Heron House

Steps from the north branch of the Ausable River, the Heron House is well known for its wide stretches and scenic splendor, quality fly fishing and friendly surroundings.

The river running in front of the cottage has a rich history. A hundred years ago, the world's foremost titans of industry would fish here and relax in the meadows alongside these most famous Michigan waters.

The clean, classically decorated chalet offers a warm, and cozy feel. The large attached summer room and covered porch provide a great place to entertain if an afternoon shower comes calling and the propane grill is perfect for cookouts. Satellite TV, cell phone booster and internet wi-fi offer further remote conveniences.

The fishing is great in the day and throughout the evening and night. Gaylord, Grayling and Lewiston all offer great entertainment options and are within a half hour drive on paved country roads.

The Heron House Chalet is located less than a mile downstream from Lovells. Come and make memories!

Family trip

Great communication, we had to make changes and it was very easy. The place was great for what we needed, lots of fishing and relaxing. Very close to a store and bar/restaurant. Everything you need is there; all dishes, towels and bedding. Be sure to get firewood. The dock to the water is much older than photos show and has quite a bit of overgrown brush but still accessible.

Lovely Place for a Getaway

Weekend stay in Lovell

Perfect place for a weekend getaway. Located right on riverfront property so great if you like to fish. The host was very responsive and able to answer any questions. Grayling military base is located nearby so tov may hear some testing going on if they are doing any explosive drills.

Loved this place!

Great location, amazing hosts. Could not have felt more welcomed by our hosts or the neighbors. Beautiful property right on the Au Sable. Walked right out to great fishing and relaxed in a very comfortable home.

Happiness at the Heron House!

Property and home were as expected, from listing/photos. We loved the location and it's always so nice to be right on the water! We would recommend this property. Location and neighborhood was peaceful and enjoyable! Neighbors were even very friendly!

Exactly what we wanted. Rustic, streamside, relaxed, dog friendly. Hot sticky buns from down the road, terse comments from the fly shop (I’d expect nothing less), April mailed us a key we forgot. A+. Northern MI for the win!

Adequate but not as clean as I like.

Mattresses were comfortable but old food in the cupboards and personal effects in most dressers were not expected and prevented full use of the house. Felt the price we paid was a bit more than the value provided.

Well over priced

My wife and I have tried numerous different river front properties between Grayling and Mio area. This trip was a special occasion, so we decided to pay a higher price to get a nicer place, so we rented this house (Monday - Thursday no weekend days). The house turned out to be much less desirable than the much cheaper places we've been staying at. Based on the other rentals we've stayed at in the area, it's my opinion, this property is very over priced .

Trip to river for rest and relaxation.

Fantastic getaway on the Au Sable River

My wife and dog went up north with our friend over Memorial Weekend and we had a great time. Upon arrival we noticed the cabin was clean and smelled fresh. The check-in process was a breeze. The cabin had all the amenities we needed (blankets, towels, condiments, grill tools, etc.). Once we unpacked everything we explored the back yard and river. The property sits right on the Au Sable River and its amazing. Very serene and quiet. We met some of the neighbors and their dogs and everyone was super friendly. Our dog Booker made some friends this weekend. Throughout the day we saw some fly fisherman go down the river, which was interesting to watch. We walked down to the corner store for some supplies (10 min walk) and there was a pop up tent sale across the street. We chatted with the locals who were also friendly and made us feel welcomed. Overall we had a good time and I would highly recommend this location to anyone who wants that classic Up North feel. Thank you!

Vey relaxing!

Thank you Kerby and April for sharing your great river spot with us! My family and especially our fur babies really enjoyed our stay. The only thing we had issue with was no fault of yours. We had our dogs leashed up as requested but our neighbors upstream didn't have the same courtesy and had a visit from a very big German Sheppard, thankfully, there was no incidents.
