Beautiful peaceful bay on the Houghton Canal, great for any water sports, fishing, hunting or just taking in all the beauty the Keweenaw has to offer! There is a deck on each cabin, a deck by the water and a dock. All three cabins are fully equipped with linens, and kitchen ware, cable TV and wifi internet provided. For motor sports enthusiast, these cabins are located roughly 3.5 miles from the nearest trail crossing.

Quiet Cabin on the Canal

Enjoyed our stay to visit the area and drop of our Tech student. Lots of room, wonderful morning and evening views and quick 10-15 minute drive to / from campus. Great central location for exploring the Keweenaw. My only comment would be that the on-demand hot water heater is a bit wonky and gives you inconsistent water temps in the shower from too hot to too cold in bursts - probably not a huge deal for most, but if you need a relaxing shower it might be a consideration.

Quiet Cabin on the Water

My husband, dog, and I enjoyed our stay right on the canal! The cabin is a little older with some windows and screens needing attention, but it was exceptionally clean and comfortable as our base-camp for adventures around the peninsula. Great proximity to Houghton and Hancock. Easy check-in process. Definitely a positive experience!

Beautiful location that needs work

The location in relationship to Houghton was perfect. Not too far out but not downtown. We came to visit out daughter at Michigan Tech and stayed the weekend. The property on the water was beautiful and peaceful. A great get away that allowed us to visit and take in the views. The accommodations left a bit to be desired. The cabin seemed hastily finished: trim was missing. Wires coming out of the wall, miss-matched carpeting in the bedroom, unfinished floors in the other two. Some safety issues that bothered me were nails sticking up from the wooden dock patio. The step down onto the dock. No batteries in a smoke detector and the other one was disconnected. (This may have not been the owner's fault due to tenants cooking, but they should be checked periodically.) there was no hot water in the kitchen which made it difficult to really get the dishes clean. It left me to wonder how clean the previous tenant left them with no dishwasher. If you are looking for a place to crash, this would fit the bill. It's clean and not terrible. Slightly over priced for what you get but we will probably look elsewhere next time we come up to visit.

Short trip to the keweenaw

The cabin was as advertised. Very convenient to houghton, the keweenaw, and the porkies. We hadn’t been up to the area in years but this short getaway was perfect. As dog owners we appreciated the lack of carpeting and nice yard overlooking the canal.

Quaint Cabin

Cabin on the portage along with 2 others on the property. Shared dock, grill and picnic table. Easy pull through driveway to load and unload ATVs with other people and able to park on the road. Beautiful shoreline and very close to the water. Host was great and accommodating. Close to Houghton about 10 min drive to visit our son at MTU.

Canal view at its best

This cabin is exactly as described. However, the back deck is even better as the view of the canal is gorgeous. I also loved seeing it from the inside living room window. We had good night sleep and only wished we were not so bust during the day as I wanted more time on the deck. The Viking cruise ship comes by for extra entertainment. Thanks for the stay.

Super location/Pet friendly

The cabin met our needs and was a great location for dropping off our son at Tech. Enjoyed swimming in the canal, the fire pit, and star gazing.

Hidden Gem

I have stayed here 3 years in a row and plan to continue as it is a great location on the water and very quite. I hate to overrate it as I want to keep it hidden so I am always able to stay here.

Cabin #3 worked well for my family and dog… great proximity to the event we were attending, and pretty spot on the canal. The deck was everyone’s favorite place to sit!

Incredible location

The cabin sits directly in front of the Houghton Canal and so the views are gorgeous. Loved the fire pit too!

Great Property close to Houghton

This was our second stay at this property, both times were exceptional experiences. The pictures are accurate and the place is very clean. Nice view out of the front of the portage canal.

We needed a place to stay near Michigan Tech that could accommodate our group of two families.

Only a few minutes from MTU which was what we needed. The owner was helpful providing specific directions as we arrived very late and it was dark. There was a snow shovel by the door and we did need that with extra snow fall each day. Everything worked just fine. Not a fancy place but certainly has great location and space we needed.

A slice of Heaven

We truly enjoyed our stay on the Canal and recommend these Cabins as they are Pet friendly and clean. Short Boat ride to North Entrance Lake Superior and Portage Lake. Thank you Chad for the fast and great communication you had with us.

Easy and relaxing

This cottage was perfect for us. Comfortable, everything we needed, quiet, and it was quick and easy to get in and out of town or out to the township park on Lake Superior. Had a lovely swim off the dock and enjoyed beautiful mornings on the porch. We didn’t cook meals but kitchen was equipped well enough if we’d wanted to. Questions quickly answered by the host. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful view!!

Right on the lake, stunning sunrises! Caught a few small mouth bass. Wish it wasn't a trip with a purpose, would of loved to spend a little more time there. Great location for MTU. Not there long enough to use the kitchen, but it appeared that it was in working order and I saw dishes in the cupboard. I can't really say as to pans and what not, as I forgot to look. But the fridge and freezer worked for sure! A few small issues, which were reported to the owner. The cabin was under construction upon arrival, which it's always nice to see improvements being made in rental homes. Decent place to crash after long drives! We would stay again.

This property is located on a beautiful calm part of the Portage Canal and just a few miles from down town Houghton and MTU, it's peaceful yet close enough to town in case you need something. A short drive out the breakers(lake superior) to take in some of the best sunsets in the world.
