin bed
Extra sleeping space: A twin bed on the second-floor landing
Please note: the second-floor ceilings have limited headroom, so taller guests should take care.

Out back, enjoy a private patio that’s made for summer—fire up the gas grill, dine outdoors, and let the kids play in the small grassy area beside the patio.

Parking overflow when both units are rented. Suggest reserving one (free) overflow spot in the field behind the house, so when we had to do the car truck shuffle, would’ve made for an easier stay. Having said that, we walked nearly everywhere and were impressed with the access to shopping, short sands and long sands & the lighthouse Great location thanks again for a fun trip!

Perfect girls' getaway!

The cottage was perfect for my daughter and I. It was in such a great location, and we could walk to the beach and restaurants in under 5 minutes. Thank you for a great weekend!

Great house for a beach getaway

This great little house is perfect walking distance to short sands beach and a longer walk to long sands beach. Once you arrive you can park your car and walk everywhere. Salt and Sands were great with clear instructions and very responsive. We loved the little touches of hospitality.

Amazing stay at the happy lobster!!!

We had an amazing stay at the Happy Lobster!! This was our first time renting a house for our vacation and the experience was amazing. The only drawback was one parking space which was not mentioned in the VRBO advertisement for the rental. However, the Salt and Shine Realty Company that maintains the propertyprovided us with a parking pass to park one of our cars at their realty company on route one . I cannot say enough about the Salt and Shine Realty company. Any question I had was answered promptly. They were amazingly attentive and kind and made our stay that much better! The cottage was approximately one minute walk to Goldenrod and Short sands beach a few steps from there. it was so nice to be able to just park at the cottage and walk above town without having to drive everywhere.

Perfect Location for a great week at Short Sands in York!

The Happy Lobster at 22B Main Street exceeded our high expectations. The House was good size with plenty of room for everyone and all our stuff. The air conditioning was great as we were visiting on a hot week. Our host Daniele and the entire Salt & Shine Vacation Rental team were very responsive, and answered our questions quickly. The House was in very clean and ready when we arrived. The absolute best part about the house was the location!!! It was just a few houses away from the Goldenrod and a very easy walk to Short Sands Beach. Plenty of places to eat and shop only a short walk away. We absolutely loved our week at York Beach and staying at the Happy Lobster. In full disclosure, the parking space could be a little tight to get into depending on how big the cars are for the people staying in House 22A, but we didn’t have any problems. I would strongly recommend this house for anyone visiting Short Sands at York Beach!!!

Loved The Happy Lobster. Property management response time was phenomenal for the few minor things we needed. Problem with the grill. They had a new grill delivered the next day. Very clean and had everything we needed. Location was fabulous. Within walking to down town and beach. Only issue we had was the parking. Only one car parking. It was difficult to maneuver between 2 other cars oddly parked for 22A every time we left the cottage. For that reason only we prob wouldn’t stay again. It was stressful. Sorry!

With the history of the area and the age of these houses, you'll find many properties in York (especially as close to the beach!!) have back-to-back houses on the same properties!! Parking is sometimes part of earning your sea legs around here, but we're sorry it stressed you out! There are plenty of more properties we can offer you next year with your feedback in mind. :)
