Very cozy, elegant, and convenient for 2 families have vacations at the same time. Good location , close to blue ridge park way and Biltmore Estate in Asheville. The whole house is actually in the woods, very quiet with good privacy, but we did have a friendly bear family visited which holds the community name card as Black Bear Retreat Thank for hosting us and we have had an excellent vacation with my friends couple. Definitely will be there again next time go to mountains.

This place is adorable with lots of cute spaces to relax. The sun room was perfect for an afternoon of reading and relaxing. Loved having a garage to park in and large full kitchen for food prep. Would definitely stay here again.

Thanks Donna for staying at Black Bear Retreat. I love the sunroom my personal favorite. Its especially nice in the fall to watch the leaves change. Think of BBR as your home away from home.

The setting was nice and the location excellent. The house was somewhat musty before we opened windows. The beds were comfortable and the technology worked well. The kitchen had everything we needed for the stay.

As a remote property, there are times when the home may be closed up for several days between guests, particularly during certain weather conditions. We loved our stay! We were there 5 weeks. Our host was fantastic and even gave us restaurants and hiking trails. The kitchen is fully stocked!!!! I cooked like I was at home and had everything I needed. The house was so clean. The beds were comfortable and the TV’s worked great and were in every room!!! It’s peaceful and beautiful there , everything In Town was only a mile away!! It was perfectMark and Shawn Pilato

Thanks Shawn for the thorough review. Its a little piece of country heaven in the "town and country" of Black Mountain. I hope you are able to stay again in the future. Fall is an even more spectacular time to see the colors change and hike the Blue ridge. We like to provide a little bit of everything at a fair value.

We were extremely pleased with the property! It was very spacious, comfortable, and had everything we could ask for and more. The location was close to town to make everything accessible but still remote enough for our taste. The layout of the house worked very well for us. We enjoyed being able to gather together in the family room or seek a quiet place to read in the sunroom, or on the outdoor deck. The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of covers and a selection of pillows to choose from. Our only complaint was that we didn't have more time to stay!

Worked out perfectly for our group. Some quirks and flaws in presentation, but this was the right place for our group and a good value!Read the listing carefully! I missed that the "third bed" was actually two available air mattresses, but these mattresses were high quality and self-inflating, working fine for us.Kitchen had most of what we needed for moderate cooking, the TV was quite large, and having an enclosed garage was wonderful. Beds (at least the one I was in) were comfortable. The location is close to town and there are neighbors, but it's just secluded enough for comfortable privacy. We had no major issues!The property does have a handful of rough edges.-There are *lots* of unlabeled light switches throughout the property, and they are not intuitive. There are some lights I'm not sure we ever figured out how to turn on, and several switches don't seem to do anything.-The lighting throughout the property is inconsistent and sometimes inadequate - the upstairs bedroom is lit by two overhead fans with different color bulbs, the upstairs bathroom has three light fixtures yet *still* never feels well-lit, etc. -The driveway has a very sharp dropoff with no working lights to mark it; pay attention!-There was unsorted laundry in the dryer, and only 2 spare trash bags under the sink. Not major issues at all, just flaws in presentation.Some things could be improved, but absolutely would stay again.

We’re labeling every light switch (many are older two-way style, which explains the ones that seemed to do nothing), checking the driveway lights and adding reflective markers at the drop-off, and tightening up our turnover checks. Loved our weekend stay at Black Bear Retreat! The house was clean and comfortable, convenient to everything downtown, and had beautiful woods surrounding it making it really private. I actually hated to leave. :) Will have to rent for longer next time.

The location of the house is perfect! There is a lot of space in the home for everyone to be comfortable. This house is like a 1990’s time capsule which is pretty cool. The house had everything we needed for our stay.

Very nice house and neighborhood. Well equipped kitchen and pleasant porch. Comfortable beds and large bedrooms. Great location and the host is very helpful.

If you would have reached out I could have walked you through to get the channels and find towels. We have video streaming al la carte and also basic cable channels for you at no additional cost. We have a full pantry of towels not sure what happened there either.

Great accommodations!

Excellent place! The owner was extremely accommodating when I had a question upon arrival. The location is perfect. Very close to downtown Black Mountain and easily accessible to Asheville. It was just right for my family to enjoy a quick trip to the mountains.

Second Stay

This is a lovely place and was our second time staying there. It could use some updating but is very comfortable and has everything you really need. The house is in a lovely, quiet, and convenient location.

Great house in an adorable little town

We spent a lovely weekend at the Black Bear Retreat. The house was just as described, and had everything we needed. Black Mountain is such a quaint little town, and it was super close to Asheville. We really enjoyed ourselves and are so glad that we stayed at the Black Bear Retreat!

Thanks for staying with us. The location of the home is ideal for excursions into Asheville and rides on the Blue ridge. One of my favorite places to go are the Craggy Gardens off the Blue Ridge and the NC Arboretum both are quite close to Black Bear Retreat.

Excellent as always

This was our sixth time here! We keep returning because it is a wonderful house, impeccably clean, and a pleasure to stay in. And Black Mountain has a beautiful little lake and interesting shops and restaurants.

This property is well stocked with comfortable furniture. The location is perfect. 1-2 miles from where we wanted to go, yet still has the feeling of being isolated.
