Escape to our rustic lakefront home in Griswold, CT. Our home is on an oversized lot giving you plenty of privacy and space to enjoy the waterfront. Enjoy the beautiful views (the sunsets are particularly spectacular) from multiple outdoor seating areas, the dock, or the 2 firepits. There is also a balcony off of the large king size bedroom. This home rental includes the use of the kayak at no charge.

The house is direct waterfront on Ashland Lake, a ponded section of the Pachaug River in Griswold, CT. You can fish, swim, kayak, canoe, and more in the extremely picturesque waters right off the grassy backyard of our cottage home. Use our kayak or bring your own if you prefer - you can boat right from our personal dock in the backyard.

Although you will want to spend as much time as possible enjoying the water and the views we have gone the extra mile to make all aspects of our waterfront house feel like home.

Inside you will find a game room that is perfect for all ages and a home theater room with a large projector screen. The game room also includes a new bunk bed and a Pac-Man arcade game. The main floor of the lake house includes the living room with a tv and plenty of seating, fully stocked kitchen, full bathroom, a queen sized bedroom, and a king size bedroom which has it's own sitting area, desk, and balcony that overlooks the water. Pets are also welcome with a paid pet fee. 

Important: Sheets and towels ARE included with your stay. They are washed before and after every guest, feel free to use the laundry room during your stay as needed as well. We also provide a starter pack of paper towels, toilet paper, toiletries, cleaning products, soaps, detergent, sponges, k cups, nespresso pods, and tea!

Buttonwood Farm - known for their ice cream and sunflower fields ~ 10 minutes
Pachaug State Forest - The largest in the Connecticut state forest system ~ 12 minutes
Hopeville Pond State Park - multiple hiking trails on 400 acres of mixed woodland ~ 5 minutes
Stonebridge Farm - alpaca farm with open farm weekends ~ 8 minutes

We enjoyed a couple day get away to relax. The grandkids spent time with us and fishing. Fishing was a little tough with the water obstacles such as seaweed, lilypads and branches. But they did their best and caught a couple. We loved the fenced in yard for our dog. The yard had good landscaping for privacy. The lower level had the projector and movie screen, but needs a computer or dvd player to use. We didn't bring one. We enjoyed our relaxing time away.

We brought our dogs for a getaway on the lake, and although that’s what we got, we were disappointed with the lake itself. There are so many weeds/lily pads that there is absolutely no swimming or fishing. We did take the kayaks out, but didn’t see any wildlife to speak of. The house worked well for our needs, and the fenced in side yard was fabulous for the dogs, but seeing a note on the refrigerator to NOT walk the dogs in the neighborhood because of aggressive dogs in the area meant that we had to drive each day and find somewhere to walk them. If you visit, plan to swim at Hopewell Park… which we couldn’t do because we had the dog.

Great communication with Michael. We were able to check in early. When I told him we didn’t have enough towels, he had additional delivered the next morning. Very comfortable beds. Great kayaking out of the yard. Beautiful view!

We “vacationed” here with two dogs and a toddler under 2 and unfortunately had to leave early due to the number of safety hazards and poor condition of the property.Inside, hallway tiles are loose and flip up when stepped on. Behind the bathroom door, 3 nails protrude from the wall at a child’s head level. We found only one smoke detector and NO carbon monoxide detectors despite propane/oil heating. The basement bunk room had a filthy toilet, no sink, and broken/displaced tiles. The “theater” is a couch and projector on a deteriorating platform with sharp edges.Outside was equally unsafe. The deck had two large rotten areas covered with chairs and a grill grate. A missing stair railing left rusted metal protruding from a step. The yard was littered with debris, including a large wrench our toddler found. Fire pits were full of ash, leaves covered the yard/deck, and wasp nests were visible around the property. The exterior was also covered in bugs, cobwebs, and overgrown gutters.The lake was advertised as an amenity but was NOT swimmable. The water was extremely dirty and unusable for the recreation we expected.Cleanliness was poor, with grime around the toilet and kitchen, broken blinds, and heavy dust. The refrigerator’s ice maker/water dispenser also didn’t work.We left early and only received a refund for unused nights. We did not contact host about issues since it was not quick fixes.Wish I could say more but limited characters.

Check-in was easy and the owner communicated promptly throughout our stay, the condition of the property was disappointing and did not match our expectations.When we arrived, the front of the property appeared poorly maintained. The gutters were full of debris with weeds growing from them, and the front walkway had crumbling concrete. Inside, maintenance issues were immediately noticeable. The kitchen floor tiles were mismatched, loose or soft underfoot. The dishwasher could not be used because the countertop overhung the door, preventing it from opening.The accommodations were sparse. Only one bath towel per guest was provided for the entire stay, along with a single roll of toilet paper for the house. The basement game room had a strong musty odor, damaged trim, and several missing floor tiles. The basement walkout was also covered with leaves, dirt, papers, and other debris.The outdoor spaces were equally neglected. The backyard was covered with old leaves that appeared to have accumulated over many months, along with scattered litter. The chairs in the yard were dirty, and most were cracked or broken. The dock had a missing support on one corner, which raised safety concerns.The lake itself was so overgrown with vegetation that swimming was not possible, and even kayaking through the area was difficult. The side decks also presented safety concerns, there were multiple rotted sections of decking with holes that could easily cause someone to trip or fall.

The house has a lot of potential but needs some work. The floors were not clean when we got there, had been vacuumed but clearly not mopped causing a gritty layer. Some of the windows don’t have screens and there were a number of flies in the house when we got there, despite not opening these windows. Check in was easy and the hosts were friendly and responsive. The house has been updated but the new counters in the kitchen hung too low, past the top of the door to the dishwasher making it impossible to open it. The hammock outside is torn up and the yard is a bit of a mess. Overall, it was fine. Had the space advertised and the beds were clean. We opted not to ask to have anything addressed as we weren’t there long and didn’t want to deal with someone coming in to clean or fix anything so I can’t speak to that.

Great Winter Stay

My family and I had a lovely stay at the lake house. The house was the perfect jumping off point for exploring the Mystic area and it was well stocked with anything we'd need. Would definitely stay again!

The first time we visited this lake house we knew it was the perfect vacation home for our family. When we drove up to the house we parked and immediately walked to the patio to take in the view. In that moment I knew I was home. Soaking up the crisp autumn New England air I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds around me - our small children running through the large backyard, the ducks calling out, and finally the sound of the water lapping up against the dock. These are the sights and sounds that memories are made of - and that photos and videos just cannot capture completely. The is no doubt about it, this is the perfect lakefront cottage for our family. We take immense pride in our lake home and are thrilled to be able to host guests who will hopefully love it just as much as we do.
