Great House - Not Close To Lake!
The house itself was great. But, it is NOT a lake house! Very deceiving listing!
Luckily this was not a huge issue since it ended up not being as warm as we wanted it to be, but we would have been really disappointed if it had been lake weather.
The closest lake access is definitely not a 2 minute drive (as is listed in the details). Bailey Cove Campground is maybe a 5 minute drive, but it’s definitely not a swimming or recreation type access. The listing also mentions that it is a 1 minute walk to the Whiskeytown Shasta Recreation Area. This is deceiving as well in that it makes it seem like the house is close to a “recreation area”, but it turns out that the “recreation area” is a 200k acre national forrest that the property is situated amongst. The house is up a steep hill maybe 500 feet above lake level, so despite looking relatively close on the map AGAIN NOT CLOSE TO LAKE!
The house was very clean, but almost too clean if you have little ones with you. It’s clearly solely a vacation rental so we spent a lot of time making sure that our 2 year old didn’t lay a single Cheeto hand on anything. They did have a pack and play and some kids books, but definitely beware if you have small children.
When we booked the rental we were also required to purchase an insurance policy or put down a ridiculously large deposit for damage w/ some very concerning verbiage re what the host could deem damage and therefore keep our deposit for. That was a little off putting as well.
