Historic Steiner log cabin on Mt Hood
Step inside this magical 1930 Henry Steiner cabin and feel time slow down. The warm glow of the hand-peeled logs, the split-log staircase with curving branch rails, and the cabin’s distinctive Steiner craftsmanship create an atmosphere unique to Oregon’s most celebrated historic cabins.
The stone fireplace with wood-burning stove is the heart of the cabin—perfect for curling up with a blanket, a good book, or simply listening to the rain. Above, the vaulted ceiling with crisscross log beams gives the space a true lodge-like feel.
The main bedroom is irresistibly cozy, featuring a queen bed with a new memory foam mattress and charming vintage details everywhere you look: rustic light fixtures, hand-made log shelving, a custom log mirror, and Steiner’s whimsical “snack door” into the kitchen.
The upstairs loft holds two twin beds beneath a playful constellation of Edison-style bulbs—ideal for families with older children or friends who appreciate the nostalgia of a classic cabin loft.
The bright farmhouse-style kitchen blends vintage charm with modern convenience. Whitewashed shiplap walls, a breakfast nook, and a solid redwood countertop echo the 1930s heritage, while new appliances—stove, fridge, microwave, and dishwasher—make cooking simple and enjoyable.
The restored bathroom features the original clawfoot tub with reproduction shower hardware, plus a vessel sink set on a handcrafted redwood counter. It’s a warm, inviting space to unwind after a day of exploring.
Throughout the cabin, you’ll find thoughtful touches: local wildflower art, hand-made rustic furniture, and vintage décor that honors the cabin’s roots.
Outside, the cabin sits on a wooded third of an acre surrounded by towering fir and cedar trees. You’ll feel tucked away in nature while still being close enough to neighboring cabins to feel safe and conveniently close to all the amenities of the mountain community.
The cabin may get some snow in the winter, but is accessible year-round.
Parking is available on property.
Historic Stairs
The stairs are hand-carved from logs by Henry Steiner in 1930--as such they are not to modern proportions and are slightly narrow, irregular, and uneven. Please keep this in mind and be careful with your footing. Not recommended for anyone with mobility concerns. Guests assume their own risk.
Seclusion / Expectations
Located on a gravel loop road in a quiet neighborhood, the property is just off of Highway 26 and some slight highway noise may be heard during certain times of day. Guests may see other neighbors walking dogs, or driving down the road. However, the cabin is on private property and screened by large trees. You won’t have to worry about being too remote, isolated, or getting stranded.
