Summary:
Private, light-filled studio in Central Austin - perfect for a quiet retreat to work or explore the city. The studio comfortably accommodates two people with a queen bed, kitchen, bathroom, washer/dryer, wi-fi, private entrance, and outdoor deck.
Situated in the popular Hyde Park area, with easy access by car or bus to downtown for SXSW, Austin City Limits, University of Texas Football, and other Austin favorites! Many favorite eateries, bars and shops are within short walking distance.

The Space:
Please note, all guests staying at a Portoro home are required to sign a rental agreement.

The structure was originally built in 1935 on South 5th St. It was slated for demolition, but salvaged by the current owners, who freed the structure from its foundation, transported it 8 miles to the current location, and lifted it for a new garage to be built underneath. The original hexagonal light fixtures and doorknobs have been preserved and new hexagon floor tiles were installed to emphasize these original design elements.

The studio includes a queen bed, kitchen, bathroom, and sitting area. Guests can come and go through the private entrance and enjoy an outdoor balcony during their stay. The kitchen offers a full fridge with freezer, small 4-burner electric stove with oven, microwave, coffee maker, washer/dryer, and complimentary coffee & tea.

14 solar panels are installed to off-set consumption for environmentally-minded guests. Wi-fi is provided for optimal streaming on the Roku or working remotely.

A new mini-split air conditioning unit provides excellent heating + cooling throughout.

In compliance with our policies for long term stays, we need to collect a few additional fees from you before guaranteeing this reservation. Please see below and reply here with any questions. Your guest ambassador will reply shortly and be available to assist you where needed.

Additional Cleaning Fee:

We do require additional cleaning fees for guests staying longer than 3 weeks. Your Guest Ambassador will coordinate the cleaning schedule for a minimum of once every 2 weeks. You can request cleanings more frequently if desired. Additional cleaning charges will be sent using a payment request or resolution request, immediately following the cleaning.

Guest Access:
We offer self-check-in. Portoro uses smart locks.

•We cannot guarantee early check-ins or late checkouts in advance. If the house happens to be ready earlier than our standard 4 pm check-in time on the day of your arrival, we, in most cases will allow an early check-in. For a reliable alternative with guaranteed check-in or check-out timing, it's recommended to book the night before or after your scheduled arrival or departure.

Prior to check-in, we will send you detailed directions to ensure a seamless arrival. Pack n Plays or High Chairs must be requested prior to arrival.

HOTEL TAX COLLECTION: Both the City of Austin and the State of Texas require all hotel and vacation rental hosts to collect hotel tax. We collect these two taxes within the booking transaction. The state requires 6% and the city requires 11%.

Avoid this place!
Walkable neighborhood, I think not. No sidewalks, (usually okay), but this is near a major road and rail line which must be crossed to get to the listed nearby assets. The bathroom door is rediculous. It is the original bathroom door that has been put on a barn door track. The end result is a couple inch gap on all sides when door is "fully closed". When sitting on the toilet, I can wave to my wife who is sitting in living area seating. Let alone anyone who may choose to use the bathroom at night without lighting up the bedroom. Doors exist for privacy. If you are comfortable enough to do your business in front of your partner or guest, this may not bother you. This was deal breaker for my wife and I. Other minor issues such as trash on the ground and a run down house next door as our views, shelving too small to store our clothes and a deck listed that has no furniture are just the start of our list of grievances. My wife and I decided that this was an unacceptable way to spend our vacation. We reached out to the property management and they offered to pick up trash, tape cardboard to edges of bath door and tape cardboard over broken windows. They told me they had no vacancy to relocate me to, so I offered a compromise to have them relist the property. I offered to pay a couple days while it sorted out. Offer rejected, (so much for heavy demand limiting ootions). No attempt at compromise was made. We moved to a hotel.This place kept all our money. AVOID!

Extended Stay
Great for a quick trip or a longer stay! My only complaint is the “noise” tracker they use to manage noise levels was not accurate. I would get warnings about noise when I wasn’t home or when I was sleeping.
