Toad Hall 1820s Historic Estate
Toad Hall, a spacious 1820s stone mansion, boasts 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 21st century amenities. Its Greek Revival style is meticulously preserved, adorned with sculptures and art that embellish the interior. Situated on over 260 pastoral acres, the home is nestled in the heart of one of the most picturesque landscapes in the country, mere moments from Cooperstown. It's rich history is evident through its art and hand painted murals, creating a grand and intimate atmosphere in each room. Colonel Russell William built the house in 1828, designed by Englishman Edward Tillinghast during the nation’s optimism and prosperity after defeating the British in the War of 1812. President John Quincy Adams presided over the 24 states in the Union. The estate’s owner is a descendant of Hall of Fame inductee ‘Big Dan’ Brouthers, a renowned baseball long-ball hitter (1879-1904). Within the confines of the residence, a harmonious blend of period architecture and meticulously curated design unfolds. Original stonework and hand-painted artwork adorn the walls, instilling an unparalleled ambiance that is both grand and intimate. Throughout the mansion, thoughtfully positioned sculptures and art pieces contribute to the narrative of each room, weaving a visual tapestry that unfolds with every exploration. Each detail has been meticulously crafted to preserve the home’s unique history while simultaneously providing contemporary conveniences and privacy. From the property, enjoy breakfast on the veranda, leisurely walks or runs along Oaks Creek, and wildlife viewing in the pond, beaver dams, deer grazing, and eagles soaring above. Swim in the Mountain View seasonal salt water pool or fish in the lake. The property also inspires landscape and wildlife painting and photography. Toad Hall is a private residence for your exclusive use. However, it is important to note that the estate also includes other houses and horse stables, which are private. Please exercise caution when approaching any animals on the property. The outdoor spaces, including the backyard patio, fire pits, seating areas, and grills, are shared among Toad Hall, Toad Hall Carriage House (vrbo id # 4819675), and 6418 Cottage (vrbo id #4819673) - why not book all three properties. Similarly, the ponds, trails, and fields are accessible to all guests. When booked together, these amenities offer a memorable group experience. The estate’s maintenance staff ensures that the grounds are maintained in optimal condition. The estate’s owner will be available to greet guests and provide a tour of the vast property. Rest assured that both the staff and the owner will not intrude upon your stay.

Toad Mansión was excellent! Accommodated the six of us for the HOF ceremony perfectly. The location is very convenient to town. The pool came in handy to battle the heat. AnnBritt the host was excellent! Even provided fresh eggs and steaks! Definitely when return, will stay there again.

The property is out of a fairy tale! It is beautiful. We walked all over and my kids were in heaven. The home is old but clean and has so much historical character. The host lives on property and was so helpful and kind. It made our Cooperstown baseball experience even better. 12 min to Dreams Park. It was a great stay!

It was all fine very charming. I told the host that I thought they needed to install a handrail to get up the steps, one could easily fall. I also mentioned they should put some handicap bars in the showers. Ok ther than that the place was great.

We stayed with three small families for Cooperstown Dreams Park. The beds and bathrooms were clean and comfy. It was a ten minute drive to the field and close to everything. There is also a cottage next door another family could rent if you wanted to stay with another team family. The pool and the grill were added bonuses. It is an older, historic house and has a lot of character. We loved the large dining room table for meals and the washer / dryer. The host was very accommodating.

Toad Hall was amazing, and Annbrit was a fabulous host. I stayed there with my 2 boys (ages 10 & 8), along with my parents and my in-laws while my other son and husband were in the barracks. The two ensuite Queen rooms were huge and provided plenty of privacy for the grandparents. My boys loved the nook their bed was in, and everyone agreed the beds and bedding were very comfortable. The AC worked very well upstairs, which I appreciate for sleeping. Annbrit was so responsive and helpful both before and during our stay. My kids loved the chickens and the fresh eggs! The pond for fishing provided hours of entertainment, and all of the walking paths were absolutely lovely. I truly can’t believe how beautiful the entire property is. We had everything we needed in the house, and the proximity to both Dreams Park and Cooperstown can’t be beat. The rental property is technically connected to Annbrit’s residence, but the breezeway between them was closed off, meaning I never felt like we lacked privacy. This was a truly special property and absolutely contributed to us having a wonderful Cooperstown experience!

Stayed for a week at Toad Hall 1820s Estate with three generations of my family to accompany our son participating at Cooperstown Dreams Park Baseball tournament. The home is historic, comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix of antique artwork and statuary inside and out. At 200 years old, the home retains a lot of character and has been updated with modern comforts such as central air conditioning, updated bathrooms and kitchen appliances. It has ample space to spread out for a group of 8 both inside and outside. The expansive grounds with the pretty in-ground pool, architectural gardens blended with nature - two large ponds that one can fish in if one wishes, hiking around the 200 acres of property with bucolic views of horses in the pasture and free range hens make for an idyllic setting to relax and just be present. The owner/host, AnnBritt, who lives on the property is responsive in our communication, gracious and informative. Toad Hall is a 2 minute drive down the road from Fly Creek Cider Mill which has delicious eats, a large country store with local items to take home as gifts and an awesome tasting room on the second level offering ciders, wine and beers. The home is a 12 minute drive to Dreams Park and a 10 minute drive to the village of Cooperstown for a variety of dining options, the Baseball Hall of Fame and a cruise on Otsego Lake. Ommegang Brewery is a 15 minute drive from the home for local brews. A terrific stay. Thank you!

The house was HOT! The ac worked but not very well. The AC does not cool the first floor. It stayed between 76 and 79. The AC on the second floor isn’t cold but it’s bearable. The kitchen was not stocked with essentials for a family who would be cooking. Inadequate kitchen supplies and the pots and pans are not suitable for cooking for more than 4 people The outdoor eating area could not be used because of chicken poop all over the tables and chairs. In order to get to the pool, pond and outdoor eating area you had to step around chicken and dog poop. The outdoor patio is filthy and covered in chicken poop. The pool and outdoor patio is about 60 yards from the house. You can’t see either from the house. The homeowner lives in another house on the property and watches your every move. We had my family of 7 with 3 cars and she questioned if we were having a party. The posted rules are not the same as what was on the website. The pool and patio is not visible from the house. You have to walk about 400 feet to the pool.

Thank you so much for your comments. All our reviews to date have been near perfect so I will address your comments point by point. First, sorry to hear that you were hot. The house has a thermostat upstairs and downstairs. The morning you left upstairs was 67 and downstairs 68. Not sure what went wrong when you were here and you did not contact us for help. As for the chickens my apologies, most families love them, the kids spend hours chasing them and go into the coop and collect the eggs. I hope you enjoyed yours. Having the pool separated from the house (50 yards) is common on an historic estate of 260 acres. It's not a hotel, but we apologize for the inconvenience. I live in the owners quarters as the onsite property manager to tend to everyones needs, respond to visitor requests or issues that arise, water the plants, take care of the garbage, meet and greet people and so on. As for the 'party' that was a misunderstanding. When a car was blocking the driveway I asked if you were having guests. That meant we would have to find another place to park the car so people could get in and out. As for the utensils, pots and pans well this is up for debate. We have had many more folks in the house and when they needed something they simply asked. Not sure about the posted rules not being the same as the website. I am sorry the home did not meet your expectations. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

We had a wonderful time at Toad Hall. We stayed for a week while our son was playing at Cooperstown Dreams Park. It takes 10 min to get there from the house. The house was beautiful, clean and a beautifully curated 200 year old home. It was such a unique home to stay in! Plenty of space. The grounds were beautiful. Our kids loved the pool and chickens! The owner was wonderful and extremely responsive and gracious. We had a wonderful visit and vacation. Thank you for a memorable week! We highly recommend this wonderful home!
