Getaway Cabin sijaitsee ihanteellisella paikalla Wolf Creekin ja Pagosa Springsin välissä!

1900-luvun alkupuolella rakennettu mökki oli aikoinaan Fred Harmanin, Red Ryder -sarjakuvalehden myöhään kirjoittajan, koti. Siksi se tunnetaan nimellä Red Ryder -hytti. Mökissä on oma yksityinen poukama, jonka takana ei ole mitään muuta kuin kansallista metsää. Mökki on ihanan kaukainen ja tuntuu samalla kun pääsee helposti sekä Wolf Creek -hiihtoalueelle että Pagosa Springsin kaupunkiin. Se on kuva viehättävästä pienestä mökistä metsässä. Kun veljeni Robert ja minä (olen Zac) etsivät ostamispaikkaa, halusimme jotain, jolla olisi luonnetta, ja juuri tämän löysimme tästä pienestä mökistä. Siellä oleskelleet ihmiset ovat usein kommentoineet jonkinlaista maagista laatua paikasta. Tiedän ensin, että se jollakin tavoin edistää todella tervettä unta - varsinkin jos metallikatolle sataa sadetta. Sisustus on ainutlaatuinen ja viihtyisä. Asensimme päähuoneeseen juuri hickory-lattian ja uuden lämmittimen, joka lisää viehätysvoimaa ja viihtyisyyttä. Olemme myös juuri valmistaneet makuuhuoneiden ja molempien kylpyhuoneiden uusinnan. Uusi matto, uusi kipsilevy ja maali makuuhuoneissa, laattalattia yhdessä kylpyhuoneessa, jossa on lattialämpöä ja uusi suihku tekevät paikasta paljon mukavamman. Siellä on puuhella ja pieni parvi, joka lapsille näyttää aina pitävän. Aivan etuoven ulkopuolella on katettu kuisti, jolla on puuhelmi, joka näyttää tieltä kohti Saddle Mountainia taustalla. Kuistilla on iso kansi, joka on mukava syödä ulkona tai ottaa aurinkoa. Mökin takana on vain kansallismetsä, joten ei ole harvinaista nähdä valikoima villieläimiä. Siellä on retkeilyreitti (tai hiihtohiihtokoulu), joka alkaa heti takaovesta.

Naapurimme Jeff ja Jan auttavat meitä huolehtimaan paikasta vain ohituksen tiellä. He ovat todella mukavia ihmisiä ja voivat auttaa kaikessa tarvittavassa tai antaa vain neuvoja ruokapaikoista tai viileistä asioista. Joten toivomme että tulet. Rob ja minä olemme laittaneet paljon rakkautta matkustamoon ja toivomme, että jokainen, joka tulee ja pysyy, voi tuntea rakkauden.

This is a beautiful peaceful retreat!! Fully stocked plenty of room. Cool quiet just far enough from the hwy to have complete silence! My hubby and I just relaxed walked through the beautiful mountains and didn't want to leave . It was the best thing in cabins that we have ever enjoyed! Thank you

Cozy cabin, perfect for family vacation

We had a wonderful time in the Red Ryder cabin. The wood stove really warmed the place up. The giant open room is perfect for hanging out together. As promised, my youngest loved making the loft her space. My husband ran around the forest in back and we all lived having just a 20 minute drive to Wolf Creek.

Great location and a relaxing stay

We stayed at the cabin for 3 relaxing nights with our dog. Huge rainstorm the first day at kept us from hiking but a fire and movies kept us entertained. Close to tons of hiking for the remainder. Cabin had all the amenities you’d expect and even more!

Spring Break Ski Trip

We had such a lovely time in the Red Ryder Cabin. It was the perfect size for two teens and two adults. The location was great for heading up to Wolf Creek each day, and close enough to Pagosa Springs for last-minute grocery (or internet access) runs. The cabin has a super cozy vibe and it was just magical with the snow. We can't wait to go back!

Nice cabin in the woods with privacy and low road noise

Note lack of WIFI and there is no cell reception. I didn’t expect the latter. You can go down the road for email checks. I wonder if the gas stove / heater had an issue because anytime I was in the main room for an hour or two, I got very congested. A walk and even just sitting outside gave partial relief quickly, which made me think it was a chemical irritant and not allergies. Things may have been worse when I used the oven, and the oven was slow to preheat, so gas incomplete combustion became s my theory! Both for heat regulation and to air out the cabin, I wanted overnight ventilation, but the cabin windows didn’t have screens, so could not be opened. (Flies). We left the screened front door open overnight but I think we let in the mouse that then haunted the place. (The screen door is “rustic.”) My husband didn’t have problems, so it may have been allergies rather than gas incomplete combustion.The cabin is even cuter than pictures show, and the remodeled primary bath was great but the door to secondary bath/laundry room didn’t close.

Red Ryder cabin

My fiancée and I stayed here for a few days and had a wonderful time, the cabin is super cozy and secluded while still being close to town! I’ve been coming to pagosa since I was a little kid, and it’s safe to say I had another wonderful experience.

Loved it!!

We had a wonderful time!! 4 wheel drive would be helpful getting into the driveway. Beautiful property, we enjoyed sitting on the porch in the sunshine with snow all around.

Red Ryder Nature Getaway

This was a lovely cabin that was well stocked with great amenities. The kitchen was fully equipped, bathrooms and bedrooms were comfortable and had everything we needed for a great week-long stay. The cabin was just as the online listing described and provided a great base camp for our hiking, fishing, reading, and relaxing week-long stay in the Pagosa Springs area. We did not have any cell phone service or wi-fi in the cabin, and it was refreshing to be totally disconnected for a week. We were visited by lots of animals including a bear, fox, wild turkey, hummingbirds, and many chipmunks. Overall a great experience.

Peaceful and Perfect

Our stay at the Red Ryder cabin was 100% enjoyable. The location away from traffic and crowds was just what we were hoping for. The historic cabin was well stocked and nicely furnished with rustic charm, but updated with great kitchen appliances and a tiled shower with never ending hot water. Listening to the rain on the tin roof was a special treat. If you want to be unplugged from technology, this is your place! We had to drive to town to get good phone reception, but that was a small price to pay for complete quiet and privacy.

Wonderful, cozy, clean, comfortable, very well stocked to accommodate all needs during stay. Will certainly return to this cabin when possible. Beautiful

My husband and I stayed at this property for the month of February 2024 with our two dogs. We loved the cabin and as most reviewers have stated, it is well equipped. From a hair straightener to a cast iron skillet and a great movie selection; we immediately felt at home. The hiking behind the property was amazing and so convenient to set out with the dogs. I cannot remember any rentals that we have stayed at that gave you plenty of firewood, paper towels, laundry detergent and nice snow shovels! We certainly were grateful for it all. Really great location between town and Wolf Creek. I would say that having 4 wheel drive for the driveway is almost a must. Thank you to our hosts for being so accommodating! Brad and Shelly

Family vacation

We had a great time. The cabin was perfect. My 19 year old daughter still loved hanging out in the loft. So it isn’t just for little kids. We enjoyed the time together without our phones for distraction. We even watched some movies together and introduced her to the looney toons. Cell service would have been nice to plan our outings or look up birds and plants that we saw around the cabin, but we did it old school. We took the hike out the back into the forest and managed not to get lost. We even found some bear tracks, but no bears were attached to them. LOL. One of the neighbors came by to say hello and make sure we knew about the trail. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.

Summer Pagosa Trip

We escaped to Pagosa Springs for the mountains, cooler air and outdoors. This place definitely has the cabin feel with woods around it. The kitchen has everything you need, there is a gas grill to use, bedrooms were comfortable and cooled down nicely with windows opened, and bathroom and shower worked out great! We liked the convenience of being out of town but still close enough to make a run in for takeout food. We had our senior beagle with us so the cabin deck worked out perfect for our dinners since Pagosa does not have pet-friendly restaurants. We did find just one called "The Break Room" but never made it there. We had two disappointments. 1) The main room got hot in the late afternoon. During our stay it was near 90 daytime, sunshine and no rain. The main room was comfortable until late afternoon and ceiling fans helped, but the windows in it don't open. If you use the oven it becomes too hot to stay inside by night. There is a screen door but the screen is mostly torn and moths/bugs were getting in. We did Love the deck most, and enjoyed it for dinners and stargazing. It was cool and comfortable. 2) We tried to hike uphill behind the cabin but much of the woods are overgrown, and what appears to be a path past the woodshed needs some major weed wacking, so we were disappointed we couldn't hike trails from the property into the national forest as advertised. The street from the cabin does make a loop for a nice sunset walk though. We enjoyed our stay.

Second Visit Felt Like Coming Back Home

We first stayed at the Red Ryder cabin in 2020 and had a wonderful time celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary. COVID was in full swing, Pagosa Springs had barely re-opened just before we got there, and shut back down about the same time our stay ended. When it came time to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we chose to return. It was like coming back home, except better. There was a much improved memory foam mattress in the master bedroom and the video collection had grown. The kitchen was well equipped, the linens were all very soft, and the firewood was plentiful. We were glad to be able to unplug, unwind, and spend a few relaxing days just enjoying the quiet and the solitude. We took the dogs and explored some new areas to us including the Blanco Basin and Piedra Falls and highly recommend both. The visitor center in town has good guides and maps available.

Fall Fishing Fun

This was our 2nd time at The Red Ryder and we really enjoyed our relaxing week. The falls colors were fantastic as we headed to some favorite fishing spots and explored new ones. The fishing was great and we even caught the elusive tiger trout! We appreciate being able to bring our dog and look forward to another visit.

Great, cozy cabin that's secluded from close neighbors

I stayed here with my two dogs and it was wonderful! Being at the end of a circle drive, there was plenty of privacy. All behind the cabins are woods, so you can venture out the back door onto a trail. I loved the work the owners have put into the cabin. It's got a rustic feel, but all the amenities to make it cozy and comfortable. My phone actually worked outside of the cabin, on the deck, to call people, but I had no wi-fi, which was nice. It's easy to get into town and have wi-fi. It was fun to just have a DVD player, and no cable or streaming. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it as well!

Rob and I are brothers who have a zest for life. We grew up in a musical family and still play music together throughout Colorado. We even took a couple of tours through Europe, playing on the streets and pubs. We both love the outdoors and relish in the finer things of life such as friendships and family, good stories, good food and drink, and time to hang out and play.

In 1998 Rob and I took a trip through the central and south mountains of colorado on a quest to find a place that we could get away to. I remember the first time coming down Wolf Creek pass and stopping at the scenic overlook and thinking that it was one of the most beautiful valleys I had ever seen. We had traveled all through the rockies but when we stumbled onto the cabin we knew this was the place. There was just something about the way it looked that really grabbed us. Then it is close to Wolf Creek and skiing, it is surrounded by national forest and close to town. It really is an ideal location all around.

The location is amazing. It's right in between the ski area and Pagosa springs. Also, it is unique in that you can ski or hike into 100,000,000 acres of wilderness right out the back door.
