The Long Bay Cabin with View and Sauna on Guemes Island
The Long Bay Cabin on Guemes Island is a bright, freshly redone home in a contemporary Northwest style. As owners, we manage it with the utmost care and attention to detail to ensure you'll have a great experience.
Relax in the open living room with fireplace, vaulted ceilings, skylights and a stunning view.
Enjoy three decks with views and space for lounging or eating outdoors.
Unwind in the wood-fired cedar sauna.
Downstairs: Bedroom (Double), living, dining, kitchen, laundry and 2 bathrooms.
Upstairs: Loft Bedroom (Queen), sitting/play area with fold-out couch (Double) and office with view.
The space
This cheerful little house is perched above a secret cove on magical Guemes Island overlooking Long Bay, the islands, Levant Passage, Bellingham Bay and in the distance, the mountains of British Columbia. It has been updated and is fully furnished with everything you’ll need to have an enjoyable and comfortable stay.
The cabin easily accommodates guests from all walks of life: singles, couples, pairs of friends, novelists, telecommuters, wedding guests, honeymooners, seniors, and families with young children are all welcome. (For limited-mobility guests: we have a bedroom and bathroom on the main level and there are four steps from the carport to the front deck and main level. The upstairs loft level is accessed by a carpeted flight of stairs with a very sturdy handrail.) We are not set-up to allow pets.
On the Main Level: Living and Dining areas, Kitchen, Laundry Room, Bedroom, Bathrooms, Balcony and Front Porch.
The Main Level Bedroom has:
* A very comfortable double bed with quality linens
* En suite bathroom
* Two nightstands with lamps and reading lights
* USB plug-ins
* Baseboard heater
* Luggage bench
* Writing desk
* Closet and 2 dressers for both flat-fold and hanging clothes storage.
Upstairs is the Loft, with great views, skylights, a large airy bedroom, sitting area, couch (converts to a full-sized bed), office, and a spacious play area with toys, games, books and music.
The Loft Bedroom has:
* A soft, luxurious queen bed with quality linens
* Dresser for clothes storage
* Two nightstands with lamp and reading lights
* USB plug-ins
* Armchairs
* Couch (which converts to a full-sized bed)
* Crib/playpen
Bedding, towels, and linens provided
COOKING
The Kitchen is fully stocked to make preparing meals a breeze:
* Dishes, cutlery, glassware, and serving ware
* Full-sized oven & stove-top with 4 burners
* Large microwave oven
* Toaster
* Pots & pans, cooking utensils, bake-ware
* Appliances: juicer, food processor and rice cooker/vegetable steamer
* Teas, coffee, French press coffee maker & coffee grinder
* Selection of spices, condiments and staples
(Don’t forget to stop in Anacortes at the grocery store before boarding the ferry; the small island store has limited supplies.)
DINING
There is seating for 6 at the dining table plus 2 stools at the kitchen counter.
The Front Porch is a nice spot for morning coffee or a glass of wine in the early evening with a view of the water, sunset and surrounding trees.
On the Balcony, an outdoor bistro-style eating area is perfect for a tranquil al fresco meal while watching the eagles hunt at the shoreline or the chickadees at the bird-feeder, or try out the old-fashioned glider chair.
The Sun Deck offers a spacious area for outdoor meals.
BATHING
Two Bathrooms—each with a modern dual-flush toilet, sink, and showers with wide, adjustable shower-heads, and stocked with basic toiletries, towels, and hair dryer.
SAUNA
The traditional Swedish wood-fired cedar sauna is tucked behind the house in a private corner overlooking the woods, so bring your robe and slippers.
HEATING
To stay cozy and warm, the cabin is well-insulated and heated with a cozy, easy-to-operate gas fireplace and additional electric heaters in bathrooms and bedroom.
THINGS TO DO
We have Wi-Fi, binoculars, telescope, maps, magazines, coloring books, playing cards, magazines and a library of local interest books (non-fiction, northwest literature, nature guides, travel writing, historical accounts, island fiction, local authors, and children’s literature) plus toys, games, and puzzles for people of all ages. Or, roll out a yoga mat for a good stretch while contemplating the view.
OUTDOORS
There are three decks from which to enjoy the woodsy outdoors, take meals or drinks, sunbathe, watch boats, relax, or watch the wildlife and incredible sunsets.
Set up the telescope to stargaze or scan the distant view.
Relax in a recliner chair for sun-bathing.
Walk the trails around the cabin and hunt for outdoor art.
WORKING
The Office upstairs in the Loft offers a comfortable chair, desk, and lamp at which to work/study/write/relax while taking in the spectacular views from a higher vantage point with none of the noise and distractions of working in the city.
