This rental is a studio apartment located in a separate wing of a 10,000 sf Mediterranean style stucco residence on 6 private acres with 500 ft of frontage along the Merrimack River.
A spacious and bright 500 sf room with it's own entrance and parking. It has it's own adjoining fully tiled bathroom, queen size bed, full futon, pull out sleeper couch, 30 inch flat screen TV and wifi internet access, office desk, cozy working fireplace, 9-foot ceilings, hardwood floor, air-conditioning, baseboard heating, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot water kettle, toaster dishes/cups/cutlery for 4, dining table.
Tastefully decorated with an African Safari theme.
Mudroom entrance with bench and coat rack.
Currently taking minimum bookings for 14+ nights. Please inquire.
Additional rooms or even the whole house available.

Great Location

We stayed here for two weeks while visiting our daughter and her husband who live in Newburyport. We found it so convenient to their house and also to I-95. The house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac so there is no traffic. We found it very peaceful. Although the owners were away, John was very kind and accommodating. Thank you so much!

VRBO in West Newbury, Massachusetts

The lodging is a very impressive and comfortable home built in the mid-1900's, situated on some four to five acres of lawns and forest, and on the shores of the Merrimack River, a major waterway in northeastern Massachusetts. And the innkeepers, man and wife, are delightful. I, and my friend, were made to feel very welcome from the outset. I would not hesitate to recommend this VRBO.

the property is a good place for an extended stay for professionals who need good access to NE Boston area. Finding any suitable place to stay is a very large challenge in NE Mass and this is a viable option for those who will most of their time working.

I highly recommend this property.

Reini and Colin are the perfect hosts. They make every effort to provide what is needed for an enjoyable stay. The studio was spotless and very comfortable. The location was fantastic - there was even a farm stand with fresh fruits, veg and flowers down the road. My dog loved the walks around the area also.

Beautiful Spot On the River

We had a six week stay with Colin and Raini as we were waiting for our new home purchase to go through. The studio was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Our hosts were very friendly and welcomed us into their home as if we were family.

Nice house with impressive river view and really nice hosts

We had access to most of the huge second floor of the house and kitchen privileges with bay window breakfast dining overlooking the river. The entry to the house is quite grand, white carpets included. We didn't see much of Colin, but Reini greeted us, shared a bit of the family history and thanked us we departed. All considered, a nice stay in a very convenient location for visiting family in the area and for sightseeing. Lee & Pat, Oklahoma

Very accommodating hosts

The property is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac right next to the Merrimack River with beautiful view of the river and wonderfully decorated guest room. We appreciated the accommdations the Hodgsons provided to make our brief stay memorable. My wife especially enjoyed the conversations with Mrs. Hidgson on trips to various countries. Highly recommended for other interested guests.

Relaxing, very accomodating and private

I absolutely enjoyed my stay this past week. i also had my grandson spend a couple of nights with me, it was perfect. It is also a beautiful, quite and a peaceful setting. I hope to be back some day.

Great Stay!

Beautiful property, very comfortable room

We were there to spend some time at Plum Island and Newburyport. Property was just a few miles away. Accommodations were perfect. Room spacious and had everything we needed! Hosts were friendly, was nice we got a chance to chat! Thank you so much!

Could not ask for a nicer place or better hosts!

So relaxing and secluded, yet close to everything! We went up for a road race and they had nice cut up watermelon waiting for us when we returned, so thoughtful! Beautiful porch to sit on and let all your cares drain away. The room was equipped with everything you would need, but if there was anything, Raini would help you out! Definitely going back!

Great location.

The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Boston is an easy train ride away. New Hampshire and southern Maine are also an easy drive from the property.

Best Place to Stay

We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful, elegant, and comfortable home. The hosts Raini and Colin could not have been any nicer. They were hospitable, friendly, and very accommodating. We were a group of 9 and this was the perfect place to stay to accommodate that many people. We would definitely stay here again.

Was a great place and owners were very accommodating. Only difficulty for older renters was a couple of stairs to the bathroom and the need for a handicap bar in the shower.

Beautiful, relaxing stay!

Colin and Reini's Safari Room is comfortable, spacious, and immaculate. They are very friendly and accessible hosts, and did everything possible to make our stay relaxing. The weather the weekend we stayed was not great, but it didn't matter because we were so comfortable in our room. The only suggestion I might make is to have some more information in the room about local restaurants and places to go in Newburyport. But when we did have questions about that, we were able to get them answered with no problem. Reini also went out of her way to redo the heat for us so that we would be more comfortable. A great place to stay!

Interesting and different

This rental is like a modern large studio apartment, with a fun safari theme. Everything is there for entertainment (nice TV, WiFi, comfortable couch). In a cupboard to one side the owners have provided a coffee machine, small refrigerator, and dishes, although to do any real cooking you would need to use their (beautiful) kitchen, which is down a hall, so take-out is a better option here. The two of us (friends) were very comfortable and the hosts were personable and interesting. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bathroom upscale. My dog was also happy; there is plenty of land to walk around and no traffic because it is a cul-de-sac. A possible issue to consider is that the bathroom is up a flight of 3 steep steps and then down the hall...it was the steps that bothered me because I am a senior. Also, despite the pictures, you do not get any view of the river. Overall, this is a charming rental and good value.

Fabulous home, great hosts!

Colin and Rini were the most welcoming, friendly, and generous hosts ever! The house is fabulous, designed in a wonderful African motif that is a delight to behold. Huge porch and property along the Merrimac River, great for relaxing! I will come back!

Excellent accomodation

This property was wonderful, out of the way but convenient to the beach and the city. Quiet, clean and comfortable the studio was so much nicer and homier than a hotel room. Reini and Colin are very hospitable and welcoming in their very interesting home. Will definitely stay again should the occasion arise. EM

Beautiful home with ample outdoor space; wonderful hosts who truly went above and beyond

My husband, puppy, and I stayed in the safari room for a weekend while attending a wedding, and we couldn't have been happier. The place was well-decorated with a fun safari theme and we had plenty of space for the three of us. Colin and Reini were so thoughtful and paid attention to little details like stocking the fridge with a few drinks. Colin was friendly, thorough, and quick to respond to all of my questions leading up to our stay. In person, I mostly interacted with Reini and she was so lovely to chat with - and she took fantastic care of our dog while we were at the wedding. The large fenced in yard was a great perk too. This is my favorite VRBO experience by far, and if we ever make it up to West Newbury again, we'll definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous stay! Beautiful accompdations!! We shall return!!!

What a wonderful stay with Colin and Rienne! The accompdations were beautiful as well as the hospitality! They were a real source of information and the place is fully stocked with everything you need. This beautiful home overlooks the Merrimack River. Our visit was much too short! We shall certainly return !!

Exceptional Experience

My son Austin and I greatly enjoyed our stay. Colin and Reini --as others have commented on --are extremely gracious hosts. They were very accommodating and friendly but not intrusive. The actual studio apartment was plenty big for both my son and I. It was very clean and neat. The property that the home sits on is expansive and peaceful. You can walk down to the river. It's close to I-95, local shopping, and downtown Newburyport. We will be in Newburyport again next summer and I already let Reini know we will be putting early dibs on reserving the studio again next year. Thanks Colin and Reini for being first class people and thanks for your first class accommodations.

Great place! Great location! Great hosts!

Our engagement vacation was made ever-so-much better by our wonderful hosts - Colin and Reini - and the lovely, comfortable and convenient space they provided us in their home. Not even 10 minutes from downtown Newburyport (and the house I grew up in), the home is tucked away in a cul-de-sac at the end of a very quiet street. The studio apartment is huge, with plenty of room to sleep six, so the two of us weren't tripping over each other. The apartment has all the amenities (and more are forthcoming according to handyman Colin) and it was the first time I've ever stayed someplace where I had no trouble sleeping on the first night in a new bed. We were within minutes of just about everything, including I-95 and Route 1, and a shopping center for all our needs. Thank you so much Colin and Reini! Usually, toward the end of a vacation, you feel like "Okay, we're ready to go home now." This was definitely not the case this time around. Not only did we not want to leave, but we pre-planned to come back in the Spring after our wedding. The Hodgson House is our go-to location whenever we go to New England from now on.
