A long drive curves through coastal forest and then opens up to a stunning view of the house and the bay. We enjoyed our visits to Bellingrath Gardens and to downtown Mobile - each of them an easy drive from the house - but the truth is that if we had never left the property we would have had a marvelous time. We spent hours and hours sitting in the Adirondack chairs, sipping cocktails and visiting with our friends under the live oaks with the bay lapping at the shore fifty feet away. The bay took on different moods at different times of day. At sunrise the whole bay sparkles. Moonrise casts a glowing path from the moon all the way to the shore. On still afternoons the water is smooth as glass. We had one windy day with a breeze strong enough that you had to lean into it, and there were two foot swells. Sailboats close to shore and the occasional ocean going freighter out in the channel.
The floor to ceiling windows in the living room look out over the same view, and the wrap around leather couch was great- plenty of room for four folks to sprawl out on.
The galley kitchen was well equipped. The upstairs shower had a fantastic shower head, which was set high enough in the wall that I didn’t have to duck or stoop. (I’m 6-5”, so that was a rare delight.)
We look forward to coming again and trying out the kayaks when the weather is warmer. We’ve already recommended the place to our friends.
