We really enjoyed that the house was stocked with all the kitchen essentials to cook at home, which we did often. The place had a nice layout and we loved the rooftop area where we watched scarlet macaws all day. The pool was lovely and the beach was a 2 min walk and mostly all to ourselves!

Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. Easy walk to 2 different beaches and the local bar. Bar had great food, recommend the arroz con pollo. Centrally located for a variety of different activities. Highly recommend.

We loved our stay in this beautiful home. It was spotlessly clean, equipped with everything we needed and comfortable. We particularly loved the rooftop space and delighted in the scarlet macaws who regularly came to snack on the almond trees. Thanks to Stephen and Jonathan for being so responsive.

Relaxing time

Beautiful, serene and fun place to stay. Loved the pool and bar area to hang out. The beach is beautiful and quiet. There was enough room for lots of friends. Coming back in the Fall. Very quant place!

Great location, beautiful house! Well equipped kitchen and we appreciated that there was some coffee there to get us going that first morning. The beach is lovely and completely empty during the week. The locals are so friendly, we went on a fishing trip and it was a wonderful time, they took care of everything. We caught a mackerel and they helped us clean it, which was a relief. The beach bar had excellent food, we loved the shrimp ceviche! And a massage therapist came to the house and was top notch. Very relaxing vacation spot, will definitely return!

Lovely house and charming village

Big, comfortable house. Really well set up, obviously a home not just a rental. Excellent kitchen and plenty of towels, bedding, snorkeling gear, books, etc. to make our stay so pleasant and easy. The pool is completely private and has a staircase up to the rooftop cabana, which made for a great gathering spot. The village is quaint with just one restaurant but I felt safe the whole time and the restaurant is a good one.

Wonderful place

The location was pretty secluded and walking distance to an oceanfront bar/grill and the gorgeous beach. We got to meet the super friendly locals. The house was amazing and huge. The AC worked fantastic! (that's really important to me). The pool was also gorgeous! Wonderful hosts and well appointed kitchen, linens, etc. Overall Fabulous!

Very nice house in an excellent location. The house was very clean upon arrival. The kitchen is well-equipped and a good-sized grill was available on the veranda. The pool provided a good place for cooling off on hot afternoons. The upper deck usually had a cool breeze blowing through in the morning and evenings and was a good place for bird watching. We saw many scarlet macaws every day and a couple of toucans. There were two nice beaches within close walking distance. Both were very quiet, except for holidays.The owners were very responsive to questions and provided good information about area activities. The local contact was a great guy and responded immediately to all of our inquiries. He was also available for guided tours and fishing trips.I recommend this house for families or small groups of friends looking for quiet spot with true Costa Rican feel.

Great place!

The owner was VERY responsive and quick, which was so helpful. He had also thought of so many little things that people might need, which we definitely did! The property was very clean, and as described - comfortable, with nice beds and air conditioning in each room. It was perfect for our family (grandparents, parents, and 4 grandchildren ages 10-16). I recommend!

Comfortable and secluded

Very comfortable stay for the family over Christmas. Has everything you need. Just show up with your suitcase and a quick stop at the grocery store on the way in. Traffic on the highway going into Jaco can get busy at times. But house and surrounding neighborhood is very quiet. Very nice beach with very few people.

Excellent Beach House

A short, pleasant walk to the beach. I love the turkish beach towels, nice that they don't collect sand. Spent most days reading in the shade on the beach. The owner, Alex, suggested the local beach bar and it did not disappoint. Tried the local drink specialty, chiliguaro, spicy but surprisingly good in the heat. A/C and king beds made for easy sleeping after a hot day. Better house and furnishings than others in this price point, obviously a home. Just a short stay, but I would book again for a relaxing vacation.

The house was all it was presented as. Very short walk to beach and McCaws flew overhead. Host was outstanding in responding to issues. Local caretaker could improve. 1st gave us wrong code to access key. And was not very responsive with internet down. This is a remote area of Costa Rica and infrastructure is not perfect. Internet was a hard down and cell service at house is only 3G. Which is near impossible to use any cell internet due to timeouts. Host intervened and service was restored a day later. If you drove a few miles, cell service improved. Large secure home with outstanding rooftop bar!

Wonderful Stay!

We had a wonderful week. The rooftop deck is really the best. We sat up there each morning and watch a flock of scarlet macaws in a nearby tree and iguanas by the pool. We had a wonderful time at Bochinche beach - definitely recommend sturdy water shoes because of the rocks. We loved Mantas beach best - just a 15 minute drive away (but be aware that the beaches get very very busy on the weekends). There is a very nice grocery store 20 minutes down the road. We ate at the beachside restaurant and there is a great taco place at the top of the road. The neighborhood is lovely and felt safe. We went out on a fishing and snorkeling trip with Jonathan and his brother. And the pool was very important for our 5 year old!

Oasis is the perfect description

My husband and I stayed at this lovely house in a cute village - the home fit perfectly with the feel of the area and had everything we needed for our stay. We also received a guide from the owner with lots of info on what to expect, not just of the home but traveling and area recommendations. This was very helpful for someone who doesn't travel international very often. I am very much a wanderer so exploring the local area was so much fun, so different from the states. The wildlife is amazing and can be enjoyed from the home or as you are wandering about. I loved having the beach so close and being able to have dinner on the beach was fantastic. We didn't stray far from the local area on this trip but I definitely want to go back and explore further out and go on some of the activities that are around (like the coffee plantation tour, sad we didn't make it to that this time!). Hopefully this home will be available when we are able to go back.

A wonderful experience

The house is great. We had an extended family group of eight and had plenty of room. The kitchen was very well equipped and we enjoyed cooking, grilling, and dining on the porch. It was so nice to have the pool to use, a great way to start and end the day! There is so much to do in the area, as well as going to the nearby beaches. There is a great beach within walking distance, with a fun local beachside restaurant for drinks and local food, with really friendly people. The owner of the property was super friendly, easy to communicate with, and very responsive. The property caretaker was so so helpful, he arranged airport transportation for our group, took us on a wonderful boat tour and was so helpful and informative. He made our stay so easy and enjoyable! We felt very secure at the property, and definitely enjoyed seeing the pair of scarlet macaws each day in the trees in the yard. The upstairs deck was a wonderful vantage point for taking in all of the birds and wildlife. Overall a great property!

The real Pura Vida life

Big, pretty house and what a perfect little Costa Rican village! The beach was just a couple blocks away on quiet streets. The beach was quiet on weekdays, a little busier on the weekends but mostly locals. Very cute restaurant on the beach with an excellent chiliguaro! Good spot to watch the sunset over the water. Heavenly... The second beach, Bochinche, was a bit of a hike but a beautiful walk through nature if you take the eastern most route (other road was kind of busy). and if you go at low tide you can walk the whole way on the beach! So many tide pools with little critters! You could hear birdsong all day, I loved to drink my coffee on the roof....fabulous shady spot with ceiling fans and beautiful live edge wooden furniture. Next time I hope to bring friends, it would be a perfect party spot. Pool was nice and very private. The only intrusion was some giant iguanas! haha The local driving service sent a big mercedes van and a good driver. would like to come back with friends and tour the countryside. Local grocery store was great, all the staples and some decent wines. they had some affordable 20 year local rum! great souvenir! owner sent a well written guide to the house and the area with tons of recommendations.

Quiet, safe, non touristy! The pictures do not do it justice!

This was a lovely property! So much nicer in person than we expected! There were two beaches a short walk away and both were rarely ever populated. One even felt like our own private beach most days. The waves were also much gentler at these beaches than at the beach in Jaco. You can also sign up for tours right from Playa Agujas, including kayaks, hawaiian outriggers and ATV tours. We had a group of 5 adults, 2 couples and my husbands lil brother. There was plenty of space for everyone and I enjoyed the three different outdoor spaces that let you get away if you need alone time. We did plenty of cooking and the kitchen was great. The locals are very friendly and the little local bar at the beach is adorable and even serves decent food. Jaco is a short ride away and we rented a car for part of the stay to explore the city and near by Carara National Park. The park has a lovely jungle hike for 11 dollars a person and there were lots of other tours available in the area. We packed light and really only needed swim suits and shorts. Just about every one around there seems to live in beach attire so don’t forget an extra suit or two and spare flip flops! 10 out of 10 recommend this place if you’re looking for a quieter stay away from the tourist towns. It was definitely nice to come “home” to a safe place where no one solicits you on your way to the beach after a day exploring the city.

Quiet Jungle Paradise

This spacious and welcoming house is mostly wonderful and in a dreamy location. Four of us stayed 17 nights. Very friendly safe and quiet village. One small restaurant on the beach for good fare. The busy coastal highway several miles uphill isn't audible. No planes above, no construction, few passing cars. Birdsong is enchanting. Neighbors do play music and we didn't mind that. The listing's photos do not do justice to some features e.g. the pool, the plant abundance in the front garden, and the view from the roof of giant trees full of Scarlet Macaws. Dozen other bird types, resident iguana family, exotic squirrels, red land crabs. Contact with the owner was instant. The local property manager Jonathan has a wealth of knowledge and his family's small boat took us snorkeling at a deserted gorgeous beach. Our only complaint was this: The listing allows for eight guests. That is impracticable until the owner gets more lounge chairs. As it is now, the poolside, living room, and roof terrace cannot seat more than four adults. Front garden has no seating at all. The aging plastic chairs by pool and on roof are uncomfortable or broken and far less attractive than this house deserves. Also, all bedrooms need bedside lighting and more power outlets. Except for these issues we loved this house and its location.
