We have been coming to Savary every summer for 6 years. Love it. We booked late this year and were relieved to find this cabin. According to VRBO, this cabin is located on Savary Island Rd, which runs parallel to the north beaches, which we love. In reality, this cabin is in the backyard of the owner’s cabin and is located much further west and is on Vancouver Blvd, the “busy” thoroughfare of the island. You don’t get beach views, you get a view of the owner’s cabin, generator shed or/and the road. Savary is a small island, so it’s not the end of the world if you’re further from the beach, but be prepared for a relatively dark forest cabin, not beach view. The owners recommended to access the beach by the nearby roads. I think if we were bolder, we could’ve cut through the owners yard. I encourage the owners to update the address and setup of their guest cabin.
We were notified a week or so before our trip that the propane fridge wasn’t working. The owners said they would provide us with a small electric one. We asked and received one cooler and one bag of ice at the beginning of our two-week stay. Unfortunately, we had to throw out a lot of food that spoiled.
The “grill” is an old charcoal one. I don't mind a charcoal grill, but we weren’t warned to bring any. The owners said they had some, but none was available. After asking they bought us one small bag for our two-week stay.
Now, a BIG mea culpa. Halfway through our stay, 2 friends and their 18-month old stayed with us for several nights. The 4 of us slept in a tent outside giving them the cabin. We didn’t inform the owners of their stay. The owners complained, which I understand. The cabin says 4 and we pushed the def. to mean 4 adults. They didn’t see it that way and curtly explained we would have to leave the property as only four were allowed. Fortunately, we are friends with the cabin owners next door. They let us camp on their property, use their shower, etc. And after several messages, the owners agreed to our offer to not occupy the cabin but could visit it while our friends were there. We volunteered to pay $300 for the expenses of day usage because we did use gas, propane etc. (COVID guidelines allow for 4 plus up to 5 visitors.) It was awkward. The day we left, they installed the new fridge. Sigh.
The cabin is charming and perfect for a family. We don’t mind roughing it but found this experience to be “cheap” not affordable.
