Train Wreck Inn: Stay in the Caboose
The Yellow Caboose is a highlight at the Train Wreck Inn - a retro train motel in Grand Coteau, LA! Vibrancy and efficiency make this unique stay on a retired caboose unforgettable.
Inspired by filmmaker Wes Anderson’s infamous color palettes, this space is complete with a record player, antique glassware, and a custom kitchen. Enjoy our courtyard’s hammock and seating areas, or take a stroll to the cafe and shops. The Yellow Caboose is ready to take you on your next adventure in style.
Located in the center of the quaint town of Grand Coteau, the Train Wreck Inn is the perfect spot to rest your head.
This classy little caboose makes you want to kick back with tea or a cocktail on the velvety couch to listen to an old record spinning. The bedroom is cozy and sweet, with a colorful nature themed mural behind the bed. Be sure to notice the caboose's authentic radio communication instructions on the wall too!
Mingle in the beautifully landscaped courtyard or hop in the hammock for some quiet reading time in the shade. We have multiple seating areas to enjoy a meal or beverage outside. Take a stroll next door to the cafe or an antique shop. We love the slow roll of our town and can't wait to host you!
Guest access:
The courtyard is open to all guests to enjoy.
Parking for one vehicle per VRBO is available on site on Chatrian St, with additional public street parking on the front side of the motel (on Martin Luther King Dr.)
Other things to note
Our spaces are very old, compact and efficient, and we love that about them! Choices for layout and items on board were made based upon this. A few quick notes:
- Your custom bathroom is a beautiful European style wet bathroom, meaning the shower, toilet and sink are all in one sleek, tiled space. See photos for reference.
- TVs are available upon request - just let us know when you book. (Having no TVs is part of our style choice, but we’re happy to accommodate and want you to be cozy!)
- Keep in mind the Train Wreck Inn is composed of spaces that are old and quirky. We take pride in their condition and cleanliness, but note that they are actual pieces of history / not brand new.
- Kitchens are custom built and fully stocked. We provide an electric kettle and French press + local coffee and tea. (Instructions to use French press and electric stove are included in your Check In Guide. There is also an electric coffee pot in the cabinet if you prefer.)
- Bringing kiddos? We are happy to provide an air bed, travel crib, highchair and/or some toys if needed!
