For those who like to participate in the King Salmon "run" in late summer or fall, enjoy staying right at the mouth of the Salmon River, in a comfortable, completely renovated cottage on the River's bank, located right in the heart of the action at the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina. Lake Ontario is nearly on your doorstep where you can watch the charter boat fishing fleet get underway for the deep waters of the Lake in summer and fishing boats pursuing Salmon closer to the Lake's shoreline in the fall. In the river, right in front of you in August, September and early October, you can see Salmon surfacing and jumping as they run up the River to spawn. Some days are windy, some are calm, many are sunny and some are brisk, but a stay at the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina will immerse you into the entire experience. In April, May and June, the action begins with Brown or Lake Trout with small mouth bass also present. No matter what the month, or the mix of weather, the fishing is always great, and you will love being on the River, near the Lake with its private sandy beaches, enjoying the many faces and ever-changing moods of Lake Ontario. The cottage has a well-appointed and comfortable living room and as does the dining room and fully-equipped kitchen, it has a beautiful view of the river. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The 2 bedrooms will sleep as many as 6 total, with a double bed and a twin bed in each bedroom (4 beds total). Boat slips are available at a discounted rate if you choose to bring your own boat, with a new (2015) boat launch ramp available on-site at the Marina. Canoes and kayaks are also available for rent. But you don't need to be a fisherman to enjoy the full experience at the mouth of the Salmon River. The beach and river are breathtaking and beautiful all season long, and are a romantic spot to enjoy while watching all that is happening on, in and around the River. If you are ready to enjoy a fishing vacation, what better place to stay - right in the middle of all the action the Salmon River and Lake Ontario have to offer....

Great cottage.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cozy cottage! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how clean and well-maintained the property was. The cottage is on the Salmon River near Lake Ontario. Very quiet location yet close enough to all the amenities of town. The interior was beautifully decorated with a charming, rustic feel, yet had all the modern amenities we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and utensils, making it easy to prepare meals. We especially loved the comfortable living room, where we could relax, watch TV or read after a long day of fishing. The outdoor space was a real bonus for us. Private docks offered an opportunity to fish for king salmon right outside our door. The property is located within the Salmon River Lighthouse Marina which has a great covered pavilion where you can enjoy the view of the river, play cornhole, talk with other fishermen while preparing a meal on the outdoor gas grills. Communication with the property managers, Christian and Abby was seamless. They were responsive, provided us detailed check in instructions and gave us lots of information on fishing charter boat opportunities. We highly recommend this location and we can’t wait to return next year.

Great Spot

Just what we were looking for. Owners/Managers were friendly, courteous, accommodating, and attentive. Rented to watch the eclipse and it couldn't have worked out better. Got a great view of the eclipse (in spite of the clouds) and some spectacular sunsets as a bonus!

Great place to stay

The cottage was much bigger in person than we were expecting. Very clean and charming. Had everything we needed. Would recommend and stay here again. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Went fishing off the dock and caught some fish! Thank you to the owners for sharing the cabin, we loved staying here!

Nice waterfront cottage

If you want close to water and charter boats, this is the place. The cottage has basic amenities and is reasonably comfortable. Owners are very accessible and provided additional household items upon request. Access to Lake Ontario and Salmon River is great. The listing is a bit ambiguous in that it says boat rentals are available at the marina. We thought that would include fishing boats but it does not, only kayaks and canoes. Make other arrangements for fishing/recreation boats.

Great Location!!

The cottage itself is true to its pictures. It is a basic, minimalist cottage. The beds were comfortable and all the necessities stocked. The location is perfect for the casual kayaker who enjoys bird and wildlife watching, beachcomber, and fisherman. Many private fishing charters leave every morning before dawn from the pier at your waterfront. The Selkirk Lighthouse is nextdoor and beautiful to look at :)

Great hosts, always able to connect if questions or Have a need. Abe and Kathy have thought of pretty much everything, we even met their extended family! Clean beach, beautiful harbor, easy to get around the area.

A relaxing stay in a great location

Enjoyed a great weekend at the Blue Cottage, whether lounging on the huge front yard with good privacy, or relaxing in the living room at night. The chalet was well equipped, the bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Everything was well looked after. We will definitely come back again and recommend to friends & family. Abe and Kathy were great hosts, very helpful and accommodating. They took us across the river and back by boat so that we could access their very own private beach on the lake. And no question was too trivial for them to answer. They definitely enjoy interacting with guests and we could tell that they love what they do. It was also a great location, a short drive to the falls and hatchery which were well worth the visit. While it would have been a plus if the cottage were on the waterfront with a view of the river or lake, it was all the same a very enjoyable weekend overall. Thanks for a great stay Kathy and Abe!

Awesome Getaway

My husband and I only got to stay for a few days, we wish it could've been longer. We had an amazing time! It was only a 3 hour drive for us, but it felt like we were a million miles away. The place is so nice and quiet, very secluded. The sunsets just across the water at the beach were amazing! The fishing was great (and I don't normally fish), but it was fantastic. Abe and Kathy were wonderful! By the time we left, we felt like family and needless to say, we left a deposit with them to make sure we can secure a cabin for next year! Thank you for everything Abe and Kathy, we'll see you next summer. Tori

A great escape...

My husband had stayed here with his family when he was growing up, late 60's early 70's. We stayed at the lighthouse about 13 years ago and wanted to go up again. This time we stayed in the waterfront cottage and couldn't be happier with the accommodations, cleanliness, outside proximity to the water (about 30 feet away!) and beautiful sunsets. Windy the first couple days but the remaining were sunny skies, warm, water was calm and beautiful. These new owners know what they're doing and will do anything to assist in your stay being perfect. Thanks Abe for your assistance in getting our boat in and out. We already booked again for same week next year. Highly recommend.

This was the first vacation my family and I have taken in almost 7 years. We stayed in the waterfront cottage and it was the most relaxation we have had in years. You can't beat the sunsets in the evening over the lake and the sound of the waves in the distance on the break wall. The spot is beautiful, if you like to fish you can fish from the private docks and my son had a blast catching all kinds of fish. The cottage is very nice and homey and we had everything we needed to just go and enjoy ourselves. The owners Abe and Kathy made sure everything was up to our standards and it definitely was. We will be back and I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to enjoy themselves and relax. There is also an amazing charter boat Good Time Fishing Charters with Captain George if you would like to catch some monster fish on Lake Ontario.

Great Spot!

The other reviews are right on. Abe and Kathy are great hosts. We didn't fish but we paddle boarded, kayaked, watched beautiful sunsets, BBQ'd and agree, this is a slice of paradise.

I stayed in the cabin on the waterfront and was highly impressed with the work Abe the owner did on the cabin.I highly recommend this cabin if you are going to fish for salmon in lake Ontario. The slip we had was perfect for our 26 foot boat. Abe and his staff were friendly and informative about the area, I will be back.

Salmon Fisherman

We rented the cabin and a slip for 7 nights. The new owners were very courteous and attentive. The cabin was very clean when we arrived, and we were treated to new appliances and all new beds. The slip location was very convenient, and easy to get to. I am looking forward to renting this one again next year.

The 'brothers-in-law' (Mike & Abe) welcome you to join us, as our extended family has been enjoying the Salmon River Point since the 1930s, and we now have many family members and close family friends who own summer homes on the Point and further up the river along Pine Grove Road. Having grown up at the lake, enjoying the fishing, water sports, restful days in the sun and sand, marveling at the way the wind, waves and lake storms can entertain you, with rainy days spent working a jigsaw puzzle or reading a novel while enjoying views of the lake being some of our most memorable times. Or getting to stay up late roasting marshmallows over a beach fire, followed the next morning by a pancake breakfast after returning from fishing with our parents. Small mouth bass and yellow perch fishing used to be the focus of our angling efforts, and those catches are arguably still the best tasting. But in the 1970s, the Salmon fishery developed and since then, Brown Trout can be caught in abundance along the lake shore as the water warms in May and June. The fishing charters run all summer long out to the deep waters of the lake, many departing directly from the Salmon River Marina right at the mouth of the river. In the fall, the fishing gets especially active in the river, as the salmon migrate to run upstream. Year after year, our families and friends have enjoyed this special place and all that it has to offer. In 2014 we purchased and restored the circa 1838 Selkirk Lighthouse, a historic treasure that was built nearly 200 years ago. With major renovations of the Lighthouse, the Marina and the 3 cottages completed, we now share this incredible place with others who can appreciate the history and special nature of the Salmon River (Selkirk) Lighthouse & Marina property and what it is to experience staying there. It is our hope that past guests will return with families and friends, time and time again, year after year.

The Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it stands as it has for 184 years at the mouth of the Salmon River, shining its light out across the Salmon River and Lake Ontario every night to provide guidance and safe travel to approaching mariners. In the shadows of the Lighthouse are three (3) completely renovated and comfortable single-family cottages, with this "Waterfront Cottage" right on the bank of the River at the north end of the Marina. Directly across the River, accessible by rental kayak or canoe or by POV parking space availability-dependent, is a beautiful NYS Park lakeshore beach, bordered by a rock breakwater protecting the entrance to the harbor. It was the pier construction in the 1990's that created what is now a beautiful, sandy (very unusual for Lake Ontario) and private beach area we own contiguous to the NYS land. The sandy lake bottom makes the shoreline perfect for beach walks and swimming, with no undertow on calm water days, and being fresh water, there are no jellyfish or other saltwater negatives. Enjoy refreshing onshore breezes off the Lake during the day and offshore breezes at night. Lake Ontario will entertain young and old alike as it roars on windy days, making it feel like you are at the ocean (without the saltwater!), with a blazing, stunning sunset over the water quite likely to end your day. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation or a Salmon or Trout fishing adventure while having some time away from a hectic routine, then you have found one of the best locations in New York state to do just that. The Waterfront Cottage is cozy and comfortable, in a perfect location right on the River, providing a wonderful getaway for fishing with the kids, or enjoying quiet, tranquil time connecting with its natural surroundings. For fall fishermen who want to maximize their enjoyment of Lake Ontario and the Salmon River when they are not actually out on the water, there is no finer place.
