In the summer, the Changing of the Guard takes place every morning on the lawn of the hill and, every night, the public is invited to attend the impressive Sound and Light Show - all in spectacular lighting effects, in magnificent giant images projected on the Parliament Buildings, in words and in music. These two must-see events are free.
The Byward Market is a historic farmer`s market. This commercial area during the day is transformed in the evening into a gathering place appreciated for its restaurants and nightclubs. The Byward Market, located east of Parliament Hill, is a must-see neighborhood in Ottawa.
The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal is a historic waterway used by boaters from spring to autumn and becoming the largest natural ice rink in the world in winter. The Rideau Canal winds its way through the heart of Ottawa before it merges with the Ottawa River through locks at the foot of Parliament Hill.

Summer period
The Hot Air Balloon Festival is very popular in our region during the long weekend of September. This festival includes hot air balloons, shows of all kinds, a carnival and much more.
The Tulip Festival which takes place in mid-May is one of the largest tulip festivals in the world with a demonstration of over a million flowers that will amaze young and old alike.
On July 1st, Canada Day, Ottawa hosts the country`s biggest party.
Visitors can also attend a number of musical celebrations, including the Ottawa Jazz Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest, Escapade, CityFolk and Bluesfest, which draw some of the greatest international artists to the capital.
Several sporting activities are organized in the region during the summer period. There are events for all ages and all skill levels.
