Beautiful End of the Road Cabin on Top of Ridge - Pet Friendly

This quiet and secluded sun-filled cabin, the former home of German actor Klaus Kinski, is set at the end of a dirt road high on a ridgetop between the San Geronimo Valley and Nicasio. Nestled in a grove of towering redwood and Douglas fir trees, bordering Samuel P. Taylor State Park, and a half-mile from the closest house, it offers breathtaking views of Mount Tamalpais and San Geronimo Ridge to the south and Bolinas Ridge to the west. The cabin boasts a wood stove set in a large stone fireplace for relaxing evenings and romance. A queen bed is at the top of a spiral staircase in a loft overlooking the living area. Hiking and mountain biking trails leave right from the front door. Its location between Central Marin and the Point Reyes National Seashore makes it easy to take advantage of all that Marin County has to offer while affording guests unparalleled privacy.

There is a long, bumpy dirt road to the cabin that currently requires 4WD or AWD.

Wonderful stay

We love this cabin! This was my second time here and my partner and I had a wonderful time getting away from the city. Elizabeth is responsive via text and the place was clean and beautiful. Will definitely be back (again).

NEW YEARS GETAWAY

We had an amazing time staying at the cabin over New Years. It is very remote yet only a few minutes to the main highway. Could not have asked for a better getaway. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to staying there again.

We love to get tucked away at the cabin

This is our 3rd visit to the Kinsky Cabin and we simply love it. We have recommended it to friends and family. It is located near town amenities but in the middle of nowhere.

Great Get Away in Rustic Cabin

Cool mountain retreat in rustic cabin. Great trails adjacent to property for hiking and walking. It was truly beautiful, restful and quiet. There was really no internet, so we read and mostly just chilled. It is located close to lots of hiking and fun areas to explore.

Magical

One of the more unique properties we've had the pleasure to stay at. It was a perfect, pet friendly get away. Steps away from private hiking trails where we were able to comfortably walk our dogs off leash without seeing another soul. Our favorite and more memorable part will be hitting the trail at 7:30 AM amidst the morning fog in the trees. Thank you for allowing us to stay at this gem.

Absolutely loved this cabin!

We absolutely loved this cabin. Getting to it was a bit of an adventure but Liz's detailed directions made it so much easier. The cabin itself is delightful with beautiful details. The main door itself is a work of art. The decor is lovely, with (like others have said) an amazing selection of books. The back deck overlooks amazing trees and scenery. The bed is comfortable and the linens are perfect. Liz is great at communicating and was very thoughtful. Can't wait to go back again!

Amazing cabin at the top of the mountain!

This cabin is the perfect get away! Just an hour from home but it felt like a million miles away. So charming. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy bed. Could have spent the entire day sitting on the deck looking at the valley but it was also a really quick drive to Pt Reyes. Our dog loved being there too. Liz is a great host. THANK YOU we hope to come again!

Beautiful place & accommodating host!

Truly a beautiful cabin — great views, well-situated, and well-designed. We stayed during a rainy wintry stretch and found the cabin cozy with a fire going. Close to Point Reyes annd Samuel P. Taylor, and appreciated having trail access literally out the front door! The cabin is also well-appointed with kitchen supplies, reading materials, and games. Liz was incredibly accommodating, offering to meet us to guide us to the cabin and offering a refund if the weather wasn’t to our liking. As a final note, as the listing notes, the road to the cabin is a little rough. We found it drivable even after rain in a compact SUV with AWD.

lovely secluded cabin high on a ridge

This sweet cabin is located right smack in the middle of the most beautiful, most magical area on the planet. Without a single man-made object to mar the vista of receding forested ridges, it's in absolutely the most private and secluded spot you can imagine. It is a great spot to witness the drama of the Bay Area's summer weather, as fog advances in the late afternoon, overtops the hills and pours into the valleys far below. A long, narrow, twisting and, in spots, very steep road ascends from the quotidian world below to the cabin above, then turns into a private-property hiking trail through dense forest and shadowy groves of redwood, where other human beings are unlikely to be encountered. All around, tall trees shade the cabin and keep it cool during the day. The kitchen is well equipped and the bookshelf is filled with such interesting books i really felt i needed to hang around for a few additional months to do some reading. For your more technologically advanced media, use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot and you will have perfectly good wifi. My daughter was able to teach several piano lessons to via video conference on Zoom with no problems at all. Liz, the owner, who lives a ways down the hill in Lagunitas, is very good at being a vacation property owner: her approach is relaxed and hands-off, but she's immediately responsive and helpful when you need her. We had a wonderful, too-short time in this extraordinary home. I'm looking forward to coming back, hopefully very soon. Actually, I kinda want to go back up there right now.

Ideal Cabin in the Woods

I love the iconic architecture and idyllic setting of this gorgeous property. Liz and Chuck were attentive and kind, and we will definitely stay there again.

Beautiful quaint cabin, very clean, and very responsive host. No wifi, so I had to bring a mobile hotspot, but other than that everything was lovely.

An honest-to-god cabin in the woods.

This listing might seem almost too good, and naturally one assumes there to be a catch of some sort. But there isn't: this is the real thing: a genuinely beautiful, original cabin, in a forest, with complete privacy and a lot of space to hike & explore: outside the cabin there is a path that leads into beautiful wooded hills where you can explore in what seems near-total seclusion. As well, 10 minutes down the hill there is a cozy & authentic Indian restaurant (called Arti). Whole-heartedly recommended.

Weekend Getaway

Everything was well done. The property is very clean and well equipped. The description of a rustic cabin in the woods is accurate. The path from the car to cabin is around 250 feet. There was a wheelbarrow to carry the luggage so not a problem. The host is very responsive.

Magically beautiful!

What a wonderful location! The cabin is clean, cozy, and has everything needed for a quiet and restorative getaway. Waking to views of fog in the treetops below, enjoying breakfast in the sunshine on the deck, and listening to the birds in such a quiet atmosphere was so very special.

Another wonderful stay

This was my second time staying at the cabin, and it was just as nice as the first time. The cabin it totally private, quiet, and peaceful with a great deck for reading in the sun. My dogs were thrilled with the hiking trails right out the front door, and we slept well on the comfortable bed. Thanks, Liz, for another great stay!

The cabin was exactly what I was looking for. Great warmth, amazing views, serene and totally secluded. I also appreciated the great CD and book collection. And you cannot beat the trials straight out your door.

Epic retreat into the redwoods

Amazing stay!! This beautiful log cabin is the perfect getaway from it all. Nestled on a ridge line, amongst the redwoods, it imbues peace & solitude and feels more fantastical than real. Liz is a courteous, professional and all around great host. Could ask for nothing more. Highly recommend!

Amazing Place

This is such a great cabin and property. You are in the middle of the forest with no houses in sight. Great view off the deck. Wood stove to enjoy having a fire at night. The road to get there isn't that bad and Liz gives great directions. I really enjoyed my stay and had a great time.
