Our neighborhood borders the scenic Peterson Nature Preserve and is located just across the street from the Kalamazoo River area. Downtown Saugatuck is a short walk away, and the beaches are just a quick, easy drive. If you need additional space, our adjacent one-bedroom guesthouse may be available for rent. A fence with a gate separates the two homes to maintain privacy. Guests enjoy full access to all amenities—both inside and out. Plus, every “A Step Away” guest receives an exclusive discount at our local store during their stay. We’re also dog-friendly (with prior approval and a pet fee).
This updated, single-story home features a fully fenced backyard, mature landscaping, and on-site parking for a few vehicles. Inside, the home comfortably accommodates up to six guests. The interior is thoughtfully styled to reflect the character of Saugatuck, Douglas, and the local beach and arts scenes.

Important Information Before You Book
• Professionally cleaned by trusted local providers; inspected regularly.
• Contactless check-in and a digital “Guest eGuide” link are provided before your stay.
• Enter your full guest count (adults, children, infants and pre-approved dog) when booking.
• Primary renters must be 25+ years old.
• No parties allowed.
Fees & Taxes
Pet Policy & Fees:
• Dogs (up to 2) may be approved for a per-stay fee.
• Do not use “Instant Book” unless your dog(s) have been approved.
• Pet fee is added at booking or may be adjusted if added later.
• Expectations:
o Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced yard.
o Owners must pick up and properly dispose of waste.
o No excessive barking, especially during quiet hours.
o Dogs must not be left alone for extended periods.
o Any pet-related damage must be reported immediately.
Cleaning Fee:
• A portion of the actual cost is charged, distributed over the number of nights.
Sales Tax:
• A 6% Michigan sales/use tax applies to the base rate and additional fees (e.g., cleaning, pet fees). Collected by VRBO per law for stays under 31 days.
During Your Stay
• Landscaping or sprinkler systems may operate—but never too early or late.
• Trash & recycling: Deposit both in outdoor receptacles (Note: Saugatuck does not offer weekly recycling).
• Checkout instructions:
o Place soiled towels in the bathroom and leave dirty linens on unmade beds.
o Load and run the dishwasher before departing.
o If using the propane grill, burn off and brush the grates (wire brush is in the tank compartment).
o Turn off lights, close windows, adjust HVAC, and lock the digital door lock when leaving.
