Maison 1603 - s'Storikenascht**** Charm in the heart of the vineyards a Hunawihr
Hello,
You'll find all the information you need and the best prices on our personal website! (maison - 1603 . com)
In anticipation of your visit, here is a brief description:
Our gite, s'Storickenascht, is located on the second floor of Maison 1603.
Its original half-timbering and ceilings (1603) will plunge you into another era!
The wood panelling on the walls and the solid fir parquet flooring complete the warm ambience.
This is the ideal gite for a stay with family or friends in any season: it will be your cosy cocoon where simplicity and authenticity take pride of place.
One of the characteristic rooms of the Alsatian house is the ‘Stub’, which translates as ‘living room’.
This is where the evening gatherings were held. It usually had a corner bench leaning against the wood panelling on the wall.
The bench and panelling were missing from the house, so we set about restoring the charm of yesteryear to this essential part of the Alsatian home.
And the result lives up to our expectations, with the impression that the work has always been there, just like the antique furniture in the various rooms.
Just behind the dining area, you'll find a tiny room where you can feed the 19th-century Kachlofen that originally heated the whole floor.
You can also use this space to store your groceries. The fridge and breakfast area will be waiting for you with everything you need to return to the comforts of home: toaster, filter coffee maker, Nespresso percolator, etc.
*In the kitchen, which opens onto the living room and the Stub, you'll find all the equipment you need: fridge/freezer, microwave oven, glass-ceramic hob and conventional oven, dishwasher. And, of course, all the essential kitchen utensils.
The lounge area has 2 sofas, including a pull-out sofa that sleeps 2, so you can enjoy family time together, watching TV or reading, comfortably seated in a bright atmosphere overlooking a small cobbled street leading to the town hall.
There are 2 bedrooms in this flat, each with its own charm:
- the first has the charm of yesteryear, with its large polychrome wardrobe and stained-glass windows overlooking the small courtyard, which you can enjoy. It has a 140x200 cm bed.
- The second overlooks the street and is bathed in light. This larger room is perfect as a master bedroom, with its very comfortable 160x200cm bed. The antique wardrobe alone offers the charm you're looking for.
A magnificent bathroom in harmony with the setting awaits you, allowing you to take a shower too. The period ‘Lion's Paw’ free-standing bathtub is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing and walking.
Outside, table and chairs await you in our courtyard as soon as the fine weather arrives. A barbecue is also available. Perfect for an outdoor snack.
Below is a brief description of the house, followed by a glimpse of our beautiful village. Hunawihr is listed as one of France's most beautiful villages.
The house dates back to 1603 and was built by the provost of King Henry IV.
Over time, it has become a typical winegrower's house, with its sandstone entrance porch, half-timbering, authentic balcony and flower-filled courtyard set between a barn and a house.
Situated on the wine route, in the heart of Alsace, in one of the most beautiful villages in France, our 2 charming gites are an ideal base for visiting the whole of the Alsace region, the Vosges and even nearby Germany and Switzerland.
Housed in a house listed as a cultural heritage site, our 2 holiday homes have been completely renovated and redecorated with patience and passion since 2010, respecting the natural materials of our ancestors.
Here, furniture steeped in history blends with modern comforts to enhance your well-being.
Located right in the centre of Hunawihr, you can feel the pulse of this peaceful little wine-growing village with its flower-filled houses.
The village, made up of two almost parallel streets linked by two small lanes, offers views of the surrounding countryside from almost every angle.
You can easily park in front of the house. Electric and hybrid cars can be recharged here.
Via the wine trail, you can easily walk to 2 emblematic villages, Riquewihr to the south (20 minutes‘ walk) and Ribeauvillé to the north (20 minutes’ walk), offering landscapes for which our region is famous.
Maison 1603 is typical of winegrowers' houses, with a vast cellar on the ground floor and the living quarters upstairs.
The 2 flats are accessed via the monumental wooden staircase, the backbone of the house, which leads from each floor to the attic. As you climb the stairs, you will pass through the different eras of the house.

The beautiful village of Hunawihr
Situated in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, on the Alsace Wine Route, Hunawihr is a typical Alsatian village, listed as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’.
The fortified church overlooks the 360-degree vineyard landscape, making this village a natural stop-off point, set in a setting of vines.
Hunawihr owes its name to the holy washerwoman Huna, who, according to legend, lived here in the 12th century with her husband, the Frankish lord Hunon. Legend has it that in the 12th century, when the winegrowers of Hunawihr were unable to produce a harvest, St Huna performed a miracle by making the wine flow from the fountain that still bears her name today.
Overlooking the village, the 15th-century church of St Jaques le Majeur, surrounded by a fortified cemetery, has preserved its unspoilt setting, highlighting this remarkable part of Alsace's heritage landscape. The church also served as a dungeon, where the inhabitants could take refuge in the event of an attack.
This wine-growing village is made up of gabled wine-growers' houses with narrow courtyards, most of which date from the 16th to 18th centuries.
You can explore the village on a historical trail.
