The Maiden in Buxton: Oceanside & Steps from the Ocean!

Welcome to Buxton Cottage – The antithesis of modern day Hatteras Island. Come enjoy this 1950’s beach cottage fully renovated with all the modern amenities. This two bedroom, one bath getaway will cater to all your needs.

Relax at the heart of the island. Buxton is centrally located between all of the best spots to kiteboard, wind surf, fish, beach access, surf, paddleboard, walk, hike, and bike. Just a few minute's drive to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and beaches. You can walk to the Lighthouse beaches, and restaurants. Everything is within walking or biking distance.

Just 1.8 miles from one of the premier kiteboarding locations, Kite Point. Buxton Cottage is 10 lots in from the Atlantic Ocean. Walk to the ocean and enjoy your morning cup of coffee while watching the sunrise... Then, on a southwest wind day, enjoy 6.8 miles down winder from Kite Point to North Avon pull out. Or even further if you’d like! We are sure this beach cottage will meet all your getaway needs!

This is a triplex building (3 units) and The Maiden is located upstairs with a flight of stairs to the front door. The Maiden has two bedrooms, one bath, kitchen fully equipped, High Table with 2 chairs (see pics), TV, internet, Wi-Fi, all linens are provided (4 bath towels and each bed has 1 set of sheets), complimentary items such as one roll of toilet paper, coffee filters and trash bags. Puzzles, cards. Parking and outside seating on the balcony. It is perfect for 2-3 people. However, maximum number is 4. This unit does not have a washer / dryer.

IMPORTANT: Perfect for 2-3 people. Maximum occupancy of 4 people is strictly enforced. Buxton Cottage is NOT to be used for group events or gatherings. SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED. Failure to comply will result in eviction without a refund.

The property was OK save for unreliable wifi, which may have been event related. Linda tried hard but when you are in the middle of a Coastal Flooding Disaster and the property is surrounded by water and finally the fresh water is turned off it is hard to say the trip was anything but awful.

The home was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was stocked well enough for simple meals. I took off one star because the sofa which is an outdoor wicker set is really not that comfortable to be acting as an indoor sofa. Also, we were a family of 3 and could not eat together as a family because a bar height table and only 2 barstools supplied. It would have been better as a regular dining height table so that you can take the desk chair from the bedroom and use it as a 3rd chair. And honestly if you market as max 4 person then you should have 4 chairs available to eat altogether. Unfortunately, Hurricane Erin came 3 weeks before we got there and left no beach at the end of the street. Obviously this is out of the host’s control but disappointing nonetheless. Hopefully some of beach will come back.

We had a great stay ,the place is super clean and very nice Location is great we walked to eat every night and the beach is in sight. Linda is very responsive with any questions. Great trip.

Our short stay in Buxton was fantastic. "The Maiden" is in a great central location. It was easy to find, provided plenty of parking, and put us just steps from the ocean. The inside is just as pictured and very neat and tidy. The beds were comfortable, and there was adequate room in each bedroom to store clothing and personal items for a beach vacation. The kitchen is small but well stocked with everyday items and some basic needs (like paper towels, napkins, and coffee filters). You won't need anything more for vacation. I wish there were a small table-height dining table with real chairs instead of the bar stools and tall table, but it was manageable for the few nights we were there. The standup shower is a great size; you don't feel like you're in a phone booth while trying to clean off as you do in most shower stalls. As other guests stated, the sofa is not the most comfortable. It's definitely patio furniture, and all the pieces separate easily. It would be so easy to fix with zipties for the frame and velcro for the cushions. The outside shower was very handy to wash the sand off at the end of the day, and the outside storage for beach chairs and toys is ample. I would absolutely stay here again.

Perfect relaxation spot

Short walk to the beach and far enough from commercial area to not be bothered. Check out conners for groceries and uncle eddy for ice cream and putt putt. Public beach access a mile away is perfect for a night time fire.

The property is darling! It is bright and clean, small but cozy. I would not recommend it for more than 2 adults. The kitchen table is a high top square with 2 stools. The "couch" isn't appropriate. It is an outdoor plastic rataan sectional with outdoor appropriate cushioning. Incredibly uncomfortable and unstable. The sections kept splitting apart and the cushions kept falling off. No coffee table, only an ottoman for the sectional. We used a cookie sheet to set on top of it to hold our drinks while we relaxed in the evening. The kitchen utensils and accessories are SORELY lacking. Almost as if all utensils and accessories were an afterthought. Knife "set" was a hodge podge of dull and damaged cutlery. The dinnerware, glasses and cups were LOVELY! Bathroom was CUUUUTE! Good shower, but shower curtain was too short and water on the floor was a frequent problem. Did a great job of providing shelving and storage. Bedrooms were bright and spacious. However, the room I was in had an overwhelming odor of old urine during humid days. I had to spray Lysol pretty frequently. Porch furniture is dated, uncomfortable and weather worn and the rocking chair had a broken arm rest with exposed splintering wood. We remedied this by putting beach towels over the wood. Property could use some games and books for rainy days. Good location for walking beach AND neighborhoods/Buxton area. We had an incredible time on our vacation, but likely will use a different property next time.

Perfect bucket list accommodation

Linda was very responsive! The property is close to the beach. We walked for hours collecting shells. The property is a short walk to restaurants. The kitchen is has lots of utensils,plates,bowls, etc. There was salt and pepper but no other spices, foil or condiments. (Not a huge deal)The only draw or con was the rubber type mattress pads. They were very hot and extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. The beds themselves were very comfortable. One thousand percent would stay here again. Thank you, Linda.

Parents 40th Anniversary

Both of my parents had nothing but wonderful things to say about their trip - both the island and the rental. I was told that everything was incredibly clean and cozy and exactly as described/pictured. Would absolutely recommend.

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay on short notice. "The Maiden" fit the bill of being in a nice location and not breaking the bank. The place was clean. Furnishings weren't luxurious, but were plenty adequate for this price point. The owner communicated well. Overall, staying at the Maiden was a good experience. We'd stay here again.
