Enjoyed our stay over Labor Day weekend. Property was as advertised, cool house with a lot of character. Everything we needed for light cooking was available. Close to both parks and downtown.

This is a nice big house with plenty of room for people. It has great areas to gather as a group and spaces to be alone if you need some quiet time. It was not far from anything and well equipped things. We enjoyed our stay.

This house was so fun. Our family stayed there, about 10 of us. It was big enough we could all watch a movie together in the living space, but we could also have our space. The kitchen table let us all sit down for a meal together as well. Really perfect for a larger group. The location is great, literally 5 minutes to the beach and 15 minutes to New Buffalo.

My family has been coming to Michigan City my entire life. This year we decided to get VRBO for the first time - rather than a hotel or staying with extended family. It was perfect for us. We had plenty of room to be together, the bedrooms were comfortable. The house was outfitted with everything we needed for our annual beach vacation. The location is great - very close to everything - much in walking distance - coffee shop, yoga studio, restaurants/bars, the outlet mall is only a few blocks away. A first floor bedroom and laundry was perfect for my parents. The kids loved having the bunk bedroom and upstairs TV room in the evenings. We would absolutely recommend this location to others.

We picked Indiana Dunes for our annual vacation. We were able to walk to zoo & park & the house fit our needs perfectly. Thanks for all the extras to make a wonderful vacation for my family.

Great, welcoming home. Perfect for my large family and two dogs. Large fenced in backyard and only 1 mile from Washington Park with the beach and zoo. Definitely recommend!

Great for families

Check-in process was so easy. The house was very clean and charming, had everything you could possibly need for a vacation. Great location, it was close to the beach, museums and shopping. Had a fenced in back yard. Our family had a wonderful week in the Captains House and would definitely rent it again if we ever find our way back in Michigan City.

Charming, Spacious House for Weekend Getaway

The house was beautifully decorated with more than enough space for our 11 guests. Location was a bit industrial compared to my normal preference, but was centrally located for what we wanted to do, and very close to the train station for commuting into Chicago.

Great location. Clean! WELL STOCKED. Lightning fast responses to questions. Highest recommendation for this place. Our 3 generation family had a wonderful stay.

Great centralized location

The Captain’s House is centrally located. Very easy to go to Washington Park beach or the zoo. The Indiana dunes parks were great. You can hop on a train for a day trip to Chicago. Several disc golf courses nearby. Our party of 8 had a great time.

Fun Family Getaway

Home was decorated very nicely and lots of attention to detail. Perfect location to the lake, nearby dunes, and MI. The home had everything we needed- super comfy and lots of space for our family. Hosts were quick to respond for a few questions we had. Wonderful experience.

Charming historic home

The house is beautifully decorated and stocked with everything you could need. We appreciated the mirrors in every bedroom and vanities to get ready at. The beds were also very comfortable. The backyard with the fire pit was nice to hang out at night. Good location in town and not too far from the beach. Perfect getaway for a girls trip!

A must stay!!

we had a group of 11 people and enjoyed the house and all it has to offer!! lots of beds and places to sleep! good selection of board games to get you off your phones and be in the moment! outdoor area is very nice with a fire pit! the home was very clean and well kept! we highly recommend staying here at the captain house!

Family Vacation

This lovely home was the perfect place for our family vacation with our four adult children, spouses, and a fiancé. There is plenty of room and everything was well stocked and clean. We enjoyed an evening walk to the harbor. It was lovely. This historic home felt very warm and inviting. The hosts quickly responded to questions and were very kind. We would highly recommend the Captain’s House.

Christmas Vacation 2024

Met description. Loved having fenced in backyard for littles. Only issue is downstairs had to be extremely cold so upstairs could be cool to sleep.

Nice Family house

Place was very nice and accommodated the 7 adults and 2 children. I like the big dining table where we all could sit and enjoy each other company whether eating, talking, and playing board games/cards. Outside patio was nice and spent quite a bit of time there. Even though we were in a heat wave the patio was shaded and pleasant. The upstairs was nice for kids as there was another TV where they could enjoy if they didn't like what was on downstairs TV. We would consider staying here again but we always like to travel to different places for our family vacation.

2025 Summer

We enjoyed your home very much. We set up a net in the backyard to play badminton. We worked on crafts and made our meals most days. The only thing we were a little disappointed in was the distance to the lake. I couldn’t determine how far you were from the lake by your Vrbo post. I had thought we could walk. Other than that, all of us enjoyed the cute nautical theme of your home. Well done.

We stayed here with 5 adults and 4 kids aged from 9-16. The little welcome bag was a nice touch. We had plenty of room and never felt crowded. House was well stocked. Charcoal grill on pack patio was very nice. A little road noice but not bad at all. Beds were comfortable. Front porch was our gathering place for morning coffee before kids were up. We enjoyed watching the geese. Believe it or not they used the crosswalks when crossing over street to marina. No complaints from any of us. If we come back to area would definitely stay here again. Great and fast communication from owners.

Fantastic hosts, nice space, ok neighborhood

Check in and check out was seamless. The home was lovely. A short walk to the downtown area. We visited a different beach with family staying in Harbert & Union Pier, MI so I can't speak to how the beach access was. But the house was well equipped with towels, chairs, floaties and a beach cart. There was plenty of space for our family and the outside patio and yard with fire pit was lovely in the evenings. Our hosts even left a very sweet note and a great welcome kit with treats that the kids really appreciated. The only issues we had were very strong transitions going from tile to wood floor in kitchen and bathrooms which we worried would be a trip hazard for my mid 70's mom. She was glad to have the master bed downstairs since the stairway was twisty and narrow as is fitting for such a neat, old house. We felt fine walking in the area during the day but would hesitate to walk at night. Several nearby buildings in disrepair.

We are so happy you and your family enjoyed your stay! I'm sorry if Mom had a hard time. Maybe we can replace the red tape on the small step with reflective tape so it will be easier to see with the night lights. We love being able to accommodate multiple generations and helping you all make lasting memories! Next time you visit the area you will be able to see lots of changes and progress. There are several places being torn down and new ones going up, new luxury condos, new restaurants, and the new train service to Chicago! Lots of exciting improvements coming to Michigan City!

The house was well-maintained and clean. All the linens , bed covers, and even toiletries were supplied. The backyard, grill and fireplace were supplied, including wood for the fireplace. The grill was almost brand new. Yeah, the outside of the house was clean no cobwebs no spiderwebs all in all was a very enjoyable stay. However, it was on a busy street. It was stated that there was room for three cars to park in the driveway. There really is only room for two cars to park in the driveway only blocks away from the Michigan city mall. The beach was no more than a 20 minute walk or a five minute drive very convenient . The area in itself, however was a little rundown not necessarily the best area to walk around at night. 13 members in our group including eight adults and five children ages 10 to 18

The house was perfect for 6 adults and 5 teenagers. The kids used the upstairs game room a lot. It was close to the beach and outlet stores. House was very clean. Nice yard to play corn hole and ladder ball.The hosts were very great to work with. I loved the house decor.
