Unwind in Stonington at this lovely little house perched right above the harbor. You can enjoy peaceful, forested surroundings behind you and yet be just a few minutes’ walk from the Stonington shops. The Roost captures the privacy and essence of its 1890s construction as part of the town’s quarrying history. That, combined with a newly-built, fully-equipped kitchen, laundry, bathroom with shower, wrap-around porch, ample parking, and large backyard make The Roost a great choice.
The space:
The comfortable Roost, the 135-year-old company office of Shields & Carroll Granite Co., provides hillside views of nearby islands and lobster boats from porch, yard and upstairs. Inside, the tastefully redesigned dining area and living room captures the essence of the Roost's history and, in chilly weather, enjoy the cozy warmth of the gas fireplace. The adjoining fully-equipped kitchen, laundry, and bathroom provide modern convenience.
Upstairs, a comfortable bedroom with queen bed and adjoining office/sitting room with a fold-out futon provide the sleeping quarters. There are bureaus in both rooms and a closet in the bedroom.
The Roost’s wrap-around covered porch is a highlight for enjoying morning coffee and evening relaxation. The large, private backyard has scenic views of woods and shore.
Nearby, you can launch your kayak or canoe from Stonington’s public boat launch, or store it here while you are out sightseeing.
The Roost is off the street yet just a short walk down the hill to Main Street's restaurants and shops, Stonington’s busy lobster fishing fleet, the Mail Boat to Isle au Haut, and the renowned Opera House with live theater, music, and first-run movies.
Guest access:
You have the whole house. We live across the driveway.
Other things to note:
