We stayed a full month w our dog. Hosts were gracious re having dinner guests & even overnight guests. The property is exquisitely decorated w many works of detailed art (mosaics paintings, & fiber art) of the owners. Delightful. Whimsical. Fun. Steep driveway is a challenge at first. Location is initially difficult to find despite its ideal location to walkable Carmel sights & restaurants. Very near to all of Monterey peninsula attractions, Big Sur & Carmel Balley as well. You will not be disappointed.

Comfort and Charm

Spent month of February at this cozy VRBO. Excellent location 4 blocks from downtown Carmel. Very walkable, but steep - benches along the way if needed. Very charming and coastal decor indoors. Well furnished and stocked with everything we needed. Nice sized bedrooms seperated - one on each level. So many wonderful beaches and restaurants nearby. Chuck and Diane were perfect hosts.

Wonderful place!

The property is perfect - charming, roomy, comfortable, and an easy walk to the glorious beach and super-charming village of Carmel, where beauty - both natural and human-made - is everywhere. The hosts were very kind and helpful, responding promptly to a weather-related issue. They took good care of me. I loved my month there and would highly recommend both Carmel and this property, called "Out of the Blue," as a great place to visit. It was hard to leave!

Lovely Home

This is a charming house well equipped with all things necessary for a relaxing stay in Carmel. It is located on one of the main streets but it was not noisy at all. If you choose to walk downtown there is a sidewalk- walking back up may be a bit steep but not too bad. Easy access to Route 1 and the 17 Mile Drive with its golf courses. The owners made us feel most welcome and we highly recommend this property!

Gem in Carmel!

My husband and I rented for the month of Feb. 2023. We found this cozy cottage perfect for us and the occasional couple we had visit, and being walkable to town and the beach were perfect for all. Being older, our only challenge was backing up the steep driveway to a busy street. Chuck and Diane were perfect hosts: They were communicative immediately if we needed them and they left a binder full of restaurant recommendations and everything to do in the area. The house felt like a home and had the amenities of a home, not a rental. We hope one day to return to this darling cottage where we now have wonderful memories.

Welcoming Property!

Chuck and Diane have created a very welcoming property. It was a 12 minute walk to downtown and a little farther to the beach.We appreciated having two master suites, beautiful views of redwoods from the dining area, and. A garage which we used when our son was visiting and had his own car. That made it easier to turn around in the driveway and face forward going up hill to the main street.We appreciated the fireplace in the downstairs bedroom. The heat worked very well as did all the appliances.They were plenty of sheets and towels, as well as dishes, dish, towels, and pillows. Diane has decorated the home extensively with nautical themed touches. Clearly a labor of love.Thank you, Diane and Chuck for a delightful month stay.

Out of this World!

We really loved staying at Out of the Blue and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it if you are thinking of staying in Carmel. We used the house as a base to work from as well as explore. It’s fantastic as you can walk into town in minutes (walk back is up a steep hill) so you don’t always have to use the car. I said ‘house’ but I’m not sure that does it justice. The artistry and creativity is incredible! The way they decorated the house - in fact it doesn’t do it justice to call it “decorating a house” - Out Of The Blue is a work of art from top to bottom! and it is a visual feast for the eyes! We loved the beautiful mosaics so very much 😍 And Chuck and Diane have such skill and incredible attention to detail - from sea-themed tiling and mosaics to lamps to bedding and more. Wow! 🤩 We even loved the side cabinet in the living room which is painted so beautifully with a lighthouse and also love the frames covered in seashells. Their skill and creativity has transformed a house into something magical and very special indeed! We really were so very impressed with how much love, artistry and creativity has gone into crafting your house. It’s a masterpiece! Our guests (who left after a few days) were also in awe of your artistry and they loved the few days they stayed. Chuck & Diane left a very kind note on the kitchen table, we felt most welcomed by it 😊 (I’m a greeting card designer, so I always appreciate the thought and care that goes into a hand written note. It really was so welcoming, thank you). So if you want to stay in something more than a ‘house’ in Carmel. Out of the Blue is the place for you.

We had an outstanding few weeks here at this lovely cottage. It is in a great location and made a terrific base for our visit to the Monterey Peninsula.

Convenient and close to everything in Carmel

This property is on Ocean Avenue which is a busy stree but it is set back and it’s very quiet. The home is well appointed. The kitchen has all the equipment you need to stay and cook in house or walk to excellent nearby restaurants. Garbage pickup is the only noise you hear. The beds are comfortable. And we’d stay here again.

Wonderful cottage in the trees!

Adorable cottage with beautiful seaside decor. Easy walk downtown, short ride to all sightseeing. Loved sitting out on the deck among the trees!

Out of the Blue

Stayed at this lovely home for six weeks and had a great experience. The home is nicely decorated, clean and comfortable and best of all within walking distance to downtown Carmel. Plus a short distance from Highway 1 and so many options for trips to Big Sur, Monterey etc. Highly recommend Out of the Blue if you are visiting Carmel.

Wonderful, spacious property w/ fireplaces & deck.

Delightful and Charming! Spacious and good location for sightseeing the Monterey peninsula and Point Lobos. The owners are gracious and take pride in this property. We loved the deck off the upstairs bedroom. A perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine- which can be chilled in the new refrigerator. Lots of glassware in a large kitchen with mosaic counter ( very nice!) There are large windows across the back of the property making this home seem even bigger.Trees keep everything private but open to the outside. The downstairs bedroom is large with its own indoor fireplace and access to a patio and an outdoor fireplace. The gas grill is also great to have - but there are so many wonderful places to eat in Carmel that we only used it one night. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Many positives about this property! Attention to detail

Beautiful house with great attention to detail. Well stocked with everything you need. Private, relaxing back yard with fire pit and grill. Right on Ocean Ave with easy access to town. Follow Ocean Ave straight down to Carmel Beach. Forest theater just around corner. Large bedrooms and nicely flowing living room, dining room, and kitchen. Chuck and Diane are a delight. Of note, about 10 steps up to main level with a bedroom on ground level. Ocean Ave is relatively steep from Junipero to Carpenter. Drive way was also relatively steep. These were not issues for me.

Charm galore

Out of The Blue is a true reflection of the town in which it is located...charming! Attention to detail abounds thought the home, and there is comfort too...nice beds with fine linens, plush chairs etc. Every nook in the house is cozy and inviting. The town of Carmel is a short walk away which is an added bonus; and the beach is not too far provided you are physically fit and can walk up hills. Kudos to the owners who have made this home available to those of us that can only dream what it is like to live in this heavenly place !

Out of this world

Out of the blue is out of the world. Great place to stay in carmel. Close to route 1 and a close drive to the beach. Just wish it was walking distance to the beach. You may be able to walk to the beach, but due to the large hill, getting back up would be challenging for most.

Beautiful place, great location

We absolutely loved Out of the Blue! The cottage was charming and well stocked with linens, kitchen supplies, even spices. The location was just a short walk into town and a shorter drive to Highway One. And the neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful. We felt like we were at home. This was our second visit to Carmel and hope it won't be the last.

A little slice of heaven!

I don't even know where to start! This was our second stay in Carmel. The first time, it was just me and my husband and we stayed at a quaint little place a little up the road from this house. This time, we had my five-year old with me, who exclaimed: "I don't think I'd be able to go back home, mom." He is already asking us everyday when we'll go back to Out of the Blue. The house is perfect! We were pleasantly surprised with the books and games and blocks stocked for the little ones. I can't imagine staying anywhere else next year when we visit again. My son has already declared he is foregoing Disney to say in Carmel at Out of the Bule. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us!

Superior Accomodations

Out of the Blue is such a lovely home to spend time relaxing and enjoying your family. Warm, and cozy, furniture, fireplaces, and decorated in such a delightful blue grotto. My three year old granddaughter thought she was under the sea with the "little mermaid". It is obvious the Elliott's have put their heart and soul into creating this spectacular coastal home.

Promises of Peace

Out of the Blue is a charming upside down cottage that sits quietly back from Ocean Avenue with it’s own private driveway/parking. The house is light and airy providing a peaceful, relaxing environment. We especially enjoyed the cool fresh breeze coming across the upper deck and windows, making it very comfortable whether we spent time inside or out. We appreciated the nearby culinary delights, the morning walks along the beach and the cultural offerings of the area. The location of the house was perfect for our needs. Diane and Chuck were great to work with. They provided us with peace of mind by making their home available to us just as they promised. This was our first VRBO experience and it was a positive one. We look forward to returning to Out of the Blue.

Chuck and Diane and Out of the Blue are the Perfect Combination. Your hosts are conscientious and efficient to your every need. The home is a delightful outdoor/inside feeling of windows and light. Carmel is enchanting. And the whole experience is delightful. Try it - you will definitely Love It!
